Recommend it is a hard one as it is expensive, if money is no issue then a definite yes......also if you are going to be a longtime LB user than I think it will pay for itself by keeping batteries going as long as possible. It is not needed for the launch box but it does insure optimal flights each time. Yes it really makes a difference, especially after your batteries are a few months old, the c9000 brings em back to life. It met and exceeded my expectations, it has everything you could ever want in a charger. It is a fantastic upgrade over the one that came with the LB

Do you really need to recondition LSD batteries such as the Eneloops ?

From everything I have read apparently so. I can see a huge difference in my batts after being reconditioned in the c9000. I was about to throw my original MFLB batts away they were so weak(Eneloops @ 2000mAh I believe). They now hit like new again and last alot longer. The c9000 is definitely the best investment I have made to keep my MFLB running optimally.

Hmmm...I've heard that LSD's don't need to be reconditioned and that a normal slow charge is best. Interesting. Just wanted to get another opinion. Thanks.

You should keep in mind that there are cheaper chargers with the same "make my batteries last longer" functionality that the c9000 has.

True but they all have some short coming compared to the c9000. Others don't have the sophisticated multi parameter full charge detection methods, can't charge all slots at 2000 mA, can't charge just a single battery at a time.
The display of the c9000 is more than three times larger than its closest competition and shows a wealth of information that is easy to read, four independent temperature sensors using temperature rise detection algorithms in addition to the usual peak temperature detection etc.

There are some changes they should make to improve it though. The backlight of the LCD is bright as fuck and cannot be dimmed or turned off once a battery is inserted, screen is hard to read unless you look straight at it, cycle mode should discharge first, wire stand is a P.O.S. and some functions need a lot of button presses to program.

Four of my old batteries are the Eneloops that I originally received with the Launch Box. I was going to throw them out, but was able to bring them back to life with the C9000. They actually average around 1900 MAH now, and that's pretty darn good for batteries that have been used since February. At least I think so. :)

I still prefer using my Powerex batteries, though.

I had some stock batteries that I've had for almost a year which I had stopped using completely because they just didn't get the box hot enough. They are now reading around 1900 and actually working much better than before so I do think there is something to the break in cycle IMHO.

I'm really liking the Powerex's though still getting a little over 2500 on the 2700 rated ones. Even one that has now gone through 2 break in cycles still reads in the 2500 range. Oddly I saw it reading over 3000 during it's break in cycle but alas....that didn't stick.

The Powerex 2700's were EASY to peel with no glue to clean off either but of course they're not low self discharge so I'm glad to have some of each.

Wow, I leave for a few days and you guys post 8 pages.

Zoo - If you simply remove the battery whenever not in use you eliminate any danger.

Portables are not known for their ease of use, and I can see how someone may take a little longer to get the hang of it, but the reward is worth the time spent learning.

"this design flaw" = what exactly? Is there actually any evidence any launch box has ever caused a dangerous situation? I am very puzzled. The photo of the "combusted" material was discredited above; the material was not combusted, and was not ground in accordance with the instructions. I fail to see in what way the LB is more dangerous than any other vaporizer. In fact, I would claim its much, much safer. A device like a Vapor Bros becomes extremely hot; touching the element is definitely dangerous. The batteries which power a LB will die rapidly before any dangerous temperatures are reached. An Iolite remains extremly hot after use (too hot to put back in a users pocket). Not to mention the flamable nature of butane and the bottle you have to carry around, which is covered in warnings. If a user has trouble carrying a battery in their pocket safely, isn't that more an issue to take up with the battery company than the LB manufactureer?

It seems like you are just enjoying stirring up trouble, zoo. Do you actually own an LB? Have you read the instructions? Do you have trouble getting yours to work properly, after reading the instructions? Have you sent it in for service? If you have answered "no" to any of these, please reconsider posting here as this is a thread for owners of the LB to post their experiences or for potential customers to ask legitimate questions.

Howdy everyone,

Just wanted to say Hi to the group. I am a noob, only had my LB for two days but I love it. Thanks for the info on grinding the goodies up better. My first few flights were all burnt and yucky because I was trying to get the rest of the stuff to burn LOL Now with the grind right it is smooth sailing.

