@PPN Are they AW batteries? Are you using the stock charger? It may be a safe bet to replace them before something bad happens. I am always making sure that I put the batteries in the charger with the positive end up. ( just my paranoia) I am charging frequently and try to pay attention to heat in the charger and battery. Maybe they were drained so much that when charging caused this heat.

I had no luck with the Herc using the stock batteries. I can remember @THC SCIENTIFIC posting that the stock batteries could even be damaged by the power-hungry Herc SR-71. ( not sure if that applies to the 74).

absolutely --

If you don't have the core (recommended at any cost ! -- for me -- allowing variable voltage until iris ??)
yet THC SCIENTIFIC is on pt !
u needed without a doubt the aw ins - is the only set-up that will keep it consistent at 7.4v -- at least for some time ------- the other batteries just may give u the first hit (if your lucky) then thats it ----- just heats the oil n wastes it into the reclaim --

FOR LONG TERM SR74 USE THE CORE IS THE TOOL ---- on the go --- keep those AW imp batteries fully charged with fully charged backups ready to swap as soon as the hit doesn't seem correct !

best of luck my friends

Can your coils on an sr74x become over saturated? I got another set of aw's to power my herc I've been having problems with. It is now heating consistently but it isn't producing clouds, very weak pulls instead. When I heat it with the mouthpiece unscrewed I can see the tip of the rod bubbling but little vapor releasing? Do I need to quit adding and Burn off what is in there? I've run probably a gram and a half through in the last week.
Also, how do I properly heat this from cold to get a good draw? I'm laying on the button until it cycles off then take about a 5 second cool down before holding the button again. I usually have to do this three or four times to get anything and sometimes 8 to 10 cycles to produce any substantial, but not huge, vapor. I've only had a few draws that have been HUGE. I do feel like I'm getting closer and I am tempted to buy the core.

Sounds like you have the coil saturated and oil on top of the coil so plenty in there to vape, you should be good to go if you are producing vapor and see bubbling. If you have fully charged batteries you should be getting good vapor with BHO concentrates in 3-5 seconds and seriously thick vapor just a few seconds later. You sure shouldn't need to hold on the button until you hit a timeout and there should be no cool down before you start taking your hit, only cool down after your hit.

Did you see 215z's reply to your post last Wednesday?
I've noticed my coil above the rod many times. I push it down with a toothpick and its works better. Can I use two coils to keep it from sliding?
If you have pushed your coil down with a toothpick a few times already, you haven't given your coil enough of a squishing. I used a 160lb vice and my coils don't budge. Okay, I didn't really, I just got high and put it between two quarter dollar coins, and stepped on them with the ball of my feet. Works good.

Did you squish the coils? 2 coils won't stop them from sliding, it will just double your frustration if you don't squish the coils first. It sounds to me like your coil is probably still being sucked up the tube as you draw and so you aren't getting much vapor as there's no seal. This will make for weak / no hits and a lot of oil into your reclaim chamber! The answer is to take your coil out and squish it between 2 quarters so it has an interference fit as you put it in the chamber. Push the coil all the way to the bottom. You should now get good hits every time.

Thanks for the reply. I did squish the coil it isn't sliding at all anymore. I am not getting results even close to what you are talking about. I've never been able to get vapor I would consider seriously thick.

I'm taking a break from the hercules. I've spent all weekend trying to get it going and I can't make any progress. I just attached a 3.7 kiss cart and got twice the pull I've gotten with hercules. I wonder if my rod is defective? A lot of comments have mentioned they get pulls right away and mine takes forever to heat up and produces very little. I removed the rod to inspect it and the entire part that sits inside the chamber/coil is black. Is my rod burnt out? I wish I could get this to work like you guys that are having success.

@Beanporn I think you need a CORE! That should let you dial your Hercules in. DO NOT GIVE UP ON THE HERCULES! IT IS A FREAKIN BEAST! Once you get it right, you will be in awe....I have an SR-74X and I LOVE IT...MY GOD DO I LOVE IT! Don't give up my friend, you will get it right and YOU WILL LOVE IT. Shatter+Herc=

@Beanporn can you take a picture of your upper chamber? Rod placement seems to be the biggest boo boo with the Herc, followed by batteries. The entire white band or black band of your rod should be visible, without the lower chamber attached.

