Just installed sims 3 and every expansion pack + extras. Its fuckin huge. I like throwing huge parties then building my house into a prison and capturing everyone. Only the strongest will survive...

Is there really any other way to play lol. Thats pretty much all I do on that game.

I recently dug up my 64 out of the closet and have been playing Gauntlet Legends for the past couple days..

So after an update my 60gb (ver.1) ps3 has turned into a ps2.
It still plays dvds, cds, and ps2 games but no ps3/blu-rays. Never had an issue before, the only place that repairs them said I need a new optical drive for $89 +tax. I've read a lot of things about how it's more the laser lens, but it seems the drive is working fine and the software update somehow locked it out of playing hi-rez disks. I would just replace it with a cheap blu-ray player and use the 360 but all I want to play these days is motorstorm and that's ps3 only. Fuck you sony, I'm not going to buy a ps4 either because no motorstorm is even on the horizon, the creators went a "different direction" for now.
Anybody familiar with this issue?

Have you tried contacting Sony?

I had a TV die about 6 months out of warranty and they still fixed it for free.
If your ps3 is malfunctioning due to an update, at the very least they should be able to give you some advice on how to try to fix it yourself.

Have you tried resetting it back to factory defaults then reinstalling the firmware?

I've read online (pretty common issue even with some slim models) that sony won't acknowledge this issue as being related to the updates, it's a hardware thing to them. The unacknowledged part is there has been a voltage change in the firmware, that has something to do with the newer drives having two laser lenses (instead of just one for both hi-rez and regular duties in the older ones, even some of the early slim models).

Also from what I've read online in ps3 forums, resetting to factory defaults does not reset the firmware. I was advised to see if there has been any other subsequent updates, and there are not (it's up to date). Others have been frustrated by sony's response to this issue even with the newer slim models, so I can't see them caring about my problems. It's been out of warranty for at least seven years, I think after that time period they don't even have to support it under warranty or not. I may give it a try anyways, but for advice they just reportedly direct you to their official user forums which I have been reading along with others.

I was wondering about replacing the lens only since the drive spins and reads the lower rez disks, and there are replacement lenses available for my model on ebay. But it's more than I want to tackle myself (it's a lot of work just to get to the optical drive in my model), and the place that I called will only replace the entire drive. From what I have read they have to put my old cd circuit board in the new drive to get it to work with my machine. For $90 I could get a used slim in gwo off craig's list, but I would lose ps2 compatibility.

Edit: the place I called does seem pretty sure that the new drive will solve this issue, so now I'm wondering if the higher-voltage(speed?) drive/lens will add to the risk of overheating/failure, which is an issue I've never had but seems to be another big problem with this model over time. I've read about mitigation measures being put in place to prevent this kind of failure, I'm thinking that I need to call these guys back and ask to talk to a service guy this time. Or get a used slim and use my phat as a ps2 lol.

I have one. Getting vaked and playing Elite: Dangerous is about one of the coolest damn things ever. Developing some shiz on it is going to be so much fun.

I know an old navy guy who has it for his gaming laptop. He loves it.
When the games are optimized right, it's perfect. But when they aren't, the extra 15hz refresh rate causes too much FPS drop. The only other complaint was specific to first-person-shooter games. Stuff like strafing can makes him really nauseous.

Been playing Path Of Exile again since it was recently update with a free expansion.

It is a fun game, its free to play and the gameplay is like diablo 2, and it has zero pay to win.

Haha! Yes!
Morrowind was my first as well, and I have been an avid fan since then. Love the lore, the music, the world, the atmpsphere.. :luv: a true fantasy series!
I hope the next game is in Elswyr, or possibly a re-visit to some of Cyrodiil which was a beautiful province.

I just finished the South Park game a few days ago - as a fan of the show it was awesome :D

The RPG elements are pretty light, but it was a fun game. I got far more enjoyment than I should admit hurling shit nuggets at enemies

Cyrodiil is like my elder scrolls hometown - I started with oblivion :) (never played morrowind - I may have to download it at some point - does it still hold up or would it be a disappointing to play now?)
Been playing a whole bunch of skyrim recently - I finished up most of the main quest lines a few years ago (basically enough to get me the platinum trophy) and put it away, then a month or 2 ago a mate bought it and inspired me to pick it up again.

Used console mods on the pc version to modify my ps3 save - so I've got a Mage with all spells etc from the get go :) playing through the DLCs now (they were released on the ps3 after I stopped playing)

Skyrim and Oblivion are great games but I spent the most time on morrowind. To go back to morrowind now would be a bit difficult to play. The content is there, but it has been improved upon so much that it is hard to play after experiencing Skyrim.. Great game in it's own right though. Wait for Skywind (Morrowind remake using Skyrim engine for PC :) ) http://tesrenewal.com/skywind-faq
It's going to be great.
