Discontinued Elevape SV

Yea having the magnet come off the first day does not instill confidence I would agree. But I think they should save some time and money and just get rid of that detail. Four less holes, no rare earth magnets and no one putting tiny drops of glue and setting the washers.

I fail to see the difference of meaning between these two sentences:

- having a unit that is not how it's supposed to be when brand new is no biggie
- I don't think it's the end of the world that one magnet on one of the attachments fell off

But I'm not looking for any argument, my comment was probably the result of my own frustration regarding this vape and I shouldn't have made it in the first place. I'll unwatch this thread and will try to figure out what to do with my dysfunctional, potentially unhealthy and therefore expensive piece of metal.

I sincerely hope all you soon to be SV owners will be satisfied with your acquisition, too bad for me I am not, really.

Because there is no difference depending on the degree of the issue:shrug:You asked a question, and I answered saying it wasn't the end of the world...

No a lid missing a magnet is no huge deal in my book, but it's not like I'm stoked about it. even if it's not 100% perfect it will clearly be fixed easily. It obviously depends too what degree the unit is "not how it's supposed to be". An issue with the main unit would warrant concern in my book, an easily replaceable lid does not

I like that you argumentative statement with "I don't want to argue"Lol I have no desire to argue about this

why use they glue to fix magnets... they also could screw them in the lid... one reason i quit combustion was because its not healthy but i also don t want to vaporize paint or glue or something other unhealthy stuff... and to fix this issues shouldn t be to difficult... or...? i didn t get it there are a lot of vaporizers like this... i also don t like the pax... i had faith in the elevape sv... but now i don t know... but i would say it would be great if ipuff and joe can fix this issues... because i think the sv has some potential...

You guys can take this "non-argument" to PMs if you like, but don't have it here.

Is it just the glue you're worried about? I am not sure why they went with the glue they did, but they have assured me it will never off gas and is 100% health oriented. I am not sure where the claim of being unhealthy came from a couple posts back? This is an isolated issue and the first one to happen here as far as I know, so I don't think it will be an ongoing issue. But time will tell if it happens again. I do believe Elevape when they say it's 100% safe though, but to each their own:2c:

@Stu you got it, my bad!

so if they tested that the glue doesn t offgas (they own a labor where they can test it or do they paid one and was it tested for vaporizing conditions) or isn t bad for your health IF VAPORIZED they should show us a proof (labor test or scientific paper...) and also the paint which is rubbing of and was dicussed earlier i am concerned about it... and yeah they are a company they have to make profit... if they would say its bad and have to change all units that could be a serious problem so they tell you the glue is ok... and the coating paint is rubbing off so that the customer could know the unit is new is in my eyes bs... but its a relativ new unit and it is normal that there are some flaws... so i hope they take our advise and find good solutions... and sorry it should be common sense that glue, plastic, paint, coatings rubbing off in a vaporizer is a bad idea to use... but this is not the first vape with issues... i dont get it really... maybe fc members should join and show them how a proper vape have to be...

Lol I feel pretty confident this is a proper vape... I am not sure how you can say they are lying so they don't have to change anything to be healthier when there is zero evidence of anything unhealthy, or why you would say a small ring rubbing off in the exact spot on every unit is bs?... Everything you mentioned has been explained, and I'm sure you could ask ipuff for proof of the glue. It's not like they are hiding anything that I know of. I don't think every vape company is lying about health issues to make profit:2c:

I am not sure what "you don't get" about this "improper vape". I can't take this anymore... I'm out of here

@Shit Snacks
I received my ESV today as well and my Serial # is 44. I thought that was a bit weird too. My package was not wrapped with plastic either, but I didn't think too much of it.

If you speak to Joe, let me know what he has to say about the Serial Numbers. It was my understanding we were getting ones hot off the assembly line, which would make ours over 70, as I recall seeing pictures in this thread with a serial number over 70.

I was in touch with VaporNation quite a bit and also received expedited shipping as well. I'd like to see if anyone else received theirs today and what their serial numbers are.

Both magnets were attached and the unit looks brand new. Bummer that you have some defects on a new vape.

I won't test mine until tomorrow so no feedback yet on how it functions.

