Marijuana and weight loss

I lost plenty of weight switching from smoking to vaping. And I lost weight wheni started smoking at first. It's really weird but I have never changed my eating/exercising habbits. But I swear I've lost like 20 pounds in a 6 month period just vaping with all the same eating and exercise habits(never exercise)

I find MJ balances out my appetite. I don't get the munchies everytime I vape, however when I do, it normally just reminds me to eat when I havent, not so much promoting over eating. But sometimes I do get the munchies for bad food or over snacking but if anything again I am more aware that I'm stress eating and just kind of give into it :)

Four months ago I started mmj for chronic pain. I've been taking 30 MG ms contin 3 times a day for nearly 10 years. I have become obese and had very little motivation, I have type 2 diabetes with a1c in the high 8 to low 9 range. Immediately my opioid use plummeted to one ms contin a day. Just had a n appointment with my family Dr and with the changes in my life that have happened since I started mmj being acknowledged as the key factor I have lost 30 lbs and my a1c was 6.4.

Do you believe your obesity and your minimal motivation is a direct relation to MMJ?
It is not for everyone, how did your body respond when you stopped the meds?

I am more the opposite of you, without it I can hardly eat... I withered down to 105bs [from 130+] during my last hiatus, which was due to another medical procedure that kept me in a controlled environment. As little as I was, loosing 25% of my bodyweight was nearly life threatening. At this point in my life, I will do/try anything to give myself an appetite and to keep my weight on.

Ever since I started last October I've been losing weight constantly. I weighed from 290-300ish and went to about 230 last I checked, while using a scale in my friends bathroom at a party.

As someone who loves buying clothes, I'm a little tired of buying new clothes as I lose weight. Shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth though.

Absolutely not. I started mmj 4 months ago after nearly 20 years of being cannabis free. I don't drink, I quit tobacco 10 years ago.
The reasons for my weight gain over a decade was a combination of an inability to do the things I used to be able to do due to severe back and leg pain and the I don't give an f attitude of daily opioid use, I sat on my ass a lot.
My story is a success story. Mmj has pretty much given me back my health and made me able to successfully manage living well after a life changing injury. I vape now as I never want smoke in my lungs again.
I am continuously amazed at the issues mmj can help with, giving appetite to the wasting and relief to the suffering.

I remember a guy telling me that he uses cannabis to suppress his hunger. I was like "huh doesn't it make you super hungry?!" and he replied "no I just keep using more and it goes away".

Cannabis is helping me lose FAT and gain muscle right now. Its all about using it correctly. It does increase my appetite, so I use that to TRY to eat things like salads and fruits and vegetables etc. Its hard to eat less processed food, especially while hungry as hell and stoned. It can be done though, I'm definitely getting better.

Also something I noticed is certain things I can vape before, certain things I need to vape AFTER. Hiking in the woods I hit dabs and it really helps me be able to walk farther and take my mind off the pain and loosen up a bit. At home I'm just starting DDP yoga (yes THAT DDP) and I find it would be too hard to do after vaping right before. Vaping after it helps me calm down and relax.

Not that its related, but I strongly suggest DDP yoga to people wanting to lose weight OR build strength. I've done a lot of yoga trying to feel better. This yoga has my heart rate up without any impact, and its got me COVERED in sweat....from yoga! If you are interested look up "ddp arthur" on youtube. That guy was in much worse shape than me and got seriously seriously fat. I don't feel bad saying that, because now hes in amazing shape and walking on his own.

Cannabis is a huge part of me improving my health. It allows me to work at improving myself. Cannabis isn't a cure, its a tool to self improvement.

DDP is the fucking man! I ran into him at dinner the other night, and he invited me to try his yoga... it is a great program.

No shit haha. I'd have been asking for an autograph for sure. Seems like a genuinely nice guy all around. I bet he likes his herb as well.

I have a weird munchie/wasting dynamic going on with my mmj and opioid use for chronic pain. Mmj is a lifesaver because even though I am on pretty much the mildest form of opioids (tylenol #3), they still have a negative effect on my my gi system which is very sensitive. I am able to keep them to just one a day because of mmj, which is huge for me. Sometimes I can even skip the opioids and take aspirin instead, but not as often as I would like.

The thing is, I really like the mmj and need to either increase my yield or become better at rationing it, because it seems that it takes me three months to grow a two-month supply under our current cardholder (and my space) restrictions. So my pattern lately seems to be to overuse for a couple of months, and then go on a t-break for a month. I could go find some to buy but it's a hassle in my state, and I am trying to recoup my costs from building the indoor hydro garden.

So for that t-break month I first go through my keif, then my lighter-colored abv, and then I make edibles/capsules. I try to at least wait until I am at the curing stage if I do end up buying some. During this time I am more dependent on the opioids, and my appetite suffers so usually I lose 5-10 lbs.

When I start vaping flowers again, I get the munchies like crazy for the first couple of weeks, usually for ice cream and other crap so I gain the weight right back. I feel that it's an unhealthy cycle that I'm just becoming cognizant of, so I'm dealing with it as best I can. I have some room for improvement with the gardening, and hopefully I can find a way to regulate my usage a little better as well.

Try not using the kief when you have NO bud left. Use it in between with bowls to make your supply last longer. One kief dusted bowl of bud lasts me longer than 2 regular bowls etc.

Pretty much have to ration it or buy some though which does suck. I have to buy all of mine, and I just accept that at this point. I can't grow, and I don't have the patience for it either sadly.

Good for you for keeping opiates to once a day. I know that struggle myself, knowing that you COULD make the pain go away for a few more hours if you just took that 2nd pill, but in the end the determination to not up the dosage and strong will power wins.

On topic of weight loss I guess.. I heard somewhere smoking actually heightens your metabolism.. Is that true?

Lost 6 kilograms in 6 months of daily cannabis use. I find that my appetite is suppressed if I am not medicating, ie from morning to afternoon, and properly begins when I am medicating, ie the remains of the day. Haven't got bad munchies and there is very little to munch at our house anyway -- my wife is a bit of a stickler with nutrition.

But it just seems to drop off without demanding much effort from me. Good times.

I was not really into MJ up until a year or two ago, before that it was usually just 3 - 4 times a year and it was an overly intense experience . Since I guess vaping regularly, I've lost around 20 lbs and my body has just normalized it's metabolism

I think MJ has shown me that part of my brain to distinguish emotional or boredom snacking from actual hunger

Add one more to the list. I went from 265 to 240 in 3 months of heavy usage for Fibermyagia. Nothing has changed in lifestyle aside from that. Food intake the same, same excersie level, etc.