I removed the coil and fired the rod until all of the black was gone. That was cool. It was also helpful in letting me understand how this heats. I feel like I have been using it wrong. I hold the button down the whole time and draw like a cigar. I am getting almost nothing. But after seeing how late the rod starts to glow, I feel like a pulsing method once fully heated would be best.
My rod is white again and my batteries are charging, they should be done any minute. Once they're done I'm gonna try the herc again with my new perspective on how this heats I hope for a better experience.

All Sr series Hercs require Aw Imr batteries to function properly.

That's why I just ordered 4xAW imr and the Core, I will be ready now!

Do you think my stock batteries are unusuable now? (I tried them a bit with my Kiss cart and it was fire up...

@Beanporn, do not give up my friend.
I just charged (2) 18350 700Mah AW IMR batteries from W9 tech in my Nitecore charger. I wanted to show you how great the reward when you get your Hercules set right.
I am using the (2) stock batteries on a full charge with my hammer top head. I loaded about 1/4 of the shatter below. saturating the coil first like so many helpful people already mentioned was important, then I loaded another .2-.25

This is the result of letting it heat up for 5 seconds and taking a 5 second draw.

Here is a cooling down hit so you can see what I'm using.

The Hercules is no joke my friend. You get crazy clouds and it tastes ggggrrrreat!
You should send your Herc to G have him fix it and be done with it so you can enjoy the hell out of it. Imagine the clouds I'll get with it with the CORE!
I wanted to show you what the Herc was capable so you don't write it off.
I do not know what the issue with your Herc is, but I bet G does and can fix your issues.

Buy the way I've been writing this post for like a half an hour.......

My results are improving but still not there yet. I am working the button more instead of just laying on it for cycles at a time. I am not getting the clouds you show, my hits look more like your cool down hits. I am going to load another .25 or so and see if I can produce a cloud.

I'm having steady improvement but still no huge clouds. I think am getting closer. I am finding that the screen inside the mouthpiece clogs frequently and affects my ability to pull a strong draw. I clean the screen with iso but it clogs again soon after.
Did you guys get clouds right away or did you saturate your coil over time and then get big rips after building a steady base?
Everything seems to be functioning properly now and my understanding has grown. I'm close. I'm also obsessed.

If youre getting lots of oil on the inside screen, pull slower, or try some electrical tape on the outer shell vent holes and see if youre pulling too hard. I had that issue, removed the screen, got flaming oil in my mouth, decided to slow down... rewarded with clouds. It does take 3.7 herc a bit to warm up, which is why the oil gets up there, it heats up enough to be super liquidy, but not enough to vape if you pull too quick. I just kinda cigar puff until i see desired density then hit it. Now, adding the nibbler, i can give it to my pigheaded friends who want that instant burnt coil taste from cheapo pens, and they all get dab rig sized clouds now.
@THC SCIENTIFIC : I cant even begin to describe the overwhelming positive responses nibbler/herc combo has garnered from everyone ive forced it upon. Many of my friends are hung up hard on shitty pens, but the nibbler just blasted the competition to the floor.

I agree with @bdmonkeyj3w. If your top screen is getting clogged right off the bat, you are either hitting it too hard, have too much oil on top of the already saturated coil, or possibly both.
I let it warm up for 4-5 seconds, took a 4-5 second rip and was on another planet!:o

I've put a lot of crumble in there and I am hitting it really hard. What could I do if there's too much oil on the coil? Just quit adding and heat it until it vapes?

yeah... crumble is the hardest for me to get going... i usually use a glass rod slightly heated to melt it in to the coil before i try, and heat it 5-10 seconds before trying a fairly light pull. as it gets to temp you will find more forgiveness in the draw pace. but crumble seems to be a bitch, and i only ever use 1 coil so i cant comment on doubling up.

crumble is like hardened foam insulation. it seems to take longer time for the heat to penetrate and melt it.

if you were to melt it down, it would become denser (same weight but less total size), and work fine loaded in the herc.

but in the Herc, by the time the crumble on top of the coil starts to melt, the oil in the coil is so hot and liquidy that it runs down through the coil.

I really think you should try get in on a skype sesh with someone on here to help you out. It'll save you a lot of time and frustration..

I used strictly crumble on my 74 for the longest time with great results with mouth watering flavors w/ only 1 coil.

To me it sounds like the problem is the draw technique. Draw very slow
