I am back to:

Domed screen
Grind my herb a few turns - I now use about .14 grams, but don't measure, I just average how many loads per gram, etc
Turn Solo on to 5, let it heat up on it's own
loosely pack the gong
Put Solo onto GonG
Let heat for about 30-60 seconds
Draw for 45 seconds or so
Exhale
Wait 1-2 minutes
Repeat
Turn up to 6
Two pulls at 6, then times out, could probably get a couple more pulls of wispy vapor after that

I am not so much a visual vaporist, but I do go by how it feels in my chest, and like an abundance of terpenes all at once.

I don't like to continue to vape after the flavor is gone, but still do it, particularly since I vape mainly at night, and one of the reasons I use cannabis is for insomnia.

You'll need one of these adapters .
https://www.planetvape.ca/pvhegong-high-efficiency-gong.html

It's an 18mm , it'll fit your Evo HT , which is also 18mm .
If you have WT that have 14mm , then get one of those too .

There's a fellow FC member that makes glass adapters for the Solo too .
check out Jodaglass .

hope that helps
Thx for that info. It is very appreciated

Will you help me once I get it
I'm such a nol mom just stuck in her water tool ways

Takes a while for me to pull the trigger and blow the cash

ebay solo came, just as the one from puffitup did, same box, packing ect, except much cheaper.

Still going through the first day with her, but so far i like the new style. I feel like the extra airflow has made the clouds just a tad less full. Not getting the huge inhales i was on the last one, but i prob just need to use this and master this one.

I keep hearing a lot about this unit, and almost entirely all good things. I hear for a portable the taste is GREAT! and really can't be beat! This is at the top of my list for my next Vape purchase. Especially since vapor nation will match the $139 price!!! About time to go cash in the change jar's!!

I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere in the biblical like length of this thread... But I was wondering how the Solo Cup compares to the Vapir NO2 ? I own an No2 (My first vape) I noticed they seem similar in styles of appearance and I assume work more or less the same why... I'm sure the solo cup wins on taste having the glass straws/steams! But what about the other features on the cup ?

my solo turns on and shows its charged, but wont heat up... the heat light doesn't come on????

any suggestions? loose wire maybe?

I bought it new off ebay less than 2 years ago so it should be covered under warranty but I don't really want to send it to Canada. I'd rather fix it myself if anyone thinks they know what might be wrong?

thanks!

My Solo Started Working Again!!!! Woot... I don't know why but somehow I think it was over charged? And not starting the heat cycle? But now that the battery naturally went down a little it starts the heat cycle again...so happy it working!!!!!

I find that a good heat soak can produce clouds that rival my VXL Cloud and E-Nano. Try slowing down your draw.

I also have a vapir2 and solo. I may be biased cause the vapir2 was my first vape, but I actually like the vapir2 better. I get thicker more consistent clouds with less draw restriction. I do like the solo, it has better build quality, slightly better taste, and is smaller. IMO you can't go wrong with either one.

Hey guys! so the past two times i have used my solo the thing has completely toasted the bowl. And the battery is dying really quickly. I usually vape on level 4 with leafs, so i know how it usually cooks the bowl. The last bowl i even turned down to level 3 and it still got to a black color after a few hits. Is there anything i can do? its only about 2 weeks old. I have a thermometer that i used to use for my nitro powered r/c car, i think it is infrared, but this is "mostly a convection vape"? so where would i measure the temps at.

edit- okay so i put the solo on level 3 after it sat for the night. I put my "micro temp" gauge about an inch from the top of the solo and took the temp and it went up to 420 degrees then the gauge read "hot". So I'm not sure what temp it is but its too high for this gauge.....

I don't have a solo, but for what it's worth, do not trust any temperature reading on those no-contact thermometers unless you're measuring something larger than 1 square foot

Think of those IR therms as an "average" meter - reading the average temperature over a large area (larger area the farther you are from the object) - think of it like a 1-pixel FLIR camera.

Let's just say I've tried and failed to use these on my 3D printers to measure a HOT extruder nozzle running at a controlled temperature and my readings would be off by as much as 50c!

Thats crazy! i knew that these things are not precise at all but 50c is a LOT.

