When I want to do a taste test I turn on my HA, dry it's the better for flavor!
With the TonG you can push a bit more the taste experience...and you can connect your HA easily to a WT!
what is WT? it's not in the glossary...

Salutations All_Day_J,

I guess I'm overwhelmed...

Still Overwhelmed? It's not just "pages of info", try pictures instead if you prefer!

Here are some more by the way:

...Teflon ss and aluminum...

It may not have seemed obvious on the photographs i previously refered to but i guess it should help to know that power to the heater element actually passes through a series-connected over-heat protector... This information was treated textually and graphically before, but i understand far too well how difficult these details prove being hard to find sometimes. Not to mention the board's own software modifications killed many linked references to other threads a couple years ago... The same goes true about "gassing off" i presume.

Simply consider the HerbalAire's v2.1 over-heat protection was designed to cut the supply of electric power to its physically-attached (and thermally-coupled) 50 Watts heater assembly above a safety-margin temperature. I figure this sort of heat-sensitive fuse-shaped device would become an "open-circuit" after an over-heat event, essentially, even before any of the mentioned materials become a potential source of concern. Well, at least that's what the v2.1 implementation appeared to indicate when i peeked into it.

Now down below that's a photograph of my v2.1:

Which is a perfect illustration of the broken links it turns out...

26.gif

So please take note we yet have to see equivalent information relatively to the newer versions, though i'd expect future heat-exchanger assemblies will just continue to include an overriding time-tested protective fuse. Which is designed to specifically address "gassing off" issues to begin with...

That is one part of the design which feels most solid: synthetics are made safe by making sure power to the heater is interrupted physically in case of trouble, no software glitch can possibly cause those materials to exceed their respective safe working temperature ranges. As a matter of fact, if it's a fuse i'd suppose it needs to be replaced at the factory by a technician once it has tripped as a result of excessive temperature.

:2c:

In my opinion most people naturally perfer glass over teflon simply because it renders reclaims more convenient and look doesn't change through time. Also, i recall enjoying the view as well...

This is exactly what I wanted...simple, quick, not a lot of glass breakables, and efficient. A nice pea sized or slightly bigger chunk gave lots of draws. started at 340 moved up to 350 then 365 to finish it off. Love direct with the straw. Draws were warm and tasty, little dry as would be expected. Whips were cool and no taste, also expected. I did switch to the whip after several direct draws, so a lot of the taste had probably vaped off already. I've got silicon tubing and arizer MPs and MFLB stems on order like the mods shown on page 27. Not sure if I'm going to drill the original MP out or not. Overall, I love it.

Has anyone else had (or read a post about) trouble with the mouthpiece ejecting itself from the unit when heated? If so, please share how it was resolved?

I've had my H2.2 for about a week and am very happy with it except for this mouthpiece thing. It's getting worse with use. Now, I have to hold it in place with my hands EVERY time I hit on it. The screen in the mouthpiece is not flat and evenly seated anymore. Guess that's due to teflon's expansion/contraction?

I like the H2.2 enough to use it while holding it together but instructions say that it should be "creating a tight seal." Am baffled.

Salutations Ajadbe,

Although i can hardly say i follow this thread anymore that's something brand new to me.

That sure sounds like a reasonable assertion to make, yes.

...but instructions say that it should be "creating a tight seal."

Well, all i know is that it does become tight when hot in a v2.1, but i never really was an enthousiast user of the main white HA teflon mouthpiece/TonG component to begin with. In any case i thought the crucible was supposed to remain attached, which should be a lesser issue in whip mode i suppose...

Perhaps a photograph (with ExIF GPS tag removed) might help others to provide a better answer.

"... Perhaps a photograph (with ExIF GPS tag removed) might help others to provide a better answer."

Thank you for trying to help. :) The crucible's screen is permanently attached, stays in the unit and looks good as new. Only the mouthpiece/extension with its own screen pops out.

It looks exactly like the mouthpiece and extension pictured in post #1830 (on the brochure beside the toothpicks) except at an angle when hot and ready to fall off unless held in place. My extension has begun to curve slightly, too.

