Illinois Makes Applications Available For Patients, Caregivers, And Dispensaries

On Friday, it was announced that applications for patients, caregivers, and dispensaries are now available in the state of Illinois, specifically on the website: mcpp.illinois.gov They won't be accepted until September 2nd for those with last names beginning with A-L. :brow: Those with last names beginning with M-Z will have to wait until November 2nd.

The one thing that worries me is that you need to have an "established relationship" with the recommending doctor. Check out the application form for the recommending physician. If your regular doctor doesn't go for it, you're going to have to wait ( and of course, fork out extra cash) to "establish a relationship" with a sympathetic doctor. I could be wrong, but I don't think my Dr. will go for it. Perhaps my specialist (gastroenterologist) will be more sympathetic.

With luck, we should see the first dispensaries open in early 2015.

I've got my first appointment today at Good Intentions clinic in Chicago! They charge a $159 fee, but for what they include, it's worth it. The law in Illinois is by FAR the strictest in the country. I even have to be fingerprinted, get a criminal background check, etc. They also talk to your regular doctor and send them the necessary forms to see if he/she will approve of it. If your regular doctor doesn't go for it, they will refer you to a sympathetic physician. :D

They've been open for more than a year now, but since things moved slowly here in Illinois (applications not accepted till this Sept), I decided to wait until now to apply. The law has been in effect since January, but dispensaries aren't expected to open until at least January, 2015. Since that's only a few months away now, I decided to get the ball rolling. More later on how it went!

EDIT: Just came back from my initial appointment at Good Intentions. It's run by 3 nice ladies in the Wicker Park neighborhood. This session lasted less than 30 minutes. I filled out lots of paperwork, had a consultation, etc. They will now send the necessary paperwork to my primary Doctor. If he doesn't approve it, the clinic will contact my gastroenterologist . If that fails, they provide a referral to a Cannabis friendly physician.

The next visit will involve a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and having a photo taken for the ID card. This is all included in the initial fee and they do ALL the paperwork for you. The only downer about the visit was when I asked when they think the first dispensaries will open in Illinois. The response was pretty much what I expected: 5-12 months. :(
