Ammonia during vaporizing

You would think with all the medical marijuana patients using vaporizer, if they were indeed toxic, it would have been made public. Not that there haven't been isolated incidents i'm sure, I'm just wondering if anyone has attributed it to vapor usage.

I will try to make some phone calls and post results. Anyone have any insight as to who would be good to call specifically in this regard? I'm going to start with my local medicinal clinic.

What I know about urine is that because of the ammonia it's a sterile medium; besides having waste products in it, it contains valuable, individually-customized antibodies that can cure external issues like athlete's foot and hemorrhoids (piss on your feet/wipe your bum with it):brow:
Ot, but this is why the yogis and other traditional medicine types also use it systemically/internally.
Pee actually contains a large amount of active fungi and protozoan parasites. So not very healthy. Much of Ayurvedic medicine isn't very safe for those of us born in the western world. Been there and done that, got sick near death.

Some thoughts/replies to various comments, or motivated from comments above:

-Yes; this was quality herb.

-While I'm only guessing, it seems that perhaps distilled water would be an ideal start because it should be only H20: nothing else. This suggests to me that given the same amount of herb filtered, distilled water (versus non-distilled water) would take longer to become saturated (i.e. it would filter more, and/or perhaps filter more efficiently).

-I'm curious to know at what point the water becomes saturated and fails to "filter." (If this filtering is actually beneficial, changing water before the point of saturation will be, too.)

-Urine is not an inherently sterile medium, despite what BG says or does. :p

- @Dafni: are you suggesting that I dilute the post-vape water to get it down to within testable parameters (per my kit's limitation)? How would I do this while maintaining 'integrity' of my original post-vape solution? I can imagine diluting it in half, then testing, but then what? I might get half the original number - but what would that really mean, considering I cut the number in half? Would this suggest that half the amount vaped (more or less) would equal the diluted amount?

-I think I'll try it again but measure after one session. Sessions happen anyway, so why not?

-What would have been made public, if toxic, @matious? Smoking is toxic, we know. We vaporize in attempt to lessen the toxicity exposure but I feel that I would be naive to think that vaporizing is totally harmless.

@michaelb.

I understand. It's mostly the nervous system effects of ammonia I'm concerned with. Personally, having different sensations when vaping than smoking. Though better breathing is certainly noticed after only vaping, which was my primary desire. I'm also aware that my symptoms could surely be psychosomatic and the resulting anxiety perhaps induced from only using sativa.

Like you said, "vaporize in an attempt to lessen the toxicity exposure", so a pretty sizable increase in ammonia is concerning to me, even if everything else is minimized.

I realize, like previous stated, everybody reaction is going to be different.

I guess what I meant with "public" is that, if the ammonia level were indeed toxic enough and enough people after long term use are getting unique symptoms only attributed to vapor usage, I figure it would have been shown on aggregate user reports from medically prescribed users, or even from customers of the products.

I'm not hoping to scaremonger. I just take comfort in knowing the long term effects of smoking vs the unknown with vaping.

That's interesting, I didn't realize that so many creatures could survive such an inhospitable medium!

I would think that this would be worse from those with active infections and compromised immunities? I've read that systemically infected people have cloudy urine, I would think that would be something to avoid for sure. I can see how a diet of cheap meat, processed foods and gluten et al could provide for a perfect storm of increased pathogens and decreased immunity, and of course perforated intestines for facilitation. I have had good results using it internally in the past, it's been a while since I've done it and it was with specific instruction. I would think that most people could at least handle it for topical use?

From reading your posts over time, I'm sure you realize that damn near everybody has literally millions of "active fungi and protozoan parasites" living inside them. The trick imo is to use/increase the good and kill off/discard the bad (especially the parasites, which can be anything from a tapeworm to a sco). Contrary to popular opinion whatever doesn't kill you doesn't always make you stronger, it may just keep you weak and miserable. But it could make you stronger, that's pretty much how antibodies and immunity are supposed to work (unless one is so dysfunctional that their immune system is actively working against them) right?

