Concentrates for Noobs - Q&A

So heres my somewhat successful attempt at a low temp dab of some very nice lemon skunk shatter I just got, while using a marble to "carb" the hit. See what you think (recorded in 1080 for detail):

By far the best tasting dab I've done on this rig yet!
So I saw a marble. This came In mind. I have a dome and ti nail. Took a few trys but it worked. At first I had almost no smoke than I drop the marble on It and it starts to cloud.

Shit yeah! A marble works well. It works best when you can let a little bit of air in while carbing. You don't want to block it off completely. This is why you see me raising it a bit in the video. Of course depending on the size of the nail/dome this may not be necessary.

My dome is just enough of an imperfect circle to allow air flow. I also found out my thumb works surprisingly well. I put the dab on the not hot enough nail than dropped my marble on the floor. Quick stupid thinking had me use my thumb. I think im lucky my nail was far enough away, I see that could have ended badly.

Actually the thumb trick is old skool and works well. Reason why I dislike it is that your thumb gets all fucking sticky. As for your finger being too close to the nail, you still need to get pretty close to burn yourself from radiant heat, especially if youre drawing cool air in at the same time by hitting the rig.

In either case, at a distance like that you would feel enough pain to move your hand but not enough to cause serious injury IMO. Hell, before I got my thermal gun, I would hold my hand over the nail @ ~.25" to see if it was ready to dab. If its not hot enough for you to move your hand, its good to go... usually.

edit: LOL we have the same torch. BBB?

Any suggestions on vac purging qwet? I'm actually using KX but it's basically the same. Both ethanol so I'd imagine they are. Thanks

Well idk if the dish I used was too small to fully purge or something but I would hear it sizzle on my nail. I threw it in my vac chamber for 10hrs room temp and I tried again no sizzle. I think in some cases it may be nessicery at least in my case lol but thanks @DieHard. Any new runs or info from u?

Are you using an enail? I find sizzle has more to do with load size and nail temp rather than quality of the oil. Side note: I only buy fully purged and lab tested BHO and I'm not saying impurities cant cause this as well.

Edit: lol were not talking about BHO. Sorry I'm super pilted.

vacuum purge of qwet helps get rid of that last bit of moisture with the 95% eth ...especially in a humid summer sweat environment...

moisture often makes a sizzle. also responsible for the pull and snap shatter...

in my experience...

I think u hit the nail on the head @farscaper. I didn't have any alcohol taste but I'm in the northeast usa n it's been very humid. I was getting pull snap now it's just shatter and is less cloudy after a 10hr purge at room temp

As a matter of fact I did 2 runs this weekend with Capital n-tane. I ran 12g Sour PurpleDiesel and 12 g of Hubba. I got 3g even from the SPD and 2.8g from the Hubba. Interesting the difference in color. The Hubba is the more orange one.

Starting material is top quality bud. Keys to good yield are: Thoroughly dry the flowers. Break it up just a little more coarsely than you would use to roll a joint. Put the flowers in the tube and put in freezer. Put butane in freezer.(the butane will come out much slower making it easier to allow longer dwell time.) Wrap the tube and can in a towel to insulate and prevent water condensation from dripping into your goodies.

I took a step back from bho. I'm just not confident enough that all the tane is gone. I've been using the KX doing the qwet tek. If u can provide info on how u know all the tane is gone I may give it another shot because I do have some different/newer equipment but that doubt is always there

With a vac. When I run BHO I use alcohol to winterize. The alcohol has a higher boiling/evap temperature than butane does. The only way to really really know is to get it tested for residuals.

you should be able to spray through a tube or pour off a jar of butane into a small pool of alcohol if you are worried about the butane...

frankly I just wanna build a microwave distiller so I can annex all solvents from my game without having to go bubble or tumbled hash....

does that seem excessive? lmao

When running BHO most tend to NOT have the patience to ride out the length of time need to run clean BHO. Now, with that being said I've had strains that I finished in less that 6 hours and I've had strains that have taken 3 days in the vac. 80% percent of the Butane is out within the first 30 minutes. The remaining effort is all about deciphering which bubbles are tane versus terps vs air pockets.

Although I won't tell you everything I do but pay attention to yellow bubbles and viscosity. If it ran super viscous it will purge quickly as opposed to something like a heady kush which always runs well but takes at least 12 hours+ to purge.

Pay attention to my buddy @farscaper , his skills are getting honed in with all his practice.

On another note - I don't care what anyone tells you, the kind of butane you use MATTERS!

may I highly suggest a good led flashlight. a good wide lense on it helps. set it on top of your chamber lid shining right onto your concentrate.

makes it much easier too see the rainbow and decifer weather or not they are actives bubbles or solvent bubbles.

when using directly on slick sheets ptfe. some notes...
dont try to collect to early or it will wax... even a single flip to early will result in a mess string that ends up waxish.
Be patient for the whole patty to cool before trying to slide it over an edge to release it from the ptfe or it will stick and again... envite waxxing.
finally... I notice there is a ruff and a smooth side to the sheet... the ruff side tends to cause more residual sticking.

@mvapes much love brother! :D:tup:

Wait... I've got some Oilslick Slicksheet in my hand right now. Both sides of the sheet are identical?

the outside of the roll is slightly smoother.... you might notice the subtle parallel lines on the side that curves in or rather was facing the center of the roll...

most likely just a manufacturing thing... suble belt imprint...

I see it... but I have pretty decent eyes even for a contact wearer... have to ange the light right to catch it.

it only really makes a diffrence when running directly onto it...

as a storage liner you would never know the diffrence...

It's only for storage. And I've only had issues with very small amounts spreading out thinly and sticking to the sheet. The vast majority of it comes off fine.
