If there are any FF people reading this: I would love for there to be a "use outlet instead of battery" option. I understand this is ment to be a portable, but damn if I don't run out of juice at the worst times. I don't feel the need to recharge after every use because sometimes my session is 1 bowl, sometimes 3. Maybe a second battery would solve this, but my need is rare enough that I dont want to be juggling batteries.

My only 2 complaints about the FF are battery life and the mushy power button. Small complaints on a otherwise fantastic device.

Agreed. The button sucks. But it works. As to "use while charging", the problem isn't just the cord, a power adapter that would continuously supply the full wattage (as I recall over 50 watts) would have to be way more industrial than a typical USB type charger that supplies 5 volts at 0.5 A, i.e. 2.5 watts. The battery is small but a serious 7.5 volt unit that stores a lot of energy.

With one battery I wouldn't ever try to squeeze by: one session, time to recharge. I'd say just get another battery, dude, I mean Sir, then you can rotate and fully use the batteries.

Happy friday all!

here's a quick ABV comparison shot between my FF and my Flowermate.
Since I'm so new to all of this, I don't know if the dark counts as "combusted" or not. (I've never actually smoked, never plan to).

What do you think? is the darkness of the top ABV normal for a Firefly? Definitely tasted a bit burny to me and its the least "burny" abv I've gotten from my FF. Is this normal for you all? Am I being overly concerned about getting combustion?

The top pile is Firefly ABV of Plushberry hand torn, using all the tips I received from Shelby.

The middle is abv from same strain in my Flowermate Vapormax V.

Bottom obviously is fresh. I put the brown card in there as kind of a baseline of a dark brown color.

I should clarify that only SOME of the FF abv seems potentially combusted to me - the medium sized and some of the smaller pieces near top and top left of the top pile. (Blackened)

Don't worry mate. This certainly is not combustion. It's over-cooked maybe but not burnt. Do you stir the load or shake it in your FF? Stirring/shaking will possibly give you a more uniform ABV.... If you combust you will see grey ash and will immediately be able to taste the smoke. If you don't like the pop-corny taste at the end of a session, you can always throw away the ABV. No need to take a load to it's limits... :)

And doesn't Flowermate use lower temps than the FF?

Thank you! It really helps to get feedback on this.
I do stir, generally every 3 hits.

So side question - do any of you firefly lovers actually reuse your firefly abv when it is this dark?

I usually stir or shake after every hit myself. But anyway, the results keep getting better the more you use it.
And I never reuse my ABV these days. Not much is left in it to make it worthy...

Keep vaping! :)

I agree with NF, that isn't combustion. I would describe that as "charred". If the FF really combusts (which it shouldn't unless it's malfunctioning), you will know it...smoke pouring out, a smell that invades several rooms, a device that must be cleaned with iso...bad stuff. However, it looks like your FF is running pretty efficiently (which is great) so there are some things you can do to mitigate it running too hot, if you like...

1. Don't press the button down more than once per hit, or else you start the heat cycle again
2. Obviously, hold down the button a shorter amount of time
3. Make sure you stir every few hits to expose all the material
4. Don't grind your material too fine (start with larger, finger-ground pieces)

I also agree with NF's advice to keep vaping. It's for, like, science, and stuff. :science:(Good luck!! Welcome to FC!)

Wow! Is that what regular pot smokers deal with?? Is it really that bad? No thanks man I'll stay with what I've got.

Like burnt toast but 10x worse.. Ever seen the stem of a combustion bong? One look is enough to turn you to stone.

Also, in the market for a portable vape and the Firefly has peaked my interests. As with all vapes, there are pros and cons. I am a low-consumption user. My desktop vape (Arizer EQ) is for extended sessions where I use a vapecycler and have the time/space to sit down and make a bit of a mess.

I need something for times when I am outside of the house, and just want to take 2-3 hits and get on with my day without a great deal of maintenance. Any positive/negative experiences or extra info that ya'll would like to share with a potential buyer?