Edit: how about mixing urine with some cbd tincture, using it's anti-microbial properties to kill the pathogens; would the antibodies survive? (kinda ;), kinda think so!)

Yes. If you dilute it in half and get into the testable range, simply multiply the reading by two and you have the actual value.
Or if you need to dilute it 1 to 10, just multiply your result by ten. Easy as that. All analytics works that way. It's all about getting into the range of your instruments. Sometimes you need to dilute, sometimes you need to concentrate.

you will inhale more ammonia cleaning a toilet or floor...

this seems over the top and absurde..

if your worried about ammonia vapor why are you vaporizing?

lets make it easy shale we....

concentrate it so you dont vaporize compounds from the plant material.

or better yet... eat it.

I don't think we should be so dismissive if for no other reason than we should know exactly what we are consuming. Unfortunately the research in this area is currently limited. That means there are a lot of us doing something that that no one fully understands. Even if vaporization is 100% safe, we should be perusing the knowledge for why so that we can defend ourselves or make accurate points when needed.

I believe this would significantly add more credibility to the cannabis and vaporization community.

Doesn't ammonia have a very very low boiling point? and if so, using one of the vapes that has a fan, couldn't the ammonia be removed from the product by setting the lowest temp on the vape and letting the fan blow off the ammonia into the air? (Kind of in the same manner as someone removing the euphoric THC with the same method, then kicking up the temps to vape mostly CBDs?)

Seen docs, blood work etc all normal.

Is there any test available for ammonia? I'm still concerned with ammonia night sweats. Started to vape in a 3 hour window instead of wake n vape all day long.

lol. Ya I'm healthy as a horse, I'm an athlete as well. The ammonia smell comes and goes and is a part of sweat, and I sweat like crazy on t breaks, completely soaked bed. So I'm starting to think it's some sort of withdrawl, intense sleeping, or maybe not taking a leak before bed? It's been ongoing all summer, sadly I will have to rule out the herb soon :(

sweat is little more that body moisture being pushed to the surface of your skin so that you can be more easily cooled by the air via evaporative cooling...

sweat doesnt stink at all actually...

but the bacteria that feast uppon the excrement of your skin do cause an odur as a byproduct.

I would rule vaping herb out at the start... what you eat and drink have more to do with your perspiration...

do you eat alot of health greens and such? asparagus can make a man all sorta stinky! (ive had experience!)

maybe your so high you just think you smell it? thats pretty high!

sorry just trying at levity.

I think my night sweats may be environmental, or simply contingent on how much meds I get during the day. Yesterday I broke my (no daytime vaping) rule and didn't have a drop of sweat all night. Perhaps the nights are getting cooler too, but i'm still trying to figure this one out.

but i'm still trying to figure this one out

this gets more true about more things as i get older ... i'm waiting for a FitBit type watch/ankle strap/arm band/collar that will let me track events during the day to try to zero in on what affects my chronic conditions.

Still ongoing sweats every single night to the point of drenched sheets/pillows. Haven't had the ability to go without weed for a while, still trying to figure out a game plan, but mentally i'm seriously having a cock block or something lol.

Gonna up my carbs, have a feeling the sweating could be metabolism related and the result of gluconeogenesis (muscle protein converting to glucose), but just gotta keep testing different things. I'll nail it in time.

Hey guys, i got curious and tested the ammonia levels in my bubbler water. turns out that vaping thru my cloud raises the amount of ammonia found in the water, I started with distilled water, no ammonia, after vaping i had over 5ppm in my water.
I see two thing here, ammonia is either produced or released during the vaporization process.
vaping thru water would reduce the amount of ammonia reaching your lungs, due to the water trapping some ammonia.
EDIT I have pics, may add later

@biohacker , Unless you're a woman in menopause or post-menopause having night sweats for months on end is usually indicative of serious physical problems that need Medical Attention ASAP.

Not something to self diagnose and treat safely as it could be caused by a number life threatening conditions/illnesses. Seek medical help this ain't normal.

Also was one of the first signs i had Hep and then a few years later AIDS.