Then again, i'm measuring something less than 1/4 inch (6.4mm) in diameter, so I don't expect them to measure accurately. Glass can also affect readings - found that out when trying to measure my print-bed heater

okay well I packed the bowl half way and on level 2 it took two hits to get the contents the light brown and after 4 hits it was dark brown. I usually go light brown and then pack a new bowl. How dark can the bowl get on a correctly functioning solo on level 2? i would post an image but i have no idea how.

It should Not get to black color on level 3 or 4 , even after two sessions .
There were some reports about Solos running Hot ; reaching temp 7
in 30 seconds ; one even posted it combusted with the Solo . It was also
newly purchased fwiw .

You should exercise your warranty and get a properly functioning unit .
Sooner the better ...

I have two Solos and they consistently differ (I think) - one seems (subjective!) hotter by about two levels and that's when I compare them using the same source vegetable material - so not sure there's one universal correct answer to your question?

Browning is definitely variable according to the material you are vaping IMHO even when using a fixed temperature setting and the same packing/inhalation technique on the same Solo. Some batches I've seen seem to go darker than others after the same amount of heat exposure. Why might that happen?

<speculation>
Q: What component of plant material goes dark when it's heated?
A: The colour change during vaping is (AFAIK) largely a result of "caramelization" of residual plant polysaccharides (which is what the main cell wall component of plants, cellulose is - try vaping pure organic cotton wool - it goes brown!) and sugars (and carbohydrates which break down into sugars when heated). It's what happens when you make caramel for creme caramel by heating sugar - if you're into creme caramel.

If you have early picked/poorly cured material, I'm guessing it could have lots of plant sugars left, so will brown faster than low carbohydrate material.

(Not suggesting it's the problem but I've always wondered whether some less than honest dealers sometimes add cheap things to make material heavier, stickier and shinier so it looks more potent to the untrained eye? EG Caster sugar is very fine and shiny and sure is cheaper than weed.)

It can actually be a lot more than that. We've been down this road a couple of times now. IR Pyrometers are just light meters with restricted viewing angles. All it can do is count photons in the sensitivity range (wavelength). An "averaging meter" is a good analogy, I think.

The rub is, while all stuff glows in IR, the hotter the brighter, there's another HUGE factor. The material and it's surface limit the heat's ability to escape. Different materials at the same temperature are 'seen' as different temperatures. It's not like on TV or the movies.

The missing bit is called "the emissivity factor", here's a chart:
http://www.raytek.com/Raytek/en-r0/IREducation/EmissivityTableMetals.htm

Notice that, for instance, Stainless (like the cup) can be .1 to .8 subject to alloy (small factor) and surface (larger). That means the same piece of metal, at the same temperature can read up to 8 times hotter or colder. That's degrees K, but it's a HUGE factor.

Some of the better Pyrometers let you set "E", the general default is .95. Once correctly calibrated (proper E factor) they can be pretty accurate, but it's not a 'grab and go' kinda thing.

Go my intuition. Forget number values in this case find your sweet spot.
For me it's 3 dry and 4 wet.
Were all different!

I would take a thermo coupler and a computerized device to obtain a accurate reading (around $7,500 http://www.ecd.com/products/supermolegold/index.asp) however were talking about a $140 device for medicating!

no2- super meh

vape exhale evo- meh

Arizer Solo- The best.
What is meh

I keep reading that the solo will not be so great next to my exhale - that maybe I will be disappointed.

I started with the pax and the exhale but I do feel like the solo may perform like a mini exhale

Am I reaching too high lol because these devices are really fun but really expensive. I do like the ideA of backups becuz rite now my pax is getting fixed and I had no option but to use the beast last weekend.

The more I use this device the more I like it. Finding small loads working best. Plenty of air flow and plenty of clouds.

I think you're a long way from the first to utter those magic words. That's, I think, a very strong feature. It adapts to individual owners so very well. Taking use advice here as Gospel (as opposed to experimenting) can be a trap I think. I think it's important for us to share techniques and encourage each other to experiment to find what 'fits their pistol'.

The Solo is great. It's been my favorite portable for a while.

It will not, however perform like your VXL and you shouldn't expect it to. It's a battery powered portable and cannot supply the energy needed to get "A/C powered desktop" type hits.

I think the combo of a VXL and a Solo make a great "first 2 vaporizers" choice.