This pretty much sums up why I got mine. Something that is ready pretty instantly, doesn't waste bud and taste/medication wise is really really good. The only negative is that the high quality mostly metal FF is on the heavy side. No big deal really.

Weight doesn't mean anything to me. Infact it's usually a sign of good material composition :)
Do you experience any burning of the bud or bad odour, or difficulty cleaning certain parts of it?
I am also taking this comment below (made about 30 pages ago) into heavy consideration...

Portability is at the top of my requirement list for a portable vape (believe it or not..) so the firefly looks good!
Anyone who owns a shit-ton of vapes and can swear by the FF over the apparently more 'user friendly' Solo?
The solo bowl does get hot from conduction, but it don't think it is nearly hot enough to produce vapor. That only seems to happen when I draw heated air through the stem. Therefore, I'd say that the bulk of vapor production is due to convection.

As to taste, I've never achieved better taste with my firefly than my solo. At best, they are equal, but results with the solo are consistently good so, on average, the solo gives better results. I've yet to spoil a bowl with my solo before it was spent. With my firefly, if I (or, usually, my wife) wasn't careful, it'd get scorched, and the popcorn taste would taint the entire contents of the bowl. In fact, my firefly currently smells of it, but I'm too lazy to clean it.

In my opinion, especially given the massive price difference, a solo is a much better first machine than a firefly. I think this will provide a more positive experience for most people, will save them money and hassle. I wish someone would have told me that before I bought my firefly, but I was seduced by all the talk about "the flavor", etc., by prolific and experienced posters.

Maybe these people can, somehow, coax superior flavor out of their firefly over their solo everytime, but I cannot and it is likely that most people will not see enough of a consistent improvement to justify getting a firefly over a solo as a first time vaporizer.

So, my advice: Start with a solo. It's cheaper, and you are more likely to get satisfactory results straightaway. Then, if you are not satisfied or curious, and your budget allows, get a firefly. The only exception to this would be if you must have superior portability but, even then, keep in mind the firefly's limited battery life...

No bad odor at all. I do the 'chunky' method with some stirring between hits. The portion at the bottom of the FF bowl usually gets darkest first, thus the stirring. I've gotten no burning from my unit at all. As for cleaning, the 'chunky' method goes a long way in mitigating the frequency. I use iso on a paper towel and cleaning is a breeze. I once made the mistake of thinking that what I thought was 'gunk' turned out to be the bowl ring seal. Luckily when I picked at it and it partially came out I was able to put it back in place. Need to pick up some mini torx bit's for future maintenance.

And in regards to it's cleanability? I'm a man that likes to have my electronics clean as fuck! Don't want any hard to reach areas or buds falling into the heater that I may never see again..
I'm watching reviews at the moment but any questions I can ask here is a big help also so thank you @Smknbud ;)

Don't know about "shit-ton" but I have several portables, including the Solo and two FFs, and my desktop of preference is the Arizer VTE, so we have some similar vaping tastes. You mentioned low volume and on-demand. FF is the champ of this approach.

I love the Solo, and don't really have anything negative to say about it. For your purposes the FF may be preferable because:

1. FF is on demand and never wastes material.
2. FF is more portable and stealthy than the Solo (though not super stealthy like some vapes, but pretty stealthy. I've hit it in some interesting places.)
3. FF is pure convection, not a trace of conduction like the Solo. The flavor is out of this world, better than any portable I've tried.
4. No nasty gunky paraphernalia vibe like you get with the Solo's glass stems (which work nice, but can break and again scream "SMOKING DEVICE" to anyone who sees it).
5. AMAZING mind-blowing out-of-this-world service that will bind you to the FF folks like an arc welder.

Solo is great. Only used mine once since mid-December when I got my first FF.

I've got mine for a few months now and it's a breeze to clean! Just a wipe with a piece of toilet paper after use an a couples of bowls will keep it in great condition until the monthly maybe deep clean up which is dead easy and takes a few minutes to return it to a pristine condition...

