I am confused.
Folks are talking about "new replaceable filters".
All my VGs are old.
I have replaced the filters in all... easily.
oldvsnew500.jpg

First you need to determine if you have the new style top with a user replaceable filter. In the older VG classic and Handcarved products (manufactured before July, 2011), the filters are not removable. If your eyelet is round and not octagonal then you CAN NOT remove the filter from your VaporGenie. If you have an old style top, you can only remove soot by the vacuum cleaner method explained below.
My Classic from 2010 has a non removeable filter top. The non removeable filters don't come with a double loop retaining ring. In July of 2011 they changed their designs.

My classic filter is pretty tainted, very gray and orange, its been through loads of abuse from new users and careless users.

Are you speaking of the older tops from pre 2011?

I find the newer tops with replaceable filters make combustion more difficult. Otherwise there isn't anything different in performance.

yep. older tops.

vitolo........provide link to replacing the filter in the old style top?
thanks

Salutations Vitolo,

Hello VG family So I am stuck between getting a handcarved VG which I'm loving so much or a beautiful lotus which lately has been haunting my thoughts?? I love my classic VG so its a tough decision. I also wanted to know if anyone tried fitting a lotus on a VG stem/pipe?? I have no bong or pipe so if i get the lotus I'd just get the cap I'm so broke right now ever since my phone cracked :(:bang:

I see.
I am sooooo modern a guy, that I did not realize there was an older version.

This page: http://www.vaporgenie.com/vacuum-method tells about getting it extra clean, and links you to replacement filter tops for 25 dollars.

I learned something new today!

I just want a glass VG!

my genie granted me 3 wishes.

I asked for 3 more hits.

Well played.....what's the rule 'only thing you can't wish for is more wishes?'. Like the old Army rule, 'always save your last order form to order more order forms.....'.

Only different.

Thanks for the smile.

Why? Why do I still use my vapor genie? I have other great vaporizers that require no work, and I can simply sit back relax and vaporize.

I finally sat down and thought for a while: When do I use my VG?... I use it when, I'm doing another task that requires attention; I can take a hit and put the VG down for 10 minutes and not have my herbs cook. I use it around the house, from when I'm reading the news paper to repairing a broken step. Unlike other hand held vapes, the VG always gives me dark even color ABV. There are other vapes out that can say they do the same thing, but they're double the price of the VG.

The VG is not my daily driver, but it seems to always work itself into my weekley rotation without fail.

If you like very dark avb and your looking for an electronic vaporizer you could give the Vapor Genie Volta a try. kind of a unique sweet power on demand(only when you want a hit) type vape.

Go ahead an check out the Volta.

Yes i do and like it a lot. Even though i now have way to many vape choices the Volta still gets quite a bit of use. Check out the volta thread if you haven't yet. It's a good vape at a great price and Dan and the crew at Vaporgenie will take good care of you if the need arise after your purchase.

Salutations everybody,

It may be time for a brief udate, to report some possibly unresolvable issue(s) experienced with my Xikar 585Bk Ressource, acquired nearly 14 months ago (pictured on page 108). I gave it frequent tank purges on a regular basis but i guess even the real Vector model wouldn't have garanteed to last much longer anyway, not to mention the physical layout fails to protect its delicate parts as efficiently as in completely sealed designs.

The large Slick YYG-805 never worked as an option and hence i'm left with my Slick MF208 "gun" unit as a result. This one does provide an integral hood, though i must refill constantly to keep pressure at just about the right level for dim-red puck pre-heat sessions that won't also cause the rest to burn... Unfortunately the MF208 gets too hot having that hood so close to a flame: once i'm done with pre-heating i often wish i had another, a cold lighter, to perform actual vaporisation!...

:ko:

Remembering how much space was used for an electric + FogBong scenario i find myself compelled to invest in the power of fire, again, for a butane lighter offering a larger butane tank and a proper application range if such a thing can found, in such particular context.

@Egzoset have you seen the "Fujuma platinum gun metal" torch at puffitup? I REALLY liked that for my vapman, maybe it'd do good for preheating your stone? I don't know your exact process but just an idea!

Salutations KidFated,

...have you seen the "Fujuma platinum gun metal" torch at puffitup?

