That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

Yeah, I definitely get the fun part. I enjoy tinkering, but there's a lot to learn! One thing I don't get, with an APV, you can just adjust on the fly, with a mod you need to build a different coil, right? Wouldn't it be a lot easier with the APV, just change settings till you find your favorite temp? But the APVs won't do sub ohm - I guess that's the reason?

Yeah, that sounds good. The hits must be a lot hotter from an RDA though? Directly off the chamber? I was thinking of that type of water setup, for cooling. Do you use it much?

I'm just trying to get a handle on a "beginner" setup. The mods are pretty cheap on the 'bay - would prefer not to order from fasttech. A Nemesis or similar? 183650 batt - IMR + basic charger.
The RDA is where I am having trouble. A lot of the "full width" ones seem like the wax would tend to spread out and not stay on the coils.....wouldn't a narrower (14mm) one be better?

well you can build coils that absorb the oil and wont allow it to hit the deck. i would suggest starting with an igo-w to test the waters. its cheap and is a proven work horse of an RDA.

Can you describe the build where oil won't hit the deck? That's what I'm trying to get, but can't seem to build the right coil or wick.

I just scored a Chi You clone for a great price. Looks good as far as I can tell from my noob perspective :) It is a 23mm tube. Was looking at that Igo-W, but don't I want adjustable airflow, like a Helios? The Igo-W would look great with the Chi You, so would the Origen ;), and the Origen is adjustable. Too many choices! Wow, there are a BUNCH of Igo-Ws, which one do you recommend?

adjustable airflow is nice, but not a must have. i suggest the orig "igo-w"... no numbers behind it.

go back in this thread until you see my posts with pics of the sleeved stovetop coil... or diamondback coil as i call it. the only oil that makes it to the deck of my RDAs is from condensing on there. nothing runs or drips off this coil. wick is readyXwick in 2mm.

Thanks! Always good to go with a known winner. I was thinking the mod and rda needed to be the same width, but the combo looks fine!

You may find this to be true in your case, but keep in mind the less room you have the harder it becomes to rebuild, I find my Igo-w has the perfect balance of simplicity and room for maneuvering. Also very easy to wipe up all the reclaim for reuse.

As to the harshness from being in a small chamber with no water, it's not as bad as you would think, honestly I get more lung burn from oil out of my glass, but that could be because I do awesome dabs :)

Will ekowool work?

you could try a wickless coil, but i cant imagine the flavor being that great unless you know how to really finesse it. i could be wrong of course, but the sound of only metal and oil dont sit well with me. from a flavor standpoint.

I finally found a shop near me with some ceramic wick! I believe its called xc-116. This shop was so nice, I ended up buying a new mod and dripper hahaha. So now I have some ceramic wick, and some 24g and 26g kanthal. Now should I use the IGO-w or the Stillare clone? Stillare has a lot more room, so I'm going to go with that. Now to choose what build... is the stove top the best I can make with this material for taking medium to big rips? (Not looking to pack and go for a long time).

I am runnin @2clicker diamond back coil but with 2mm ekowool and a twisted 26ga "core". While it works it eats oil like no ones business gettin it broke in and takes a warm up to get goin because the ekowool doesn't conduct heat as well as the ceramic. It tastes pretty good the first few hits but I would wrap an ekowool dual coil single wick over an ekowool stovetop. :2c:

So this is what I built...

Does not work at all hahaha. I had a hard time trying to build a sleeved-stovetop. I still have some xc-116 left, so I think I'll just do a single coil with the ceramic wick on this inside like normal. Will this still hit better than my wickless setup?

does it not fire? why does it not work. it looks decent. maybe a bit large for that RDA but pretty clean.

here is a pic of one of
my coils for ref.

I'm a bit confused as how to wrap up. Mine frayed a lot but I'm more concerned with the shape. I dry fired it and didn't glow or anything.

Ok, I've got all my parts picked out except a coil. Any suggestions for a simple first single coil? I've got a VOM, and will test the resistance, I'll be using the Sony VCT5. I like the idea of the ceramic mesh X116 stuff.
The Diamond back sounds good, but I don't know if it will fit with the phillips screws the Igo-W comes with.

i think i am going to be offering coil building services here soon. i am just waiting on approval from the mods to move forward. considering offering diamondback coils, precoild RDAs, entire mod setups with precoiled RDAs, replacement parts like high temp silicone orings, SS set screws... stuff like that. oh and ive got another widget to show you guys soon. nothing major, but i think the FC oil crew will find them exciting.

this will just be for FC family.

So you're going to charge to show people how to wrap wire?

For anyone looking for a nice, cheap, easy design the newish Seego glacier attachment is pretty darn sweet. I think it's about 20mm wide and is 510 so it straps on to and looks sweet on top of a mech mod. Only thing I'm not too fond of is the glass viewing window other than that the design is great. I like that the center pin is actually part of the coil assembly so you don't need to worry about it failing like they do with the kiss carts and older seego models. Definitely capable of one hitter quitter but preserves flavor @ 2 + ohms.

nope. i would do that for free. im talking about offering hand wound coils for those that dont want to order the supplies and build it themselves.

there are some people locally that i am building for so i figured i would offer it here as well. pending approval of course.
I would be interested

Sounds like a great idea. I really want to learn how to do them myself, but I think others will definitely be interested. I guess I'll just get some 28 ga. Kanthal and X-116 and do a single coil for starters.

@2clicker ill be waiting to order a shatter mod til you get set up.
so excited!

other news.

got my aero tank mini a few days ago and the juice. really like the ecom c its super simple to use and I dont really have to fiddle like the vv.

ive been stealth juicing for no reason other than to try it out and stayed high as fuck while I finished the inlaws deck Friday.

I have enough "projects" that after years of vaping nic liquids I just can't go back to winding coils. So I'm always looking at repurposing, using off the shelf components. Not as competition for things like 2clicker's great diamondback (I'll order one too), but for the lazier times.

This uses a stovetop coil as a Vaped globe assembly plugin, found it on e-bay here. I've been looking for glass "saucepans" to put on the heater, to simmer and vaporize the erl without burning it.

This is a first try. It works surprisingly well for a small load, in fact it keeps on giving. I figure if I draw and blow out a huge cloud, it's lovely ... with nic juice it's great, but with erl I'm just donating 90% of my stash to the birds and bystanders, so easy does it. Then just add another schmear.

There are no doubt better ones out there, e.g. this one is bigger. The so-called "herb" chambers just ignite the herb, but they have other uses. Let us know what YOU find.
