Trouble Getting Reclaim Off Pyrex Dish - Any Tips?

AZJR

New Member
So I did my first reclaim of my glass bubbler and after all the ISO evaporated I was left with a nice pile of reclaim on my pyrex dish. I tried using a razor blade to scrape it all up, but I only got maybe 50-75% of the reclaim off the dish. I tried doing a water bath so I could scrape it off easier but most of it is just spreading itself around and not wanting to come up off the pyrex dish.

I also have a lot built up in the curve of the dish where it starts to go up the sidewalls, I can't get the razor to scrape in there evenly, any tips?

Would throwing it in the freezer make it any easier to scrape off?

I use a Stanley blade which is like a thick/rigid razor blade,

When collecting, don't drag the blade over the gunk instead push the blade into the gunk, with the right technique you should be able to lift everything with 1 sweep, if you miss a bit go back and collect on second sweep, work so you're pushing a line forward, gunk on 1 side clean on the other.

Thanks, that is what I was using but I don't think I had the method down correctly. I have about .2 left in there still around the curved edges still, not sure how I am going to get that out for sure yet. Thanks for the help!

If it was still that gooey, personally, I would have allowed it to continue to purge, even with reclaim it should scrape up nice and even together with little to no residue left behind.

Freezing it will definitely not help

Get as much as you can by hand... reserve that on the side, it will be the best quality.

If you really want to get every last bit you can take high proof alcohol (190 + proof... like everclear) and use it as a solvent. Swish it around, agitate it by hand with a hanger or similar tool to get into tight spaces. After it's dissolved (higher the proof the quicker) pour it through a coffee filter to remove any solids and into a glass dish. Double boil the solution to cook off the alcohol and water. End result can be pretty good smoke. There is still plenty of high left in the stuff that sticks to your pipes. It's just not connoisseur flavor. You can do with with any resin buildup. Once the alcohol is evaporated all you're left with is the remaining matter stuck to your bong or pipe walls. ... don't be a dumbass, if you're doing this on a bong make sure that there is no fungus or anything funky on the walls. If there is..... too late, you're a dumbass already. Keep your water clean and the resulting resins will be great smoke. If you let your water sit for days I personally would only use it for nail seasoning unless you enjoy smoking mold spores.

...... for me, even at it's worst it's a valuable commodity. And I bet that most people throw it away. :-/

Wasn't gooey until I heated it back up to 105ish on a water bath, I had to heat it up otherwise it was like shatter pure sap. I got 95% of it off, the problem was my method of scraping.

I ate .75g of claim with crappy results, I am going to try again down the line, for now the claim is just going to get stored. Any tips on storing claim?

heat one end of a glass straw with a torch and suck out the last thin little layer in dabs directly from the pyrex dish. if you still can't get every last bit redissolve it in alcohol and save the alcohol to add to your next wash instead of bothering to get every fiddling bit dried and collected. it's more hassle than it's worth in my opinion.

Where would I find a glass straw? And yeah thats what I ended up doing, just added it to the next batch. I need to find a better pyrex dish for reclim, the cureved edge on the pie dish makes it impossible to get it all.

some head shops sell so called, "nectar collectors or honey badgers" which are straws made for this purpose. i think they are overpriced though so i buy mine from dharma glass which is a local company that sells glass drinking straws for fancy matte and chai and whatnot. i usually pay around 8$. i imagine they would be online if you can't find any locally. if you do buy one i suggest a. you buy one that has an angle bent in it, and b. put a small filter in the end you suck on, i use a bit of unbleached coffee filter rolled up or sometimes a piece of bud if i don't have filters handy. this will prevent red hot oil from hitting the back of your throat which is rare, but trust me after the first time you will not want to repeat it, haha.

good luck finding pyrex that doesn't have those curved edges, all of them i've EVER seen are more or less like that.

Yep, after you spend an hour trying to collect every drop out of a container only to realize all that effort amounted to a single dab or so you probably won't want to ever bother again.

I have polished my scraping methods, I get about 90% of the reclaim, a little gets left around the curve so I just use a nug and get as much off as I can then clean it for next use.

You could also just swab the remainder with a 100% pure cotton ball soaked in iso, this will get the pyrex totally clean, then let the cotton dry completely and vape it up.

I don't have a vaporizer currently that I could put cotton into, just my wax pen and oil rig.

^^good idea grokit ...I have some material for cleaning build-up stains on metals which is cotton ball like but made from stainless steel instead, next time I will try cutting off a piece small enough to fit in my wand & give that a go.

As mentioned......seeing 100% is kind of ridiculous. Many have tried most give up. The cost and effort of reclaiming comes to a point. Re dissolving and adding to a later batch is the closest you can get to total efficiency. I use a straw because I get pure flavor of whatever it is versus the taste I get from winterized reclaim. Anything already called vaped goes in the reclaim jar for later winterization . (even winterized already used errl goes back for re processing. winterizing it again removes the by products of shitty coils and environmental contaminants that may have occurred between use and consumption.)

I use flexible safety razor blades, they get in the corners real nice. I've also seen what looks like a dabber with silicone tips meant for scraping oil off of glass.

After a few experiments, I've found a flat(slight bowl shape) wand screen works well for a final clean up after scraping..lay the screen down flat then push down firmly while sliding screen over the surface so the oils collect in the mesh, didn't have to use alcohol but a little would make this easy process even easier.

I have used both large kitchen type told of this style for working with big batches, and the tiny dabber ones. they are okay but personally I don't like them. the silicon isn't stiff enough, you won't be able to pull that last little bit out, which was the original thread question. For less stable stuff it's alright, but the silicon protrudes past the metal it's wrapped around and leaves a flexible edge.....too flexible in my opinion, and lacking the hard edge a metal tool has. Plus, although silicon is heat resistant, you can't really take a touch to it and I often heat my tool to make gathering the oil easier.

Freeze the dish........... 1/2 hour in the freezer should be enough for it to roll off the glass. Use a round dish. use flexible razor blades. Safety razors can be pushed into some pretty tight spaces. The utility blades tend to be too stiff. Silicone scrappers are real helpfull. You could also line your dish with parchment paper. just peel the good stuff off when purged.

93gc40,
What works amazingly every time for me is a silicone spatula cut at a 45 degree angle, I can squeegee up at least 99% if I'm careful. Helps if you warm up the dish to 100-150°F too.