Bowl: the bottom diameter is larger such that where a Wispr screen does not perfectly fit but has some play and comes out easily (old one fit like a glove especially once "resinated".

My new Red FF replacement arrived today. Haven't taken it for a spin yet, but one thing is for sure...the bowl is sized differently than my old one, like yours. However, it's smaller, not larger....the 7 hole Iolite screen will not fit. At all. Not even close.....gets stuck about 2/3 of the way down the bowl.

Oh well. Back to stock screens on my Red FF. Hopefully better performance mitigates that issue.

I always wished the bowl being smaller... I always use more herb when going to the FF from my Lotus! Good call FF!!!

Are FFs all different or do they just often make small changes to continue to improve their product?
I have heard some people in the FF thread mention that they have a 'cool one' and a 'hotter one' as if one heats more efficiently than the other :( Is this common?

The FF can definitely be used in this way. I do it all the time. You do need a little privacy though. Not for long, but a little bit. And maybe a stirring / mashing tool.

I just keep a tool and a mini brush in my JyARz with my extra herbs. Always good to have a little extra, in case you meet a special someone who likes herbs...

The FF CAN be carried around in your pocket and seem natural. But, as far as pants go, you need to be wearing pants that fit well, or be wearing a belt, due to the weight. Tight pants and small pockets would be a bad idea. Jeans, slacks, cargo pants, and track pants (tied up well) have worked okay for me.

Since you're a low-consumption user, you would probably not need more than two batts, possibly one - although specific numbers would be needed to confirm, of course. I only ever need one battery, but I keep an extra in the car. Hell, I usually only need one bowl of 100 % legal herbs in my FF for the day.

If you'd have access to electrical outlets, the external charger is a nice way to subtly charge up.

It sure as shit ain't perfect for outside the home, but now that I've gotten used to those early flavor hits of the FF, I'm afraid no other portable will do, outside the home, for now.

But I still strongly prefer using the FF at home instead, and am always actively looking for something to replace it for out there so that I don't have to endanger it by making it leave the house. The Elevape SV looks interesting and I might pick it up out of curiosity, even though I don't much care for its vibe.

I hate to say it, but if you're looking for something to use ONLY out of the house, I'm not sure I'd recommend the FF. Maybe, but I'd look around first, for sure. And definitely read the entire thread. ;)

Couldn't be much easier to clean. Can make it look like new, other than a few ISO streaks on the inside.

The FF ain't the most portable, but with a couple restrictions, it can be a really great experience. It is certainly not for any on-the-go situation though.

Sometimes I'll still "char" my material a bit if I get a really leafy piece of 100 % legal herb in there. Or if I forget at what point I'm at with the session. Rare, once you find your groove.

I have a Solo and an FF, and I use them both every day. I would never use the Solo during the day, and I'd never use the FF to finish off my material at the end of the night. I use them completely differently. If I had to choose one, I'd choose the FF... and then buy some other vape that utilized at least some conduction. The Solo is a great vape, but for me... it's just a reliable tool. The FF, meanwhile, IMO, offers a much more unique vaping experience. And it just looks so fucking cool.

Are FFs all different or do they just often make small changes to continue to improve their product?

It seems as though minor tweeks are continuing to occur.

Been using an FF every day since late December.

Everything you said was great except for that! The FF will be my emergency vape outside of the house. I will never need more than 1 bowl pack per day (maybe 2 if I meet a special someone ;)) and I will always have a charger handy.
Around the house i'll use my desktop vape and water pipe so the FF won't get used unless I feel like medicating outside or in the backyard..
It'll really just live in my little travel herb kit.. I am close to getting one but the only competition is the Pax at the moment but I have not heard many FC users who can highly recommend it compared to the large following that FF has!
And yes Solo does not sound like my type of thing unfortunately

It's unclear but there seems to be a range where either end (too cool/so hot it combusts) would be considered malfunctioning. The heating coil placement appears to have very little tolerance and small changes made by users who've opened the FF up have resulted in often drastically altered performance. The changes in this new one I just received do seem to be actual slight product updates (like the thinner beveling on the bowl). It also seems to be operating way more efficiently than any I've used yet, but I'm not prepared to render a verdict just yet! ;)

It is worth keeping in mind that they've been through at least their share of first gen issues (mostly consistency and performance, not design) so it's been useful to be patient and remember how good the service is....(I've purchased two but been through five, for one example)...

