I can see the earlybird/plain ss models being released by sept/oct, and then (if everything goes smoothly with the ss models) the ti/colored models rolling out in time for black friday

"Here’s an update for you from the ‘Grasshopper Vaporizer’ team:

1 new Announcement:

Hey Everyone,

We’re here with the August 15th update. The Team continues to make solid progress on the last few hurdles before the final version is fully complete. Over the last 15 days, we’ve finished some necessary revisions on the circuit boards, solved some problems that testing has revealed, received our production springs, and spent a lot of time working with our manufacturers.

Extensive testing of the Grasshopper circuitry using our custom control software showed that we needed to make a few small changes to our circuit boards. Revisions on large boards are often easy changes because space is much less of a constraint. But the circuit boards inside the Grasshopper are just 10mm in diameter, meaning small changes can be challenging to implement. We are happy to say that these changes were completed and submitted for manufacture.

The first batch of production springs arrived earlier this week. These aren't too exciting to look at, but they were a challenge to design and we’re happy to finally have them in stock. A picture is shown below. We also received photos of battery production from our sourcing agent in China. He paid a visit to ensure the quality of manufacturing and workplace safety. We were pleased to get a positive report back, and we’re awaiting the first batch of production batteries which are scheduled to arrive later this month. Pictures included below.

We expected to receive the first batch of rear-end parts including the Dial, Rear Sleeve, and Pen Clip before the 15th, but our manufacturer had some trouble with the spring tempering and temperature dial indicator tick marks. In their first run, the Pen Clips deformed too much when heat-treated to give them a spring temper. Spring tempering is a process which makes metal “springy”, and is needed to make the clip durable enough to withstand repeated flexing. Our manufacturer is working to solve this problem using a few advanced techniques. Additionally, the tick marks found on the temperature adjustment dial were designed to be machined, but this is proving to be very slow for production. The process is being adjusted to be done with laser etching at the preference of the manufacturer. We are waiting to hear back from them with the results, so we can decide if laser etching is a suitable alternative.

We’re still expecting to begin shipping in Late September. Thanks for checking in, and we’ll be back with another update on September 1st.

The Grasshopper Team"

They will be busting their asses to get the earlybird ss model out by the end of september. Then the ss models will go into full-blown production and distribution, while the ti model is not only finalized but also colorized. In other words, these guys still have a LOT of shit to do to stay on schedule for the holidays!

Probably next year if you ask me, I don't think they stated a retail price yet, I could be wrong and missed it though...

I really believe that at least the ss model will be available for the holidays, definitely online but also hopefully in stores. I would think this has to be a make-or-break kind of goal in the zenhopper team's mind.

Considering how long this product has taken to come to market, what do you think the consumer tolerance level will be if it goes through the same kind of growing pains as say, the Cloud (now the EVO) has had to go through, and those growing pains is very likely considering that this typically happens with any new product, especially product that breaks new ground by pushing the envelope of what was previously available.

You guys who have provided monies to see this product come to fruition have been extremely patient with the delays, but I do think it wise to expect these kinds of growing pains when it finally is released and I hope that the GH team will take this into consideration and provide special treatment to the early adopters, at least for after the 1st year that the vape becomes available.

All I want is for them to honor that warranty, I would also like to see an upgrade plan like with the Firewood but thats more of a hope then a make or break for me, would be nice though...

It sounds like you guys think that whatever they end up releasing won't be a finished product. I am hoping for the opposite, that they get this right the first time out of the gate and hit the ground running.

If they do, this will justify all of the the delays in releasing this product. It just seems to me that these guys are pretty thorough and detail-oriented, so I think they have a good chance here. They're stated repeatedly that the design is one that takes precision machining of tiny interlocking parts, which only leaves room for firmware not hardware adjustments. So the initial product release is make or break all the way.

It's not a matter of a "finished" product. The Cloud was a finished product when it was released.

It's just that ANY product, being a vaporizer or anything else that pushes the envelope as far as existing technology goes, that there is no way in hell that they can get it right the first time out of the box. It takes a year or more of a multitude of people using the product to find it's weak points so that they can be fixed and ironed out.

Beta testing "can" exist before a product is released to the general public if it is being made by a long standing company who has successfully been in business for awhile and can afford, through future economy of scales, to do this beta testing prior to release but even then, products still typically go through their growing pains.

But a product from a start-up company is going to have to rely on early adopter consumers to do their beta testing for them, and therein lies the rub and expectations really need to be adjusted a bit...........in my humble opinion.