Hey guys, so it turned green and i pull it off the wall. One thing thats odd as well is the micro usb doesnt go all the way in teh port on the elevape, it only goes in like a third of the way?

Anyway so i then have it sit for an hourish, and then hook it up to my computer with the app. Charging light was orange but i think it is to green now after 10 min or so. But so since the usb doesnt go all the way in, if it moves slightly it becomes unconnected and the light goes off...

I also cant seem to get the app to recognize the device? on PC and it loaded and everything but there is nothing there, no device in the drop down menu and all zeros for everything.

Also regarding the mark to know if its been used or not, there is in fact a slight mark that you cant see in that pic. I will upload another when i get the chance, but across the 3 in the serial number (it begins just before the 3, and then crosses over the screw as well in a circle) there is a light scuff. I only opened it once, is it possible to have one that early? its not like rubbed off totally or anything ofcourse, but it is a mark. there is actually also another mark under the screw on the other side, but not in a circular line like the other, just a sshort slightly diagonal line a little under the screw.

I havent opened it up, or tried loading anything using the default temps just yet, mainly bc i want to set my temps. Im doing other things so i didnt really want to try opening it up now, but all this talk about a potentially returned unit is making me concerned, especially if i use it will i have a harder time replacing it if it is a returned model?

Also the whole serial number thing is suspect, but i dont know if we can say for sure until we here from Joe on the subject....

EDIT: Joe's response should put us all at ease:

"Thank you for choosing the Elevape Smart.
Sorry to hear about the magnet issue , I have already told QC about it , they said it must of been close to a unit and one of the magnets must of pulled it out before the glue cured , and QC didn't catch it . If you like I can send you a replacement, it will not effect the functionality of the unit , the glue we use is food safe but since it is not any close to the vapor path it will not release any vapor any way, so it is safe to use meantime. The reason the serial number is so low because we have held back a few lower serial number units for people that wanted it to collect them, but since we needed to send the units out and didn't have enough to fill the order we didn't want to have you guys with the FC forum to wait, we released them to compete the order to vapor nation.you can rest assured your unit is brand new, WE HAVE NOT HAD A SINGLE UNIT RETURN ;-) WOOT WOOT so there are defiantly no refurbished units out there, units aren't individually shrink-wrapped.
Thanks again for choosing the Elevape.
Contact me if you have any further questions.
HAPPY ELEVAPEING!"

So now i just need to figure out the app issues... And anyone have the same with the micro usb sticking out?

My USB was really tight too at first. I forced it in and it fit snugly. Like other posts I noticed it is getting easier to plug it in as I am playing with it a bit. I would also recommend you try another USB cable if you have another one to see if it could just be a misshapen cord connector.

Late edit: I just noticed the cable that comes with the unit doesn't fit in all the way because if you look at the "jack" and the cable, the adaptor is shallow and the cable has a longer metal fitting so it doesn't go all the way in. I was using an old blackberry cable because its longer and fits in much better.

OK so I decided to try the ESV poolside. I couldn't wait until tomorrow night.

First time vaping EVER by the way.

Some thoughts so far:

I stirred every 3 hits as recommended. Vapor tastes like lemons and herbs in a good way. (Not like the taste of what smells like burnt underwear and flames from hitting a pipe.)

Hits up to #7 very tasty. Hit 7 blew me away and inspired me to give an update.

I don't think it gets any easier than this...vapor on demand, tastes great...only downside there is is the stirring. If that's the worst thing about this vape, other companies have a run for their money.

I'm a believer. On to #8 and bed!

What does this reference to the [missing] shrink wrapping mean exactly?

Remember when baseball cards sets came plastic wrapped and they were considered "factory sealed"?

Same concept; plastic wrap = makes you believe no tampering was done with the product from original manufacturing and it's factory new and not returned , etc.

On to hit #9 and bed for sure.

