The Lotus Vaporizer

Okay reading through here I noticed a few comments regarding the Lotus being close to feeling like a joint. I never really paid much attention to this vape because I am usually looking at electrics but my mom for medical reasons instead of taking all those crazy pills and I think she might like it. She is old fashioned and prefers joints and doesn't like waiting for my vaporizer to heat up but I don't want her burning. The instant pain relief and untethered capabilities seem really neat with this. Although maybe I should just get her a Solo or something instead. Good or bad idea on a Lotus for a daily driver?
Has a medical patient I use the SOLO most.
However the LOTUS for me is my before sleep knock me out vaporizer.
It has a function for me medically.
I say she needs both?

Lotus is an inexpensive test, compared to the prices of many other vapes.
It took over the role as my daily driver from my Plenty, I never thought the little Lotus cap would do that but I have been remarkably impressed.

Preferred setup is WPA+ sherlock bubs.

Just had my medicine before bed with a LOTUS.
I love the simple function and joint like qualities!!!

This comment on one of the reviews is sounding very reassuring to me. I like the idea of something that isn't going to be outdated or ever stop working.

"If I had one vape to buy right now, I would still heavily consider the Lotus. If it’s something you want to use on your daily commute or in public areas, I would probably recommend one of the battery-powered alternatives. But if it’s something you want to use at home, take to your friends’ houses, take camping, and rely upon without any real effort, then the Lotus is a great option. The price is relatively modest, especially for a device that you can trust to work for years and years. As long as you have a torch and some bud, the Lotus won’t ever let you down."

As long as she doesn't have any impairments or restrictions in the use of her hands, the Lotus is a very good choice for a lady accustomed to blazing a bowl or joint. Which is exactly what you're doing with the Lotus, minus the burning. If she's the type of person who wants a quick hit and quit, the Lotus will fill that role admirably. Plus the whole look of it says it's a weed pipe.

If your mom is smart enough to remember the proper technique for using the lighter; then the lotus is good for her.

The lotus really needs you to spend a little time getting used to it and burning a couple bowls but when you learn it is indispensable.

Welcome to the site! Glad you are enjoying the Lotus.

The first time I saw a Lotus was I think in a video by @jambandphan03 - when I saw it in action, I KNEW I had to have it.

I have absolutely no regrets about my purchase, and will certainly be one of the first to beta-test the v4 cap if/when it ever comes out!

What is a v4 supposed to be for?
I thought the most recent change eliminated the cracking, I am eager to see what is next!

I'd also like to know. Don't wanna order one of these if there is a new one coming out or if this one will be on sale soon. Gonna get one this week for a birthday coming up.

Also does this do concentrates well. Wouldn't be near as frequent as loose leaf but every once in a while I'm sure. Anyone using the Herbalizer aroma pad for it?

V4 is supposed to make the Lotus more heat-tolerant (to prevent premature failure of the cap I presume). The recent change was to increase the durability of the hotplate. This new version tweaks the inside design - Here's a post from Max Jitter on July 14th:

We are waiting for parts for the high heat Lotus. There's a saying about machine shops/vendors: "High quality, low prices, fast service. You can have any 2 of the 3." We choose high quality and low prices.
Unfortunately it will not be a retrofit. The cap will look the same but have different internal parts.

Additionally I did hear previously (though it's been months since then) that the new caps may be assembled with ordinary woodworking tools, this would enable users to make exotic wood caps - I don't know if this will still be possible or if the design has changed, but there may be hope!

Got my Lotus in the mail today; there's some learning left to be sure, but I had a few questions for those of you more experienced than me.

1.) The cap was a little scorched and dimpled by the end of the first bowl; I didn't combust, and the herb came out just a shade lighter than I get with my nano. I see @ataxian and others, who use theirs daily+, not like, charred to pieces. Is this a sign that I should turn down the lighter?

2.) Sometimes either vapor or smoke comes off of the doughnut; I'm not sure if it issues from the metal cap, or from beneath it. The wood hasn't been touched by the flame, and looks fine.

Also, unrelated side note, I hadn't seen it mentioned in the thread, but the heftiness of the aluminum pipe and doughnut offers a sense of solidness to the construction; makes it feel much more durable than I was expecting. So I guess that's a plus for anyone considering it?

A good guide for flame length is from one flower point to the next on the Lotus.

When you say doughnut, do you mean the heat cap?

Yeah, the heat cap. Picture for demonstration; the lighting is a little low, so the marks stand out more. I've only used the Honest lighter with it; just don't want to break it, y'know.

It's completely normal...you're wearing-in your cap. It will get more broken-in as you go, and it will "become yours." Here's mine, and it performs beautifully still:

As for your second question from the OP, you are probably seeing visible vapor coming from below the plate, not from the plate itself. As long as you don't smell smoke during a session, it's just vapor. Inhale a little faster and none will get away ;)

Its ok if your top is scorched.
Mine still works perfectly!

still the best pre-bedtime vape!
i love it more than all my other vapes except maybe the SOLO!
with the Lotus i easily tear thru weed like combustion days again... but it's okay with me :)

It just got scorched pretty quickly, and I was worried that I was doing it wrong and would mess it up. The top giving off vapor or smoke really gave me that stoner paranoia : \.

Vapor coming out the top of the cap isn't normal - unless you're using a bubbler and you release the air pressure without removing the cap (some vapor will back-flow through the cap from the air pressure pushing up through the bubbler as the water settles down). Or sometimes when my friends combust, they forget to remove the cap and the smoke billows out through the whole cap (ooo I hate when that happens - makes the cap taste nasty for a few sessions!)

I was using my Lotus this morning for a quick pre-work session and swore I combusted because the vapor was so dense!

I've only used it with the aluminium stem. I was pretty dry yesterday and can't check now, but I'm getting another 7g Alaskan Ice today. If it does it again, I'll try to record it with my webcam for reference. It wasn't a lot, but it was pretty clearly either vapor or smoke. I definitely didn't combust though, after looking at the ABV; it came out just a shade lighter than the coffee grounds color that I aim for with my nano.

so I have given my Lotus vaporizer a week and I just can't seem to get it to work as everyone else here does. My vapor Genie my vapman and even my hammer all had a tiny learning curve but the one on the lotus seems to be rather difficult. as I was trying to use it yesterday, my only glass piece broke so I guess now I'm going to have to try and get one off of the dhgate. Maybe the Lotus wasn't working well with the glass piece or I wasn't using it right I only got combustion three times and was only able to get one good hit out of it which wasn't that great. I'm hoping that a good glass piece or bubbler will help the situation out because as of right now I'm undecided about how I feel about this vaporizer.:nope::hmm::bang::doh::rant::\:|

I got mine from http://ezvaporizers.com . With the coupon code FC16, you get 16% off. My Lotus with water tool adapter and long aluminium stem came out to ~120-125. Packaging was discreet, and I imagine that the billing will be as well (haven't yet looked.) It also came with 225g XiKar Purofine butane at a fairly reasonable addon price, a carrying case, a small concentrate jar, and the less expensive Honest lighter. It priced out to be cheaper than ordering through them directly, but there might be other vendors who sell for cheaper.