Hey guys, registered to post a message here.

So the later model of MFLB has a spring (right?) so you have to keep in contact with the battery. My question is, my battery makes a clicking noise when it makes contact (never noticed that before) and I don't know if its just me, or I feel like i'm pushing in slightly harder than the first time i used it.

Is this normal?

I have older version w/o battery pushback ring, and mine makes a slight metal-on-metal click or tap when the tip of the battery first contacts the wire. If you see no obstructions I'd say you are good to go.

Exactly what I thought. A little bit of controversy creates a lot of conversation real fast. At this rate, this little Box thread will need some indexing soon. Some sort of short page by page topical summary so that you could click through to find answers to questions. A vaporizer wikipedia was setup somewhere -- perhaps that could be used?

Questions:

1. How do I get the herb finer other than buying a better metal grinder or coffee grinder? I have read something about taking a few hits to dry the herb out and crumble it with your fingers, will that work?
2. There is a rubber ring that separates the wooden part of the box and the mesh, what is it for?
3. Should I wait 3-5 seconds before drawing or should I start immediately? I have heard both.

1. Yes.
2: I don't know.
3. Do what works best for you!

Perhaps it would be helpful to step back a bit. It is hard to know, really, what ever is actually going on, in any situation. It seems to be some sort of generic truth that at best we can only make careful guesses as to what experiences that any one of us has had or is having, or what sort of choices and motivations might have come out of that. The internet, and most forms of communication on it, seem only to highlight this issue -- regardless of any relation to any particular subject or product.

There have been times in the past where someone has been seeming to be acting only in a way to "make trouble", when on deeper review, some unexpected benefit is found. One of the best things about this forum is that there seems to be a good general consensus on maintaining respectful and helpful communications, regardless of the topic at hand. This consensus is the context which allows us to come to potentially learn something new and interesting.

For this reason, it is important to have clarity about how to distinguish good motivations poorly expressed from someone who is merely troll like in their behavior. For example, there is nothing wrong with anyone declaring simply "I like it" or "I don't like it" -- that is an opinion, a personal feeling, and therefore ultimately requiring of no inherent justification. The trouble comes only when someone, or people in general, attempt to coerce others with different opinions by attempting to requiring them have the same opinions as themselves. Any such attempt to "justify" an opinion as being "the only correct one" is bound to be perceived by others as coercive.

There are many different possible scenarios as to how this can play, each with innumerable variations. In one sense, it can seem that a new member may be attempting to attract attention by declaring an opinion explicitly contrary to the majority. With the appearance of a strong majority opinion, it is inevitable that someone will eventually perceive this uniformity as being a sort of "opportunity". This impression does become somewhat strengthened by what appears to be an attempt to garnish further attention by making suggestions intending to provoke one or more kinds of triggerable fear (ie, issues of safety). If this is so, then arguing on the basis of fact is, unfortunately, going to be of little relevance in a situation which is much more emotionally based in truth.

However, it must be recognized that even in this case, the attempt to convince the dissenting party to adopt the consensus opinion has itself about the same moral implications as to what appears to be an attempt by that minority to convince the majority that their opinion is somehow "wrong" or "ignorant", and should be changed due to reason "X". Both processes of force are best avoided altogether, regardless of stated opinion, else the appellation of "troll" and/or "bully" does become deserved, and obviously so.

So back to basics: Anyone is allowed to state any opinion (once). No one is reasonably going to be able to convince anyone else to adopt any particular opinion, and it is best not to try (else they become troll!). Anyone may state any (on topic) question. Any others who feel so motivated and so inclined may answer any question, doing so to the best of their ability and knowledge; always striving to present information in a manner that is as entirely complete, accurate, and without judgment as possible. People are also welcome and encouraged to tell their stories, of their experiences and their journeys, again preferably without moralizing, prejudice, or judgment. The intent is to be one of sharing, encouragement, and enlightenment -- for life is altogether too short and precious for anyone to waste any moment of it on the triviality of meaningless conflict.

