previous condition paranoia.
You had trouble with a costly item, and went through more steps than desired to fix it.
...when the problem was not yours, and you should not have had to go through any steps!

Just like a person with food poisoning, you will be testing the waters and "on watch" for similar symptoms for a short time. It is Human nature.

Glad your Ion works.
I gave an Ion that was donated by an FC member to a patient and his spouse to use.
it is taking a beating with daily use, and I have checked on it every few weeks, and all that is ever wrong with it is that the top needs a good cleaning, as the couple is old and with very poor manual dexterity (cardholder due to advanced arthritic complications).

Try to not look for symptoms, and enjoy the hell out of this fog machine of a bag filler!

oh okay..

flashing green means that it is hotter than it's supposed to be...

what i do is turn the machine on.. (it flashes red like hen it's heating) then aftger about a minute i get paranoid that it's not working. so i turn it off, then turn it on, then it flahses grene. then i turn it off + on + unplug it .. for a few minutes plug it back in, then it heats up quickly and stays green,

maybe that's my paranoia, if it is defective, i know zephyr will fix it

the last one was defintly defective, i hope this one is not :-)

i am thinking of calling the girl that fixed it to thank her , and to tell her i received it. but i just want to try it out for a week first..

they were all so nice + polite..

well that didn't take long....

it's no longer pumping air..

I really just want my money back at this point..

why has this whole ordeal been this much of a nightmare? seriously

are zephyr ion's really that bad?

i just called and left a voice mail with the person that sent me the new zephyr from vancouver..

like why should i bother going thoruhg this trouble again.. i dont want ANOTHER BROKEN one

im sick of this honestly

i want my money back

i will get a volcano

i can use it like a whip i guess. but i spent a lot of money on this thing.. i could of bought a whip vaporizer that was not as expensive and clunky

the pump makes a noise, but does nothing.. maybe i should take it apart and clean it? i just got it so it should not be dirty already.

sorry to make so many posts

Remember they were nice and polite, and they will be VERY embarrassed this time.

The units I have used all kicked ass.

You can edit... and add to previous posts for a limited period of time.. ( you were within that safe period)
Remember they were nice and polite, and they will be VERY embarrassed this time.
They will be more uncomfortable with this situation than you are angry.
I am pretty sure they will go out of their way to make it right , and to re-compensate you for the troubles you have seen at their hands.
Give them a hint.
Tell them that:
"I was going to just ask for a refund, but the folks at FC dot com, the Vaporizer Review Forum told me, in the Zephyr Ion thread, that I should wait. They all thought that I should give Zephyr a chance to make this terrible ordeal right."
This tactic could get you some satisfaction besides just a new working vaporizer.

i called the girl that fixed the first unit that was defective.. she said that the tube comes off. told me to open the unit..

i can't get the bottom screws opened.. .. edit: she told me that she found she had to try several different screw drivers.. i tried all the star ones i had .. none of them worked..

i seriously just give up.. i am not sending this damn thing back.. just to get another damn broken one...

seriously i am done with zephyr..

like.. why go through another heap of trouble just to get another defective unit

im seriously not happy... and if i do have to go through the trouble and have to get another new unit..

i better get more than a bunch of bags (that i can't even use on this unit)

the heating thing seems to not be working well anymore either..

I bought this thing 2 months ago.. and i can't even use it...

what a WASTE OF MONEY + TIME

I REFUSE TO PAY FOR SHIPPING AGAIN

edit: i jsut called the girl.. she said she will talk to zephyr and see what they can do...
im just very fed up and frustrated :-(

I told her i am just done with it.. i don't want the unit at all anymore.. this has just beeen way too much of a nightmare for me.. i am a very busy person, i don't have tiem to go and find a box to ship it again.. like i don't want this to happen a third time.. especailly if the tube often comes off in shipping as i have haerd..

like i am litterally in tears in frustration right now. this unit was so expensive too :-(

like what?

i feel bad for telling them I Don't want the unit anymore.. I know it's not their fault.. I just honestly don't know what to do...

Does anyone else have trouble opening the unit up?

i will try and find another screw driver that will work for the bottom screws, but i tried 5 already.

and also the heating thing seems to not be working properly either..

I keep hearing how great these zephyr ion units are .. but so far i have had horrible luck .. i don't want to wait another 2 months and be stuck with another unit that does not work properly..

the first unit that i had, that girl at the repairs fixed the heating element.. but after it was fixed, she tested it out and it almost caught fire..

so they sent me a brand new one

I can't say, but you seem to be having an inordinate amount of trouble with the Zephyr. I bought one used that was pretty beat up. It looks like it was rolled down a cliff, but it functions perfectly. It's not a very complicated device: heater, pump, valve and bags. I understand that in the early days customer support was somewhat lacking, but that doesn't seem to be the case now. So it's difficult for me to understand why after several Zephyrs you haven't been able to get it to turn on, reach temp, and push vapor into a bag. Maybe it's the wrong device for you for some inexplicable reason. I also have a used Volcano, which was also beaten to within an inch of its life, and functions like new after a visit to the service center. They are functionally very similar and so far as I can tell, built with decent components. So I'm just baffled by your dilemma.

i never said I could never get it to turn on? Where did I say that?

and it's only been two units..

and zephyr did confirm that the first unit was defective.. it almost caught on fire where they fix it..