Thanks, I get that but I still don't understand what joe was trying to say :hmm:

grokit,

Vegas haze

but my momma said
I had the pleasure of dealing with Joe today from ipuffusa. I've deformed my coil pretty badly on one side now and although it still works fairly well, it just isn't performing like it was. When trying to clean the sensor I used the brush a little too roughly, it happened once when it was too dark in the room and once when I was just trying to do it too fast. Joe got back to me very quickly and now I'm also going to purchase one of the new screen replacements since I'm sure I'll need one at some point although not in the very near future since that screen can be cleaned to almost brand new whenever you feel like cleaning it. I've had mine for a couple months now and am still really enjoying it when out and about. I agree that the stirring is not stealth at all but when actually taking a draw I don't think there's anything more stealth. It's just so fast. When i know i need to be super stealth and not have to stir I like to put a very thin layer of very dry flower then some crumble/wax/shatter then add as much flower as I can put in. The concentrate melts into the flower and sort of protects it. The last time I did that was on the golf course and got somewhere between 8-10 solid clouds before I had to stir, so I had that going for me.

Pshh bed, Theresa new toy on the table...

Btw @grokit I believe he means they are not shrink wrapped anyway, so don't think its been opened bc it was never sealed. There are no refurbished units bc it is still too knew and none have been returned.

I did charge it up with my cell phone charger cable, it also stuck out but connected better. It just looks like the Elevape has a really shallow input?

Anyway still doesn't solve my temp setting issues, but I tried it anyway and WOW. Yes this little guy is quite incredible, even with my limited (and unfortunately "in the dark" temp wise) use. Ofcourse like any convection I still need to perfect my hits and stirring methods. I also think I may find a way to get rid of a screen where I can just bc they get clogged so easily. Don't get me wrong this guy is great despite that, I just prefer no screens like in the Indica and T1, though I do use screens in my underdog ofcourse, but I'm still perfecting my draw on that as well (and this is much more consistent than that so far, very low learning curve here). So I'd like to figure out something more like the T1 screen as a sub the top mesh screen somehow, or maybe the bottom? similar to what someone else did (trying to figure out how to do the same for my gf's FlowerMate too, so a trip to the hardware store is nigh).

I also can see about taste, though mine is still brand new. It has that new taste, but it's not an off taste. Not have I had experience with those, and the Elevape has none. I've only run three bowls so I'm sure the new smell will bake out eventually. I am not worried about the glue either, no glue tastes and it is out if the airpath, flush against the outside of the bowl. The taste factor is just one reason I will ofcourse never give up my precious Indica either, as stainless steel just beats aluminum plain and simple. And obviously the Indica's fantastic pure conduction only serves as a compliment to the Elevape's wonderful pure convection. Quick size comparison for you with a black Indica beta:
dMzyaT5.jpg

So the Elevape is a tad shorter but also a tad thicker (doesn't fit in my car door handle like my Indica does unfortunately...), but they are about the same wait? Elevape may be slightly heavier.

Anyway the anodized aluminum on the Elevape, despite not being the best for taste is great to hold, soft but durable and textured finely. Really quite nice. And it stays quite cool in use as well, though I don't know if that would be true if you did a minute straight? Nor do I know if anyone could inhale that much for thsgong to keep the heater active lol, so it shouldn't be an issue at all. I agree the biggest negative right bow is the stirring, but that seems to be a common issue with nearly all pure convection vapes. Hopefully with this modular of a portable, one of us can engineer a nice solution (like were all trying to do with the top screen/screw). I also agree about the lid tightness, even with one magnet. No magnets really keeps it right enough though @chillersnov8p ? Maybe I will take the other magnet out of this lid too, since I have a new fully magnetic one coming soon (nice to have a spare in any case).

Just like I've very successfully done with my Solo and and Indica, the Elevape passed the dog walk test, quick and easy to puff on as I stroll. And on tip of that, it fits more hidden on my hand than the Indica does, so not only discrete in quick puffs, but also tiny size as well!

Anyway, as you can see I'm already pretty happy despite the lid issue, and despite the app issue. So imagine how much better this is gonna get... I feel like I'm going to be able to refer to this along with the Indica as my bread and butter lol, the perfect portable pair! Right now its all Elevape though for time being so I can polish my experience, man this weekend can't get here soon enough...

Well, it's been four weeks with the sv for me now. The members here have covered almost every aspect of the elevape that I've noticed, that I really don't have anything new to contribute.