If it happens that the stories/experiences that someone tells is of dissatisfaction with the Launch Box, there are (and can be) only/exactly three causes: 1) misplaced expectations, 2) incomplete technique, or 3) a faulty unit. Of these, only the last is curable by Magic-Flight manufacturing directly. Of the others, we can only suggest changed technique or altered expectations, but cannot enforce them -- for such action is purely and ultimately in the hands of the Box Owner (this is the nature of freedom). Such suggestions that anyone may make as to reasonable usage technique or expectations of outcome are only opinions -- and must be treated as such. Regardless of how strong those opinions may be, such strength is never in itself a justification to try to convince or force others to adopt them, regardless of how stated.

As such, in the current situation, an opinion has been stated. Some reply suggestions have been made, which may or may not have been perceived as helpful. Beyond that, there is not really much more that can be done. Until further help is asked for, and asked with an explicitly expressed and demonstrated intent of actually receiving and integrating such assistance as may be provided, it is definitely best to leave be.

Ah -- great place for it! Thanks! Look at something too long and you no longer see it for what it is.

Does anyone have some time to put together some sort of summary of this thread by page? I was thinking of some sort bullet list where each entry of the form is "Talked about topic T on page X, Y, Z...". It would be helpful to refer new readers to the appropriate wikipedia page as a faster/easier way to get basic questions answered.

Well, that has to be the most tasteless thing I've heard at FC, and I've been here a loooong time.

Whatever noble intentions zoo had in bringing his perceived shortcomings of the LB to light, those noble intentions have now just flew out the window.

Tell ya what zoo. Why don't ya head on over to the PD and Zap threads. If you play your cards right, you'll find enough food there to keep ya full for awhile.

Why, because I mentioned pussy hairs and grandmas in the same sentence? Lighten up tiger. And get a life!

Agreed! As someone about to buy the MFLB I obviously want to buy the most suitable batteries and chargers to optimise the purchase. However you don't want to annoy everyone by asking the same question for the 1000th time, but you also aren't particularly thrilled about having to read through 200 pages to find some answers.

Some indexing, especially regarding the batteries/chargers and usage technique tips, would be much appreciated if it's possible.

Hey, first post here, i just bought one of these magic boxes & should receive it tomorrow, i was wondering if i can use a normal AA battery or does it have to be rechargable?

Im looking to use it straight away this weekend as im going away camping & wont have time to charge batteries... also how long do the batteries takes to charge/recharge?

Thanks in advance for any help

I used to use a vaporgenie but IMO it tastes like crap, its hard to get an even toke & if i do get a toke its usually too smoky & makes me cough up a lung, i read good reviews of the magic box so decided to go for it over the vapir portable, seemes like a consistent vape, not like the VG where its hard to judge whats going on in that bowl...

peace

Welcome to FC, Chronic!

The batteries must be rechargeable.... but here's the good news.... they take 15 minutes to charge, so you should definitely have enough time.

Thanks dude thats excellent, i know its probably been asked loads of times, but how long do the batteries last for? Say your taking a couple tokes every half an hour...

Also what kinda batteries does it use, so i can buy some spare ones....

Im gonna read the full FAQ on the magic box website later to get the full run down before it arrives, can't wait to test it out!

The batteries last me 2-3 bowls, so 2 batts will last me all day.

From what I've read, it uses Eneloops, but there are members here that know a lot more about the batteries than I do, so I'll leave that question for them.

I just read the FAQ on the official website & it says the batteries take 8 hours to charge! :o

I'm only gonna be using it once or twice a week for a few hours so no biggie, ill probably eventually end up buying a good charger/battery set for holidays etc...recommendations welcome!

Yikes! Great thread! The LB is my second vape. The first was a Vapor Cannon and a royal pain IMO. I sold it on ebay. I was about to pull the pin on a iolite until I found the LB. WOW I'm very happy. This is the first herb device I've been excited about since I discovered brass lamp parts in 1968.

The only issue I have is batteries. I've charged and tried (peeled) 6 Energizer NiMH and they don't work! Ideas? I've read through 70 pages so far and have not found a list of preferred batteries. I'd like to find a brand locally, or should I just try Powerex? They seem to be mentioned often.
Maybe just quit being so frugal and buy them from blissville? (retired disabled and needing to save $ whenever possible)

Thanks!