Continued Night sweats do not happen in a Truly Healthy Male Type person, Ever.

never never ever.

Wow, that's interesting - thanks for testing! Hmmm, wonder if anything (rezblock) added to the water would filter more of the ammonia? I suppose it would filter cannabinoids as well.

@RUDE BOY I've been tested over and over and the dr's don't know, but i'm certain I do - and it's the cannabis. I will know this 100% shortly as I will be abstaining asap. The sweats usually subside by a few weeks, but this is the first time i've had sweats like this even while medicating, but wake n' vaping and vaping all day is new, as is my new diet and low body fat. So many factors....... you are wrong never say never. Sweating at night can also indicate a fat burning mechanism taking place and about a million other things. I'm sorry to hear about your ill heath, but i'm pretty certain this is self induced in some capacity. Even shift work fucks me right up...so many factors man.

NIGHT SWEATS and sometimes sweating at night ain't the same thing. I say Never because that is the way it is PERIOD.

good luck to ya though and pray i'm wrong and that you're one of the odd ones out of billions of humans whose physiology differs from the rest of us.

:peace:

Oh? Using drugs excessively (or even at all) including marijuana, can cause night sweating as well. I don't teach, but I am educated with a degree thank you, and I do my own research, and i'll be back when the sweats cease to exist! Cheers dude!

Sorry thought you were teaching psychology for some reason must have confused you with someone else.

I'm really not trying to be a dickhead with these posts I just believe continued true Sleep Hyperhidrosis(night sweats) means there is more going on.

I've worked hands on with heroin addicts going cold turkey after 10 or more years using, strapped to a bed they sweat for 2-3 days and nights at most. The worst were winos where the buildup of sulfites in their bodys would give 'em true night sweats for 5-7 days.

Just concerned it could be a more serious situation than you think is all, but hope not.
May you Be well and sleep well(and dry).

Thanks dude, nope - been through this before, and after cessation the sweats go away, and the sleep quality eventually goes up. I just need to go through shit before I get there. My own fault and doing as usual, but this ammonia thing does intrigue me. I feel that my body is excreting toxins at night due to the cannabis, and ammonia is a byproduct potentially. I dunno, but there is a reason why withdrawals occur and why sweating and insomnia are up on the list. I can't wait to have a dry night's rest!

Day 5.....last night the sweats were greatly improved (wet t-shirt vs bed), and i've lost a shit tonne of water weight...i have never been this chiseled in my life. The night before I didn't sweat AT ALL, but that's because I didn't sleep AT ALL.

Looking forward to vaping .1-.2g tonight! Then it's back to the cleanse! I can only take so much sleep deprivation with a high level full time career. It will be interesting to see if I sweat tonight or not while medicated, but surely i'll sleep (I hope!).

Cheers

Curious, as to what pics you are talking about? Or do you mean proof of the ammonia?

I am now finished day 6 of my cleanse. Decided not to vape last night....was just too tired from work and little sleep over the past week, and honestly just didn't feel like it. I am very much liking sober life.

So I slept from 9pm-2am and that's it...I was wide awake, and felt pretty decent and somewhat rested. I did have a good sweat again....shirt soaked, but that's it...sheets ok for the most part, and no ammonia stench!

I'm super exhausted after a long busy day at work.....soooo looking forward to a good sober night sleep. I can't remember if i've mentioned this before (I swear I feel like I have alzheimers now), but one t-break took me FIVE entire weeks to stop sweating. Then again, another time it only took 5 days!

I'm really starting to wonder about the buildup of ammonia in my body. I have noticed seriously improved respiratory function....breathing is so effortless, and no nasal mucus/congestion whatsoever!

I'm keeping an eye on my blood oxygen concentration (sp02) because it should be 98%+ as a "non smoker and athlete" but i've been as low as 95% which concerns me slightly. I'm starting to realize that vaping in the quantities I was isn't as benign as I once thought.

I'm definitely changing some thought patterns forsure, I feel like i'm being reborn!

One week tomorrow! One more to go!

@MinnBobber you just tripped me out man....just posted before me!
