Yeah I had noticed that. You're probably right about inactivity, but if I got a notification then I would become active in my watched threads.. catch 22 situation

Happens to me to and I can't figure out why. As soon as I visit the watched thread, I start getting notifications.

My theory is that if you get a notification alert and ignore it, then they stop alerting you until you visit that thread again.

This is exactly right. If you ignore an alert the XenForo assumes you don't care any more and stops alerting you. This is XenForo behaviour and not something FC can change as far as I know.

You did get a notification but you ignored it.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I didnt know where else it could go. So I like the alerts that I get on this website when I goto this site I can see I have new alerts. My question is there anyway to stop getting emails? I visit this site usually 1+ time a day and getting emails every two seconds on my phone is alittle annoying.

Thanks for any help

mod note: Merged into existing thread.

Go under "preferences" and uncheck the box that says "Receive e-mail notifications of replies"
I did that but thought I was still getting emails maybe they were old unread ones because I haven't received an email due to this thread. Maybe it took a second for that setting to apply.

Thank you t-dub; I kept getting alerts and this site is addicting instead of studying right now I kept checking out my alerts that kept coming on my phone. I mean I love this site but its not going to help me learn biochem lol

Maybe the email setting is saved on a per-thread basis and the setting you changed only affects threads you watch from now on.

Try unwatching and rewatching the threads you're getting the most emails from. The button is at the top right of the first post on every page.

You have to unsubscribe and then resubscribe to older threads that are still set to give you email notifications.

Dang kids distract me and nopart beats me to it

This is how to disable notifications, email or otherwise:

  1. Go here http://fuckcombustion.com/watched/threads/all
  2. Check the box beside the threads you don't want email notifications for
  3. Select Disable email notification from the drop down and click Go
It sounds like you've already got the other part figured out.
Hope that helps. :)

Must I unsubscribe from all emails every time I post in a new thread?

I check the website often and do not need any emails from FC.
Is there a way I can set it up where the default is for no emails?

Thanks, I see where you are referring now.

I also see the boxes at the bottom of the screen when I click on Reply with "more options."
It would be great to see these boxes under the quick response dialogue box as well, but now that I have changed it in my Preferences I guess that would be moot and redundant.

Thanks for the help!

I disabled email alerts after a week of using FC, and a few of the threads that I followed PRIOR to disabling alerts still alert me via email when someone replies to those threads.
Doesn't bother me, but thought the info may help

Interesting. Try unwatching one of those threads, then turning watch back on. Do the alerts stop?

Hi All,
For, I'm guessing, the last week or so, my unwatched threads have not been showing up in my Alerts.
Has something changed with the Alerts recently?
TIA,
Adobewan

Sometimes this happens to me when I think I've read through the most recent post in a given thread, but it turns out there's one or two more on a new page that I missed. XenForo then won't mark the thread as read, and so it won't notify you of new posts.

You've touched on the reason this happens. See my post above.

See now I just noticed I never got an alert of new posts once this thread was merged.
