Herb Grinders

Over the falls, in a barrel
I take it you don't know what the difference between yours and these possible newer 4 piece "vape grinders" they are advertising on their website?
I think that mine is that model. I purchased it in the fall of '12, and I don't think they've updated since then. The only thing special about the models with "vape" in the name (like mine) is that the holes in the top grinding chamber are smaller. Mine is the 2" model.

Looking back now, I'm not a huge user of the whole kief setup, so if I were starting all over again I'd be more interested in one of Mendo's 2.25" doublethick 2-pieces, or a 2-piece SCS.

I find the aesthetics of both the SCS and the Mendo appealing in different ways, personally. I can easily see how most would instantly regard the SCS as more attractive, but I also like the industrial look of the Mendo. You could even see it as a bit steampunk, with a little imagination.

The pros around here who actually own or have used multiple grinders tend to favor the SCS, and I trust their judgement there. My Mendo works for me; for the foreseeable future I'm not looking to buy another grinder unless I lose this one somehow.

Hey Hey
I've had my large 4 piece SC Shredder for just a bit more than a month now and decided to give the bottom chamber a scrape.

I think I'll continue to use this one:)

Holy shit that's a hell of a lot more kief than I have gotten in the past month with my SCS!

:mmmm:

Hello there @berman1125: First post here on FC but I have been lurking and creeping for some time. Never thought my first post would be about a grinder but I feel compelled to get back to you on your Sharp Shredda question. There's just something about this little grinder! I usually try to buy American and have another more expensive grinder but I read some interesting reviews many pages back and the price was right so I picked one up. It operates extremely smoothly and I am completely smitten with the lift out storage chamber/kief seperater. Everything is machined quite well and slides in an out very smoothly. Put a coin in the herb chamber and this grinder turns into a veritable kief factory! Really like that aspect cuz sometimes I like to turbocharge a bowl. The grind seems just fine to me (though I have never used the hallowed SCS) and works equally well in my Davinci Ascent, Extreme Q, and Vaporblunt 2.0. It was only 25 bucks delivered with AmazonPrime delivery and I got it literally the next day. I bet you'll like it. G Hog
Thanks for getting back to me. I ordered the larger version of this but I don't see a different design for the kief collector. It screws off just like every other grinder I've had

Massdrop has Mendo mulcher and Space Case grinders on sale right now. Just a heads up.
I think Im going to try the Mendo mulcher already have a 2 piece SCS and a small 4 piece sharpstone that gets gummed up to fast.

male side is on the lid! looks nice for upside down grinding. edit: the 2 in version is a "vape grinder" which means smaller holes. i think i'm going to get it and maybe try and convert it to a 3 piece with that nice curved bottom on the kief chamber.

Hmmm so the larger 4 piece mendo's are not "vape grinders" and thusly don't have the smaller holes? The other issue is, if the one 421 posted a picture of is the vape grinder, well, the holes ARE smaller, I will give them that, but there's so darn many of them? I have to wonder if that would be that much better (a shame I dont want to get another 4 piece though, because I would have been tempted to try it and see just how much finer the grind would be over the space case).

I am curious to hear more about these "double thick" mendo's. I agree, I like the USA made steampunky industrial look, at the very least. And if the "performance" between a solid two piece mendo and a 2 piece SCS are pretty similarly good, it may be a wash. But if anyone does leap on those mendo's any time soon, feel free to post about it!

Hey Hey
i have a sharpstone grinder, are their better brands? i heard spacecases were good.

If you're happy with the consistency that your Sharpstone gives you, I fail to see the point of upgrading it.

I've had a few name brand grinders before and although their quality of workmanship is sound, I always felt the need to go over my mix with some scissors. That is until I got a Santa Cruz Shredder(actually two) and now my scissors sit lonely on the shelf:nod:

Many of the mid to top tier grinders mentioned in this thread are solid units including Spacecases, but if you were to ask me which one I'd choose, the SCS will get my $$$ every time;)

So hard to decide, man.. SCS is really the only one I am looking at, so it's not as if there is any competition in my eyes.. But I am still so fucking confused about the best choice (2, 3 or 4 piece).

Hey Hey
@Deja Vu, although I use a large 4 piece mostly, my 2 piece small is great bit of kit for not a hell of a lot of dollars.

If I were in your boots, I'd get the small 2 piece first(ausvapes sells em if you're looking to dodge intl shipping) as you can always upgrade later if it's not enough. It'd be kind of silly to go backwards I reckon.

Also IIRC, you also use other herbs besides... ummm... herb. If so I wouldn't be inclined to use a 4 piece regardless.

2 piece for simplicity and price, 3 piece for the convenience of not having to dump your load somewhere after grinding and 4 piece for the same reason as the 3 piece with the added bonus (if you consider it one) of the pollen sifting screen and chamber.

After reading those, and a lot of the last 50 pages of this thread; the 3 piece is a winner for me I think.

I want one. I just can't justify buying it at the moment seeing as how I already have a large and a mini SCS.
Yeah and they are a bit pricey for a grinder.. haha. It's good to know that when we want one; the best is an SCS

Hey guys - if I ever wanted to clean my SCS for the sake of extracting any good bits stuck to the corners, will 91% ISO affect the Anodized finish? - Not saying it NEEDS it, but just curious.

I get worried sometimes while grinding that something's wrong because it's SO smooth you can hardly feel it grinding! Simply love this thing, can't believe I nearly passed on it, assuming the fancy logo on the top was just a gimmick

I want the 3 piece, but have absolutely no need for it, the 4 piece "small" is perfect (if not too big for a single user!)

I have used ISO on most all my grinders. In some cases, the anodized color will bleed over into the ISO (it might turn the ISO green if your grinder is green), however I have found that it does not dull nor have any effect on the vibrance of the grinder's color. It will keep its color just fine, but for this reason, some might suggest buying the grinders with a non-anodized finish.

But any bleeding will result in a tainted QWISO if I wanted to reclaim this, correct? How long did you soak before seeing any bleed? I'm thinking about maybe a quick rinse followed up by a toothpick to clean the corners and then rinse with water

You are probably right, I guess it does taint the ISO... I have never been much into reclaiming and did not factor that in:(

Be quick and I am sure it wont be a big deal. My SCS has never needed anything more than a toothpick to get everything out, you might want to try this first before washing in ISO.

Just got in on the mass drop deal for the 2in mendo mulcher. Lets get some more units sold and drop that price! Its 35$ now. I currently have the golden gate grinder from amazon. And the build quality looks great. Fit is good grind is relatively fine and fluffy. Reviews were great. But even after what I thought was a good cleaning I've still found a few very small metal flakes. Found about 3 pre scrub. 1 since. I'm going to take a toothbrush and some dish soap to it again and go HAM cleaning and hopefully the flakes will go away. It grinds so smooth and is well machined. My opinion is these flakes/shavings are most likely from production. And hopefully won't show up after a deep cleaning. Either way it will put my mind at ease to have the mendo mulcher

I have had this grinder for a really long time and it seems to work well. I don't know the brand for sure but I think it had crusher in the name. It has served me pretty well and the grind seems to work well with the Lotus. I have never cleaned it other than with a toothpick. How might a SCS or SC serve me better?
