Recent Acquisitions - Post Your New Pieces Here

We're here to fuck shit up.
From what I've been told (and I have no 1st hand experience here, just second hand "knowledge") everything MS makes is by hand, and they kill quite a few pieces in their QC dpt. I think maybe @PhotoRider can answer this, I know he has some of these in his personal collection and IIRC he knows the owner of MS or a friend of a friend does or something?

Anyway, want to talk about ridiculous markup for zero work?

Mike Shelbo. He got famos for this (admittedly awesome) goblin rigs.

$1400 sticker on that BTW... But thats not what Im talking about here.

He makes these fucking pendants (necklace) that he calls "Teleporter Keys":

Yeah, its ~$3.50 worth of STAMPED GLASS. The only "hand formed" part is the loop for the chain at the top.

What do these retail for you ask?

$300.00

And people line up to buy these things at midnight believe it or not. All because of his name, hype, and artificially inflated demand.

If it is true that MS pieces are all hand made then I may have to change my tune slightly. Those percs made by hand would be quite difficult and time consuming. The symmetry of these pieces is also impressive.

I want a Shelbo Goblin. They are beautiful and the amount of work put into them is apparent. Those Teleporters Keys and the prices they fetch make me shake my head.

Shelbo is local and I can probably get some rare stuff at a slight discount if you want to HMU about it when you're ready. In fact the lemon drop piece I posted is owned by someone I know. He didn't pay the $1400 sticker price. It was high 3 digits.

Exactly...from your description of the pendant, very little work goes into it. However, I do understand that his other stuff warrants the price since there is time and effort in those. 3 bills for a stamped piece of glass that he adds a loop to definitely ain't worth 3 bills.

Agreed. I would rather spend those 3 bills on say a doughboy double recycler :D I could wear this around my neck right? haha

I see $2k in the worked one maybe? Sandblasting doesn't impress me in the slightest. It's all about a good stencil. It hasn't been stated, but I can not believe that the cuts in those percs are made by hand. No way. I need visual proof to believe that, even a little bit. Besides the worked version (and it is beautifully worked), where is the artist's hand involved? If nearly everything is produced by machinery, is it art? I'm not saying these are pumped out by robotics, but a hand made perc over some type of perc that is made by programming a machine to do the work is where art ends and production begins.

I guess I'm just lucky.

heady glass or 'worked' glass literally doesn't appeal to me.
I prefer clear, scientific style glass with few embellishments and relatively smooth or straight angles. I love being able to see the percolator and bubbling action. I love keeping my rigs clean (bathed a few times a month) and looking at crystal clear milkshots as bubbles burst and water swirls around.

simplicity is elegance to my eye.
and to each their own, but I guess it makes me lucky because scientific glass tends to be significantly less expensive than heady glass. hooray for my bank account... no matter how elaborate or colorful or unique it is, I just don't like the way that heady glass presents itself. I'm too afraid of breaking something so artistic, I couldn't enjoy it.

you know it's just getting all dirty on the inside and you can't even see the function.
you want to clean a heady piece because it's a work of art, but you'll always lose reclaim in nooks and crannies.

I am specifically talking about the clear Motherships that go for $2k+. Most of my collection is clear glass, but I am drawn to all types of glass whether scientific or worked. I do prefer to see the action within my pieces as well.

I verrrry much prefer scientific glass as well. However if a heady piece maintains some clean lines with minimal craziness, I can definitely appreciate and even enjoy it (though I doubt I'd ever use it, haha).

Guys, I dont know the owners of MS, even through I have met them.

Also I doubt its "all" hand made. The seed of life is laser etched as is the mothership wording.

Lathes are used to.

IDK, but the latest eggs I have seen are well terrible compared to the older ones. The shape is stretched in height. The shape of the eggs top is ugly.

Also the 4 I saw were each very different. In the past they were very close to each other.

My guess is Quave did the originals, but since that has changed so has the product I.e. other artists are doing them and not as well.

$2400 now really? The ones I saw were still $1900. Thinks shop is just selling on the highest bidder