I have not heard of this and I don't recall it being mentioned in this thread (tho my recaller is somewhat broken). Have you been heating up and cooling down with the MP in place? That seems to help with the mating of the 2 pieces. I tend to use the TONG these days which has a longer connection to the base, but when I have used the regular MP I have never had it pop off on it's own. It does have a tendency to disconnect relatively easily with any horizontal pressure. The image in post #1789 (page 72) shows my 2 MPs side by side. I know the shadow interferes a bit with the pic, but does your MP look the same?
My best suggestion (other than the heat up cool down rec above) is contact HA and see if they have any ideas. They may (at least) give you a break on a TONG if you need it because the regular MP is failing for you. That is what they SHOULD do, anyway, and my experience with them has been a good one so I think it is worth a shot.

Thank you. :) Yes, I've been heating up with the mouthpiece in place. I can't cool it down with the MP in place because it pops off when heated. My MP looks exactly like the the top one in your picture.

Guess I'll call HA next week unless I can reach someone there today. Looks like the TONG is the MP below the standard one in your picture.

My husband just watched it heat up, looked at movement, and said the taper at the bottom of the MP is causing/contributing to it coming out. The TONG appears not to have that taper.

HA's site says the adapter for glass (TONG) is not for use with the crucible. Are you using yours with the crucible?

Well, yes, kind of. ;) If you move further down that same page to post #1799 you will see a better explanation of what I am doing. Basically I am using a crucible but I have trimmed it to fit with the TONG. It decreased the volume I can put in the crucible slightly, but not enough to matter.

Thank you very much, @cybrguy. My husband can cut the crucible down. I agree with you about preferring to use one.

Does the TONG MP come with a screen inside like the standard MP and do extensions fit in it for use in a direct draw set-up? Also, does the manufacturer expect users to change the screen in MPs ourselves or do they normally stay in good condition? Sorry about all the questions...

As mentioned above, the screen in my MP is no longer seated nice and flat as it was a week ago. I'm thinking I should probably buy more screens (to drop one on top of herb nuggets if nothing else) when I order the TONG after calling them to try for a price break on it, if not a free one. Since all standard MPs have the same tapered shape, am surprised others haven't reported the issue.

Hi guys I'm considering buying the elite but had a couple of questions. Does it still need a pump? Does it stand up against the Herbalizer? How is the vapor? Thanks.

Ajadbe I just got my 2.2 and have no issues at all with the standard mp. I've done direct, whips, bags all with out issue.

Thedundertaker the elite still uses a pump. Its hard to compare a $130 herbalaire with a $700 herbalizer.

Thanks for the input. I just got mine a week ago last Friday and (confirmed by my post in this thread the next day) wasn't having problems with the MP at first, either. Hope yours continues to function without issues, as other users' units seem to. :)

No worries about the questions. That's why we are all here. :)

Yes, the TONG has a screen just like the regular mouthpiece. Mine has occasionally popped out or gone askew in both of my MPs, and I have generally straightened them with a poker of some kind. I think a poker came with the HA. Because I always put a screen in the top of the crucible to hold in the load the screen in the MP is less important for me, but it still helps to keep debris from getting in whatever water device I have attached. They can be popped out and cleaned or replaced. I think close to 1/2". The TONG has a little more room in the chamber inside and some, I think @RUDE BOY and @MG23 at least, like to pack the TONG itself by putting a smaller screen (3/8" I think) further back in the TONG and packing herb into it directly. It makes for a smaller load, of course, but reduces any conduction so it is easier to stop without wasting herb. That discussion is also in this thread. I tried it and found it didn't allow enough herb for me, but we are all different. There is also a different MP for the Elite HA that apparently has a larger compartment that can be filled but may have other drawbacks. See the thread.

The "mini crucibles" and the TONG have been the best solution for me with the HA and how I usually roll. I have a couple glass pieces I invert the HA into and a couple I use an elbow and silicone tubing with. Variety is the spice of life. I'm still pretty new at this but I jumped in with both feet... :)

Yes, the hole in the top is the same and also accommodates the whip or whatever. That being said, some have drilled it out some to stick a glass piece in there instead. Also in the thread. :)

Thank you @cybrguy ; that's good news about the extensions. I read the posts about drilling to use glass but reclaiming isn't important to me at this time. Is there some other advantage to using glass as part of a direct-draw set-up?

Just that some love a glass path and want to get the teflon or silicone out of the path. Many vapers are glass purists. As this is medicine for many people the desire for purity is understandable. Have a look at a thread about a new vape, any new vape, and you will get a feel of the due diligence folks do in this regard. It is good for all of us no matter how or why we consume herb and it's components.
