I saw him a few years ago, Kali baby signed my hat. Show was pretty dope. Cool to see his old music around here...

Also why do I love space/trap beats so much?

i still love it and the old stuff, but cant say that i have been paying as close attention as i should be. lately its been Doom, EL-P, and random old stuff. there is probably newer stuff that i am unaware of. i have focused a lot of my recent music listening to stuff like flying lotus and com truise. downtempo fire. if i had the time i would make so much fucking noise... lol

heres one from a couple of years ago that i still bug out to...
Love a bit of EL-P, the Company Flow - Funcrusherplus album was where I first heard him, back in the 90s and the Blackstar album and the Pharcyde - Labcabincalifornia are ones that get played a lot round here!

Reminded me, I havent listened to this album in awhile. BRB listening to blackstar and mos def

Like the underground/indie version of blackstar LOL, maybe its because of the name IDK why I always think this.

I know that Mos Def has changed his name recently, to Yasiin Bey and been making some different tracks and mixtapes.

I do hope they come out with a new album, they are an awesome duo, their vocal tones compliment one another very well indeed.

Check this link for a couple of IG vids of the Dave Chapelle show where they performed recently together...

RTJ all day!!

I saw these guys last year. The BEST show I've ever seen. It was amazing. I had only listened to El-P's brilliant Cancer 4 Cure prior but I've since purchased RTJ and I'm eagerly looking forward to RTJ2.

I am a huge fan of what might be called "Socially conscious" hip-hop. I can never get enough. All too often, though, I find that there are themes of misogyny that I just can't tolerate. Any recommendations for bands/artists I should listen to?

I think Lupe Fiasco might be something you are interested in (if you're unfamiliar with him, some songs are very layered and may take several times to 'get', the ones below are straightforward)

Common, Mos Def (aka Yasiin Bey), Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, B.o.B (the early mixtapes are the best imo), to name a few. There are some talented females also, but not "conscious", Snow tha Product (there is a track I posted on the first page) being one I can vouch for.

Some the best live hip hop performances I have seen : Tech N9ne, LA Coka Nostra, and Kottonmouth Kings. Big Boi was the absolute worst. Dead Prez and Wu tang are also pretty shitty live.

RIP Pakelika. Dude loved his vapes. Asthma is no joke :(

Nice thread! Heres a bit of what I've been listening to lately. My favourite new artist, hopefully I can put some heads on to this guy if they haven't heard of him.

What popped up on my FB feed today.

@2clicker thought you might like it. SBing and hiphop

@vape4doc I think you got some great recommendations above. I would add Immortal Technique (revolution vol 1 and vol 2, martyr) to that list.

Also, Onebelo - S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. album is a masterpiece, great socially consicious album.

This is dedicated to the third George, aiyyo I miss him in the worst way
The bullet killed him on his nineteenth birthday
Now what a sad way to lose your life
At that time he had a newborn daughter and a future wife
I never got a chance to say goodbye

I heard the news from a county jail cell facin twenty-five
Can't explain how I feel inside
Can't explain the actions of the trigger guy, but still I try
Did I cry? Man I probably ran a river dry

@Terpenoid Really digging Spit Gemz. Thanks!

I hate Texas
Rza 1998 album Rza as Bobby Digital in stereo. The one with the white cover.

Beats are gritty, then there's the razor sharp lyrics. Entire albumb is ill.

Hip hop is more about lyrics, where rap is more about the basslines and good vibes. Yet some rappers have some slick punchlines too. IMHO. Maybe someone else can explain the differences between the two styles.
