Thanks for the welcome and info, Ratchett! Good luck with the ashcather, it looks gnarly.

On lighters,

Found this and thought it'd be pretty neat, no specs on how large the flame can get but it'd be a nice way to pair some old Bic's with the Lotus. Anyone have exp on it?

Nice find! This would be awesome if it works properly!

That Soto Pocket Torch was my first torch lighter. Such a great idea, I really wanted to love it, but…….

1. It will not work with Bic lighters, only the square-ish Scripto type, which are getting harder to find.
Several brands fit, but really only the Scripto worked reliably, and even then they would often require "hacking" to get a big enough flame to work well and even then the torch flame was still pretty small. The small flame was OK with the Vapor Genie (Glass) but too weak to heat the Lotus unless you're really patient.
2. You're using probably the worst butane you can buy: the stuff they put in $1 disposables! My Lotus plate would get black after a few sessions, presumably from the impurities.
3. You go through lighters fast, and they aren't refillable.
4. It will sputter out with the flame pointed downward long enough.

I still think it could be a worthy addition to a travel kit as a backup, and if the torch fails you've still got a regular lighter inside (good for Vapor Genie)
I hear it works better at low altitudes. (I'm at 5000ft and often vape higher)
FYI: REI sells these in the US, and are good about returns so you could always try and only be out the cost of the lighter if it wasn't satisfactory.

The best I've found is the Zico, also sold as the Arc Turboflame, which I think has been mentioned here already.

I have been using my Lotus primarily out of my D020-2-W and it is an amazing combo!
The airflow of the piece is perfect for the Lotus (and other vapes that benefit from slow draw).

I have been using my BLAZER ES1000 torch too.
At first I thought it was too hot but you have to be careful with the flame length setting because it is sensitive in the area that works best for the lotus.
However with a little care, it works flawlessly and reliably each time.

In fact, I have been doing too many loads in a row without stopping with my Lotus lately that I have been accidentally vaporizing at such a high temp that not only combustion is achieved but all the plant matter was vaporized away too, not even ash left over.

I guess the moral of the story is if you're going to do 10+ loads in a row out of your Lotus, keep the cap detached and flipped over and give it a little time to cool.

Hey Lotus fans
Seeing everyone's cool Lotus & glass setups was giving me a bad case of Glass Envy :p, so I finally got this cool ROOR water pipe: The "Inside Standard" model with 14mm joint.

I can't say it's really that much smoother than the J-hook, but it looks so cool, complements the Lotus nicely, and feels great in the hand. I found myself kicking back on the couch and swirling it around like a snifter of brandy :)

Thanks for the review! Saved us some time and money.

I'm really glad to hear this, exit, as I just ordered my d0202w along with my Lotus. Did they send you a blue accent one?

Yes they did.
Don't forget to get an adapter.
I have a 18 female to 18 female and it sits in a 18 to 14, so lots of adapters, but you'll be shocked at how well it works.

For some reason i can get 3-4 huge hits out of the lotus before it even stops being green. I don't get it. The D020-2-W is magic.

!!!!! I can't wait! Really good to be hearing this from you. Wish SSS had adapters and jhooks in stock right now, gonna have to hit some LHS. Can you post a shot / describe how much water you put in it? Does water also go on the topmost perc?

My D020-2-W actually lives at my GF's apartment. I am not there for a few days, but I will make sure I get you a pic when I get back.

One thing about the D020-2-W is if you use it as a dab rig as intended, I have no idea how you're supposed to be able to get water to filter through both the percs. If you want enough water to get through both percs, the downstem thingy will have water close to the top of it when you're not hitting it. It has never been a problem with spilling over or anything, but I would not feel comfortable using it if it wasn't a male joint you needed to throw an adapter on.

Water pressure also keeps the water sitting on top of both chambers after you draw through it. I like to have enough water where a light draw without too much power can make the water filter through the top percolator and almost splash into the sideways mouthpiece. Then when i'm hitting it, it will just barely filter through the turbine with almost no effort.

SSS does actually sell all the adapters you need. I had a 14 to 18 already, so I didn't get any from SSS, but they do sell the 18 female/female and reducers as well as jhooks, however all of those items are sold as lots so you will get between 2 or 5 of them.

IMO the BLAZER ES1000 is my ideal torch for it.
Find what you like and use it.
If I am using my lotus on the move with the pipe attachment, i use my ZICO Z38 or a $3 torch.

