Portable/Desktop Vaporizer Ratings

Hey guys, I just had a thought.

What do you guys think about having a 1-10 rating poll at the beginning of every vaporizer's official thread? I think using a poll to get an average score for each vape would really be an easy way of summarizing which vapes are top of the line and which are poor buys. That way when members come to the forum to learn about a vaporizer they might purchase they have an overall score that can help them decide from one or another.

As of now, a member or passerby has to read through an entire thread to get an overall opinion on any vape, which can take a while.

Just a thought I had. Let me know if it sounds like a cool idea to you and maybe we can get the admin to try and make it happen!

This would work better if it had a description why it had the rating it had as well; and possibly links to reference posts, or content quoted directly with the additional information you may find pertinent to your decision when purchasing a vape- information normally found by reading the thread IME

The longer threads tend to be a good indication of a popular unit... not always, but it's where I'd start.

True, longer threads are a good indication of a popular unit but having members take a poll is a way of determining the best units through an average score.

I see your point, but I haven't tried all units to be able to vote across the board...

Maybe some of the more expensive units; sublimator/herbie for example will score lower than they should due to less members owning or trying them. This would need to be taken into account I guess.

I think if a unit gets an average score generated by at least 50 users it would be a well represented score. I do see your point though that 10 or 20 votes wouldn't well represent a unit. Maybe what you could do is say that the poll/score is immature until it reaches at least 50 votes and at that point it would be named a mature poll/score.

You bring up another obvious speed bump. Who's to say member/s won't give scores to vaporizers they haven't even tried and skew the score. The only way I think you can battle that would be to have a reminder at the top of the poll that suggests only members that have used the vaporizer please vote, and then hope that not too many people break that rule.

This would work better if it had a description why it had the rating it had as well; and possibly links to reference posts, or content quoted directly with the additional information you may find pertinent to your decision when purchasing a vape- information normally found by reading the thread IME

I see what you're saying. For instance if a vape is getting a low overall score due to reliability but not at all due to performance something should say that next to the score. Is that right? And then you're also saying have links to references in the actual thread talking about said reliability issues.

That would definitely be a cool added feature!

@TrueVaper I know you're new, so pls don't take this the wrong way, but back to back posts aren't allowed on the forum... you're expected to use the edit function to add to the previous post... I'm sure a mod'll come and merge them at some point so don't sweat it. Just for future ref

Nope. Don't like ratings. Too many variables to consider.

True, longer threads are a good indication of a popular unit .....

It could also be an indication of a problematic vaporizer.

Not for me.
Ratings are subjective.
Length of a thread means nothing either, some threads just elicit more chatter.

The system has potential weaknesses... like those that are fans of a particular vape, can get friends to vote it up for an ego boost.
Manufacturers could get friends to "up" their ratings.

I see no short-cut here.
Would be Vaporizer Owners will just have to read it all and do their homework, to glean a true idea
of what users think!

I am a "ratings" avoidant person. When I see them I ignore them..
.. and when companies, journals, websites that I frequent begin to use them I avoid them all together.