I have used a lot of vaporizers before, i know how to use them.. it's not me.. it's the unit that is defective..

neopagan's 1st unit, it seems to me was a head shop manager trying to unload a returned unit onto a new customer. Shame on them... it happens.
That was a separate incident.
neopagan received ONE certified new Zephyr.
It has an issue.
I can see why neopagan is frustrated, and I sympathize with neopagan's desire to just get back the money spent.
I am forwarding this thread to the folks at Zephyr, along with my own commentary.
Let's see if they respond!

is it really hard to unscrew the thing and put the tube back? i know nothing about electronics and this makes me nervous

edit: i also just feel bad becasue it's not their fault .. i wish the place that fixed them was not allt he way in vancouver

You did nothing to make you seem masculine.
It also says female on your profile.
I am guilty of rapid shooting out of answer's and generalizing gender.
I often use the possessive word "their" when referring item owned by soul of non specified gender.
(I understand neopagan's desire to get their money back".)
In this case I generalized your gender with a "his" (and corrected it since.)

OF COURSE it makes you nervous.
Opening units and reinserting tubes is certainly not your job....
and should be performed by a technician that is on the payroll.
More importantly, you deserve a unit that is new, shiny, and never been opened, by any civilian hands.
I sent the email on your behalf, and am waiting for response.

oh okay..

well i will see what happens, but maybe i will just send it back to vancouver and get the girl there to fix the tube..

I tried finding a screw driver to get the screws on the back of the unit (on the bottom) opened but i coudnl't.. the other ones come off but those ones for some reason, i tried 7 screw drivers and none of them worked

You are not responsible to cross out of your comfort zone (ie: not being a technician)
Asked to fix this you can always respond....
"Repair is not my strength, and considering attempting this further is making me uncomfortable"
I would not wish to open it either unless it were a freeby.
When I pay, I want them to fix it.

How long does it take for these guys to respond to an email, this seems like it should be a simple priority replacement. I empathize with your plight @neopagan, this situation would be frustrating for anybody.

there are several Volcano knockoffs, but none of the Zephyr. so far as I know. The Zephyr does the job, but for one reason or another just never caught on. The Ion I bought used looked like it had rolled down a cliff, but it fired up in about 5 minutes and blew nice bags in around a minute. IMO, it's the best alternative to the Volcano for someone who's content with bags only, and it's a lot of fun at parties.

In the first post, Bruce states that the whip will be included with this unit, that was back in 2010. Can someone that has recently purchased this tell me if it came with said whip? I don't see it listed on any of the included items lists, even the one from the online manual:

This Box Includes
1 Zephyr Ion aromatherapy vaporizer
2 Mouthpieces (bags pre-attached)
2 Baskets
1 Liquid pad set
2 Replacement air filters
2 Replacement basket seal washers
4 Replacement bags with bag ties
4 Replacement screens
1 USB cord

I do not see that it would come with a whip.
A whip does not work all that well with this unit....
the fan blows fairly fast, and with fan off I never was able to "pull" vapor from unit.

Well, I finally made it through all 49 pages. This was a very active thread back in 2010, and it took 35 pages to find out why it dropped off. I hope they have all of that behind them now.

I find it humorous that about ever other page has a new member like myself that has come on here and inquired about the whip.

I think I like this machine more than what else is on the market still today. The digital Volcano is out of my price range, and the other products that are within my budget seem like they under preform this unit by leaps. I found one listed for a good price and inquired with zephyr to insure that they are an authorized dealer so that I will have a valid warranty. With what I felt was a prompt reply since I sent the inquiry on Friday night during a holiday weekend, on Saturday they informed me that the site I was shopping on was not authorized. After a brief dialog with one of the reps at Zephyr, I decided to purchase my unit direct. So far I am please with Zephyrs' customer service.

I would like to see more long term users of this unit to reply here and let us know how their machines have held up over the last 3-4 years.

I have a Volcano and a Zephyr, as well as an EQ, which has bag filling capabilities. While the Zephyr isn't quite as efficient as the Volcano, it's reasonably close, and probably closer than any other bag filler. I like the Volcano's valve system a little better, but the Zephyr's is decent. It's a good vaporizer, especially in a group setting. It can pump out bags pretty fast