I can say...my biggest annoyances so far... a) the amount of stirring required in order to ensure an even vape and efficient use of your herbs. We're talking a nice stir literally every 2-4 inhales as has been suggested already. b) not being able to figure out how much juice is left in your battery when out and about. I can now confirm that the Elevape cannot be simultaneously vaped and charged. If it dies on you, you have to leave it charge for a few minutes before being able to take even a couple of decent hits. (I'm so stingy with my mj, that I find I will drain half the battery on one bowl just trying to make sure that I got everything I could out of the plant material!)

Also, before I said that I would probably unscrew the sv once a week to clean it. I still believe that's true for the airpath...but the lid definitely needs to be cleaned at least twice as often! That lid screen gets clogged up uber fast in my opinion. Essentially, I put all three lid screens that came in the package in an iso bath at the same time once a week, and cycle through them for the week. The driptip mouth screen only gets gunked up with dry matter, so although I drop it in the iso bath for good measure, it doesn't really need it. The gunk that ends up building right around the heating coil...A QUICK BLOW WILL DO! I stress that because once again, if I had just taken the advice from this thread, it would've saved me a lot of hassle during cleanings...I think it's best to avoided physically trying to clean around the coil... looks kinda delicate to me. I have a before and after of this specific part of the cleaning process, but I'm not sure how to post pictures yet.

It's been mentioned that the knob that switches temps seems to be the weak link in the overall quality of the product. I agree... The way the thing is built and the simplicity of it makes you feel it'd almost be more appropriate if the elevape was fixed on one temp setting, no knobs. The micro usb slot does seem to be a little too shallow, and I haven't had the guts to try and push the micro usb in there forcefully.

An observation I've made with regards to the stealth factor...The thing doesn't look like a vaporizer, or anything else that would attract attention for that matter...except for one part of it...the mouthpiece! I've had older relatives, who are not aware of my mj use, see it in my hand, and they don't even give it a second glance... the second it's angled so they can see the mouth piece you can see their eye's spark up in a questioning fashion. I'd really love to figure out how I can get a mouth piece that would sit as flush as possible in the sv.

Although volume wise it's tiny, you won't forget it's in your pocket. That part unfortunately hasn't really gotten much better. My friend was asking me to compare the size of the elevape, and I told him it was as if you grabbed a pack of cigarettes and chopped it in half...but chopped it in half in the annoying way.

I'd says that's the extent of the negatives for me.

My SV is number 18, and came with the plastic mouth piece. I actually like the fact that I have one of the earlier production units. I've settled on the temps close to the factory settings...5/10/16. I've dropped the sv on carpet a couple of times, and no problems.

Contrary to many here, I actually like the strong magnets for the lid.... gives me confidence that the lid won't accidentally open. The resulting fading of the black finish on the lid was a little annoying initially...until the new toy phase wore of, and I really don't care now.

So what makes this thing a step above the rest again... Instant heat up time, and almost pure convection! Having the following also gives it major plus points...Micro usb charging (no fucking adapters), quick and ingenious assembly and cleaning process, software upgrades.

Here is why I absolutely love this little thing...

I'm 100% a function over form kinda guy. And I could just imagine the designers of the elevape sitting there during the design phase building this thing from the ground up purely on function...where the resulting form became attractive to me because of its focus on performance.

My friend literally just ordered it online an hour ago. Btw, he said that the vapornation coupon code didn't work for him. He ordered from Canada. Is it only honored in the States?

So now i just need to figure out the app issues... And anyone have the same with the micro usb sticking out?

Try to plug the usb cord a bit deeper in the usb port, I found that if I don't plug it in deep enough, I can't connect to the app, I emailed Joe about this and he told me to give it a firm push, the usb port is very tight in the beginning and will loosen up a bit after a while, wich it does.
Also, go back to the download page for the app now and then and download it again, like mentioned before here, it seems that they are working on the app, since I downloaded it two days ago I get much better battery estimates, not yet perfect but much improved.

on a side note, what if we put something like a little metal or glas ball in the oven, with the herbs,
if we shake it mflb style, the herbs will get stirred?

As per the lid screen clogging. I think rotating the lid does help a bit. Not to keep it clean but to help even out the browning. My dirty screens always have one spot that is less dirty. So it seems plausible that by twisting the lid you are rotating that less dirty spot over the load. I'll admit this is a stretch but it can't hurt either. A fresh screen is the best solution but not always an option.
