Hey, SM & crew...

Will you guys be heading up to the Cannabis Cup in Seattle on Sept 6-7th? I plan on being there and it would be great to meet up with you guys...finally...:)

...it would also be great to meet some fellow FC'ers at the CC, too. I can't be there both days, but I will attend on Sat. Hope some of you will make it there...

I saw the herbalizer was on massdrop. Im so tempted on that one to balance out my EVO. The herbalizer seems to balance out the EVO for a perfect Vape setup. I'm tempted to get a backup evo instead. Decisions decisions.

Shit guys... i need help... i've really had my eye on the evo for a long time, but for a little bit more i can get the "king of vapes". $450 for the evo, or $599 for the Herbalizer. (gonna post this in both threads and get everyones opinions.)

Is the EVO for $450, or the Herbalizer for $599 a better deal/bang for my buck?

All high end vaporizers do the job well. So then it just boils down to preference. I haven't used my Herbie enough to know. I'm enamored with the E-nano at the moment: I go between E-nano, EVO, Solo. I'm sure I'd be just as happy to put Herbie in rotation, and I know somewhere down the road Herbie will be there.

I'm just receiving so much pleasure at the amount of control these vapes have. Like many here, I chase the flavor first, and they all allow that. You can use a water tool with them all: thus re-hydrating and cooling the vapor. If I could only have one, then for me, I admire the ability to do concentrates and flowers as easily as the EVO. Just my opinion.

Is that $450 price for the EVO the mass drop deal?
Cuz if so, you've gotta account for the value of the hydratube.
Tbh I've never really seen the massive appeal of the herbaliser, but honestly, I didn't think it was considered "the king"?

Everyone says a Cloud is supposed to be heat soaked for a while so its performance gets to stable maximum.
After so much time doing that I've found out I actually like a freshly heated Cloud more.
Maybe it has slightly less performance this way, but it's WAY MUCH smoother.
I think this is because the male joint gets hot and therefore conduction sets in when the unit has been heat soaked for a while.
We know conduction heat tastes worse. When the EVO is freshly heated and its LED turns green, the convection is about 90% ready.
Yet the joint is still cold and so vaping now means pure convection via glass surface - smoothest and best tasting hits ever.

When you let the unit heat soak for a while, the heat in the bamboo soaks down into the turbulence chambers (this slightly enhances fast-pulling heat retention)
and also up to the joint (this adds a bit of conduction extending the performance slightly, but makes the vapor harsher yet taste the same temperature-wise).

Also when using the EVO like this, the session is over before the enclosure can even get warm.
The Sublimator is the vape that set performance as its number one goal.
The Cloud is not only about performance, it's goal number one is actually purity.
So that's why I think using a freshly heated EVO is actually how a Cloud should be used to show it's best potential.
Letting it heat soak makes it less Cloud and more Sublimator. We bought an EVO because we want a Cloud.
For these pure smooth tasty hits.

I wholeheartedly agree on all points :-)

Personally, I enjoy having the option of either a heavier, full-spectrum vapor VS a headier, pure vapor.

The taste and effects seem the same no matter if the unit is heat soaker or not. It's just the smoothness and performance that seem to change when heat soaked.
I agree it's a good thing having the option, but the option is "smooth and powerful VS harsh and even more powerful".
"full spectrum VS headier" is still dependent on the dial. Yes, there is a small temp increase on heat soak but that's not the cause of the harshness.
I like vaping at freshly heated 3 pm. It is high-temp tasting and powerful, yet it is also smooth.

Ah that's a very valid point you bring up.

I agree that freshly heated @ 3 isn't the same as fully-soaked @ 12 - even though they're both higher-temp vapor compared to freshly heated to 12. That convection/conduction difference is [also] agreeably responsible for that pure/smooth vs harsher but thicker change in performance.

Ok, i've decided to get the EVO through MD, its $499.99+$11.06 shipping, no tax except for cali and NJ.

The reason i've made this choice is due to MDs Sketchy Dealings with Herbalizer, they never got permission the 1st time, or this time.
Now on their website it says: "WARNING: Warranty is only valid when purchased from a physical store on an Authorized Online Retailer. And DEFINITELY NOT Massdrop. Save your receipt!"

MD is doing some sketchy shit on that drop, but that won't stop me from grabbing an EVO at the great price.

Have you browsed the Herbie thread at all? It may assist in seeing the massive appeal, but pretty sure it has something to do with the super accurate temps and how quickly it can get there, up or down. After using the Herbie, I still have a hard time getting over the price, and am very resistant to going back to whips/bags like the old Arizer Extreme days. My Cloud continues to impress me daily, but if I could score a Herbie for a much better price (not MD) I definitely wouldn't hesitate. I feel the Herbie is more of a medicinal device between the two, because of the temp accuracy. IMO the Herbie (even through a whip) tastes better too.

Wanted to share my experience with a Doughboy Klein recycler hydro tube. I left my thoughts in the Doughboy thread. http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/doughboy-glass.15057/page-9#post-651109

I don't have a ton of experience with hydro tubes, just a swagger side circ, PWNT, an Assassins Necktie, and now this one. The Doughboy recycler is far and away my favorite. Makes me love the Evo all that much more. FWIW, I would rank

Doughboy recycler >>>Assasins Necktie>swagger side circ>PWNT.

I like where you're going with this, Seek...time for some testing!

Me too. I always was of the mindset that the vape isn't ready for at least a few min, but just enjoyed it as soon as it went green, just went higher on the dial. It was in fact smoother.

The ABV is less dark colored though. Not sure if I should take that to mean less done or what. I don't particularly care since I use very little, I'm not worried about "wasting" anything since I make use of my ABV. The only thing I'd be worried about is not getting various cannabinoids that I may or may not get if I went with the heat soak method.

Any thought there? Its probably worth it for the smoothness alone.

Just ordered a pair of quartz VXNs.
My (original) two are getting pretty thickly scuzzy, and I want to be able to give them some long soaking/cleaning cycles. Also, quartz appeals to me.

I'm hoping that these will be around a long time. I have had no issues with the glass ones, so far, other than keeping them clean-ish.

I have been using Herbie at 445 a lot lately and put some of that abv in the EVO on high (it was coming out pretty light tan in Herbie). I got a couple of ass tasting hits that I decided weren't worth the trouble. It came out darker after being in the EVO. My conclusion is that the darkness of the abv is more an indicator of conduction heating than how fully it was extracted. This makes me think we can get the same kind of results from the EVO on high without a heat soak. I'm off to try this soon!

EDIT: I just did this run and the abv came out looking just like my Herbie abv. the elb was a little hot to the touch when done, so I may have been just getting to conduction heat when done. But I took a good six or seven hits, so it was exhausted.

So rock on, Seek, and thanks for the tip! I'll start hitting my EVO from green on my lower temp runs next and see how it does.

Is there any reason to think we wouldn't be able to torch the quartz ones clean? That alone would make it worth the extra cash. I mean torching quartz nails is fine, I can't see why not.