Amnesiac is right that it's not the greatest outside-the-house vape...it's stealthy, but less so than a few other vapes. I also had the same plan to use FF only in certain circumstances, and otherwise rely on a desktop in the house. That lasted about two weeks...and then, I started using the FF all the time, to the exclusion of all my other devices, when possible. There is nothing like the FF flavor!!

Interesting. Can anyone here vouch for the Pax at all? I can imagine that one being the most stealthy, however STEALTH probably isn't at the top of my list..
I will use it without shame or worry while walking or driving.
Not going to be hitting it infront of crowds of people or near police, so I'm not sure exactly how bloody stealthy a vape needs to be
And what stops it from being the best outside vape. Is there something about the FF that isn't ideal for pulling out of my pocket and hitting it whenever I want? I think it seems perfect for that purpose!
Basically got my finger on the 'Checkout' button and very excited for this device :) What accessories did you all get also? Are there any mods or extra attatchments that go well with the FF? Maybe a longer stem or some sort of way to 'cool' the vapor before I inhale it?

Also found this on another forum:

"Pax = more smelly, hotter vapor, easier to load and use right out of the box.
FF = more "technique" dependent, a little more awkward to load, cooler vapor, bigger learning curve.
If you want big hot hits quickly and don't mind the smell go with the Pax.
If you want cooler hits, don't mind working on your "technique", and are o.k. with having a larger, heavier unit then go with the FireFly."

I haven't used the Pax so I have no perspective. I think the fact that the FF has some resemblance to a smoking device may be one factor. It also has pretty poor battery life, so that's another factor...and yes, awkward to load and stir in certain circumstances. But it's totally usable outside...as I said I've used it in a few interesting places. I just think there are some vapes that would be better candidates for stealthy applications...but that said, I really don't think any of them (that I've used) can compete with the FF for flavor, performance (when you get the hang of it), or just sheer pleasure of vaping. But yeah, for most purposes, it's plenty stealthy enough.

I know that @Volteric has a PAX and has offered some comparisons throughout the thread. I bet he'd even be willing to offer an up-to-date viewpoint, if you ask him nicely...

I've used a PAX once, and felt no need to purchase one. Didn't like the temp settings, and was not right for me at all. Smell factor was major. Almost as bad as my Ascent and my caked-with-goo MFLB back in the day. I don't find the FF more difficult to load than a PAX. The opposite, actually.

The FF is actually quite fun to use while driving. And you actually can use it in crowds, if you're a good enough actor and have a few feet of space.

I'd certainly like to see you join the FF thread here, but I also don't want to convince you to buy a vape just because I love mine.

If you're gonna go for it, then I'd try to get everything in one shipment and get at least one extra battery, an external charger, maybe an extra power adapter if you think you'd even need to charge two batts at once, maybe even a cleaning kit for the extra screens. Assuming, of course, you're confident you're going to love your FF.

Dang, @Deja Vu ... I was thinking you were Canadian. I knew you were SOMETHING. I believe that @natural farmer is an Aussie with a FF. He may have some good advice on how to obtain one.

Dang, @Deja Vu ... I was thinking you were Canadian. I believe that @natural farmer is an Aussie with a FF. He may have some good advice on how to obtain one.
I hope those two users you tagged chime in with some info! and yeah i'm an Italian living in the coldest part of Australia :( Not a good mix!
Unfortunately even the official Firefly website doesn't ship to Australia.. How painful! I'll keep searching.

edit: (just for my own documentation! ;) )