Thanks! I plan on making some use vids for community reference, but I'm excited to see other people's. Unfortunately, SSS is out of the adapters and all but one jhook. Would love a lot of two female 18m - 14m at 3-5$. Gonna shell out upwards of four times that at the LHS's in my city.

I've got two different torches coming in, one the standard Honest and the other a VOD fat bodied. If these can't hang I'm going to definitely look in o the ES1000. Thanks for all the help!

yo guys, my lotus has been getting a lot of use and I'm so happy with it, and I usually complain a lot about designs of things. :D it goes with me wherever. i have noticed though that it is not very stealthy at all because of two handed operation, having to focus vision to the vape, sound from the lighter and generally suspicious look of the whole activity. so i tend to head to the bush or other quiet place to use it. :ninja:

Finding a mini-burst inhale method to be really effective. Little inhale, rest, repeat. Can't wait too long between inhales or else it gets too hot.

Welcome to the site! It was friday night, I am sure MT was closed for the day. Their customer service is excellent. Be patient and they will certainly take care of you shortly.

I received my Lotus yesterday and I've vaped about 15 bowls so far testing it out. It is by far the most intuitive manual vape I've tried to date. It's almost exactly like smoking a pipe, IMO. I haven't had any problem getting huge rips with immediacy and temperature control is fairly simple: more heat and/or slower draw = higher temp and vice versa. I've also been packing my bowls on the tighter side (~.15) without issue. I love the overall simplicity and that it feels like smoking from a pipe, a habit I found very soothing and relaxing back in my combustion days. The Lotus will definitely be my go to portable now. I think it may even find itself getting some use at home at times when the Herbalizer may be a bit of overkill. For just over $100 it's looking like a tough one to beat.

Holy Moley! 15 bowls of 0.15 since yesterday? :science: You better watch out for space debris up there :D
My Lotus bowls are about 0.05g and one is usually plenty! The lotus is crazy efficient:tup:

What is the optimal/preferred torch flame length among Lotus fans? Does anyone like to adjust the torch as the bowl roasts, or have you found that perfect setting you'll never change?

As most persons, I keep my torch length about the same as the length between points on the lotus cap. I only adjust the distance of lighter to cap, not the length of flame.

I have enough time with it I do adjust distance "by touch" and feel the heat on my tongue. I can quickly tell if i am too hot or not close enough.

Wow! That was an amazing report!!! Feeling a little jealous with your packed bowls and Herbalizer around, especially those days that I am completely dry...
I'd love to read some more of your thoughts comparing the Lotus with the Herbalizer after maybe a few days of usage. I know the Herbie is a beast of a machine but I was always wondering if precise temp control really is sooo important after all. I wonder if The Lotus can give you what you want compared to the Herbie and if they are comparable in speed of effects. You seem to have a high tolerance, how fast each vape can get you there? Can the clouds be comparable? Can the Lotus give you equally lung busting hits? I would love a full analysis of those two completely different beasts and you seem to put your words in writing very well and you also seem to be a heavy hitter!!! Looking forward for your thoughts :) Welcome to the club mate!

Thanks for the welcome!

The Lotus vs. Herbalizer analysis is definitely something I plan to break down in detail once I've had more time with the Lotus. But for now I will say I don't think the two are in the same league, which to be fair should be as expected given the difference in price and hardware. The Lotus hits like a pipe (hell, it is a pipe, though I should have the WPA shortly which may change things a bit) whereas the Herbalizer can hit like a pipe, a 6ft bong, or anything in between. Just to respond to one of your questions that I can soundly answer without more Lotus experience - precise temperature control isn't a necessity (we've all been vaping for years without it), but now that I have it, there's no way in hell I'm giving it up. The ability to control the medicinal effects of my meds through precise temperature control has completely changed the way I medicate. I use different temperatures based on strain, desired effects, and time of day. It opens up an entirely new world.

The reason I can see the Lotus getting some use at home on occasion is really because I love the pipe feel. Back when I was combusting I enjoyed nothing more than kicking back and sipping on a pipe. So the Lotus essentially gives me that option again.

I've vaped a few more Lotus bowls since my last post and I just flat out enjoy using this thing. Simple as that. I'll be back with a detailed vape comparison once I have some more time to play with my new toy :D