I have now, it's the Obelix shape... Except no red mustache.

:D

The "Fujima" lighter might solve my tank capacity problem and maybe even the overheat issue as it appears to be featured with 3 ventilation slots per side, right behind a chain-ring attached to its cover. I may not succeed locating it in my remote Canadian city but our brief exchange allowed me to identify/visualise those items, hoping i'll remember the next time i go shopping around...

I REALLY liked that for my vapman, maybe it'd do good for preheating your stone?

Given enough options i might as well pick the VapMan (etc.), euh... But that would mean i moved to a major metropole.

It's true my tank's capacity feels inconvenient but the loss of a "soft" yellow (Xikar) flame caused the worst negative impact, actually, because combustion occurs faster and hence more frequently. An explanations follows...

Here's my prefered torch lighter:

It sold for 10 $ at Canadian Tire and still functions so far.

I don't know your exact process but just an idea!

As i must have previously mentioned the sphere on my modded VG pipe would seem too small to sustain the more intense fire of my other torch lighter, while working with this smaller "gun" unit means it needs to be set for maximum thrust with a sufficiently filled butane tank. Ideally i'd seek a model somewhere in between.

Relatively to ritual, at 1st the bowl is empty so i can torch it red-hot to my heart's content - or until i smell wood. Usually 3 or 4 shots will do, then i load my pipe's bowl and switch to "yellow" flame if available, if not then i simply try to use additional caution because once there's heat stored then my flame's role becomes secondary. So, using a torch again (after the pre-heat phase) causes scorches to multiply... Consequently i don't really need another lighter, just a bigger tank so i can acquire the required torch-manipulation skills - but they don't sell halves so i think a different product with a large tank and a slightly higher (but yet comparably modest) output would serve me best.

A tad more power for 2 ~ 3 times longer is what my jet torch fails to provide, or i could as well find necessary to find another platform with no wood to burn, etc. Though ultimately i should be aiming for lower temperatures inside the core...

So I am a new owner of a classic oak VG after having a shipping debacle with my Lotus. I needed something for this weekend and the local brick and mortar had these for $60 which I thought was fair. As I have seen from posts here, this takes a little learning curve to get right and I am fine with that. My question is this- if I accidentally combusted just once, is the VG compromised as far as flavor? I was having big trouble getting a hit with visible vapor unless I really got the flame to go right in the bowl, I think it probably touched the filter and I got a really harsh hit with not much visible vapor and when I opened the bowl a small visp of smoke and a very dark charred spot in my material.

It's strange... I got a few really good hits at first, but when I had a look at the ABV it was really still yellow with quite a bit of green left in it. I then wanted to try and get some really dark ABV like my Pax creates and tried about 5 really long hits with nothing. The pipe- wood and all- was getting so hot I couldn't even hold it anymore. I think the lacquer was starting to get soft it was so damn hot, but my ABV was not even close to being brown and I couldn't get a hit. The only time I could get a hit after it was half vaped was to really let the lighter flame go all the way into the cap.

How do you guys get good extraction from this? Maybe just need to practice a bit more? The person at the store told me a jet lighter was probably the best for this type of vaporizer, but I think I am having better luck with a standard Bic lighter. Mostly just worried about ruining the filter, which I don;t really understand how that is possible. Isn't it ceramic? How can touching the lighter to it ruin it?

Finer grind, more surface area covered. Don't move the lighter, just rest it on the metal lip hole horizontally, the flame should be at a perfect spot. Ensure the yellow of the flame only goes a quarter inch down the hole. You should still see the tip of your flame.

You're first heating the filter then vapor production will really start, I think after 7 seconds the filter should be hot enough to give a cloud.

May help demonstrate usage.

EDIT:

Just know vapor will keep coming a few seconds after removing the flame.
Stop using the Bic, it will ruin the ceramic filter, I recommend a torch or piezoelectric lighter.

The filter isn't to stop the flame its meant to get hot, not be torched heavily unless needed to be clean or get sooty from soft flame lighters touching it, or soot from Bics.

I said it above but you're really just heating the filter first then the it will get hot enough to help and do most of the vaping.
