Need help liberating shatter from parchment! HALP!

I almost wish it was a mistake I made, and not the product. It was hard, nice smelling shatter when I first got it. I even asked the budtender straight up if it would auto-budder or melt later on. "Naw maan.."

It's sitting with all my other grams of shatters, and it's the only one that softened up. Some on parchment squares, some in silicone containers. That reminds me.. I should go get more of these.

Anyway, here's a pic of the mess

The glob in the middle is where the shatter originally was. You can see where it just leaked to almost every corner of the PP.

Im thinking of my most recent trials with the smaller "chico" Jyarz. I tried 3 different shatters. Two were pull & snap variety, the other was ROCK hard shatter-glass (even at 85+* ambient temps). All of it ended up getting spot welded to the boro insert. Interestingly enough it was the super stable stuff that was the biggest bitch because it was so hard it would shatter into dust as I tried to chisel it off the glass.

Just sayin.

Of course for short term, I see no harm in using a glass dish. The stuff I had in my Jyarz was in there for 2 or 3 days.

I would love to see Aldo come out with a silicone insert and interior lid for the Chico. Then users can go with the glass and gaskets for their herb, or use the silicone for concentrates.

Its been my experience that glass isnt ideal when dealing with stuff like shatter.

This is my experience too - especially since I really like hard shatters. I am still looking for an alternative to silicone, but for ~3$ a pop at my local head shop, it's better than leaving my concentrate on plastic/parchment.

SlickSheet is 100% teflon. not silicone. and it destroys parchment for evapping/storage.

glass is cool, but fuck sticking and fuck scraping.

Purging on slicksheets is not ideal for vacuum-free purging because the surface tension between wax molecules is high enough to allow the wax to bead up on its self rather than staying as a thin film and significantly increases purge time (to beyond a week in some cases)

example: the only difference between these 2 images is about 15 hours

Good info but we were talking about long term storage and not manufacturing?

ah yeah true. Kind of expensive just to be able to store though, especially compared to nonstick containers that wont rip or tear when you put a solid tool to them.

weird. i have not noticed an increase of evap time between slicksheet and just glass. i use low heat and a fan to aid in the evap. maybe thats the dif...? also my runs did not bead up like that at all. it stayed as a thin film. this is a QWET run not BHO. never felt the need to vac purge.

im actually talking about both. i use slicksheet for both evap and storage. storage wise i just use a folded up piece of slicksheet just like anyone would use parchment. when not in use the folded up SS/oil is put into a herbpreserve jar. i have large ones for home storage and a small one for on the go storage. the small one gets a small piece of slicksheet inside it with the oil on that. the slicksheet is perfect for these uses IMO.

well if you reuse the slicksheet many times its not very expensive. ive been using the same pieces for months to store. still works great. if you are gentle you can easily use dab tools w/out tearing.

@2clicker interesting product. As I mentioned above, I tried moving over to the glass concentrate Jyarz with little success. From there I decided to simply keep my eerls in the parchment which then goes into a large Satchmo jyar. Seems to work fine since I buy grams and they store well in this larger container... Plus I can fit a bunch of different strains in there without it mixing up:

Works great, but I'm looking for something reusable and durable to replace the high end parchment u see in the pic. Anyway, to come full circle, can I cut the slickheet to size and will it fold up/store in the manner you see above?

It's a PTFE film, you can handle it pretty much just the same as parchment paper or wax paper. I would maybe avoid running over the same creases repeatedly, but you can fold it up and cut it to size just fine.

Will it actually stay folded? I'm imagining a rubbery substance that will unfold once you let go of it.

a decent crease will keep it folded pretty well, but like you said about your jar with parchment "envelopes"... once its in the jar it will not unfold at all. esp if you have multiple envelopes in there.

my jars look like filing cabinets. i also have dif jars for dif quality/runs. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-beyond run jars.

and the teflon (ptfe) isnt rubbery like their silicone pads. its thin as paper and more of a plastic feel to it. so yes it folds well enough.

Looks like I need to buy me some.

i will add that when looking into purchasing a roll, it can seem expensive. BUT you cut it to size and can use the same pieces many times. it will last you much longer than you expect. that is unless you are doing commercial runs multiple times a day. if thats the case then you will use more of it, but at that point you should be rolling in fundage to purchase more.

oh and one more thing... there are two versions out there. the old version which i believe came in a box just like parchment does. then the newer version of which is sold in a tube. i bring this up because you want the new version. there may still be some retailers selling the old stuff. i know amazon had both versions available not long ago. FYI

@2clicker I see that the ptfe roll is 100% resistant to non-polar solvents. Iso and EtOH are both polar aren't they? So you have seen no problems purging/evaporating with the low heat using this? I will admit, I am getting tired of scraping.

@itschad

Bought some on Amazon. Came today. IT'S THE FUCKING TITS.

Thank you, you have my gratitude.

Also, @ $14 (maybe it was $15?) with free shipping from Amazon Prime it really didn't seem overly expensive given what you get, and what you can get out of it.

This product is Officially Caligula Approved™!

Caligula does not fuck around with his medications. You're talking to a guy who stores his Jyarz in their own Pelican case, which then gets stored in an air conditioned closet.

That said, I'd love to see pics.

thats hilarious because do almost the exact same thing.

i use jars (preferably the herb preserve stuff) and those go into the tightvac containers that Randy over and PIU sells. those then get put into a pelican case and stored in a dark climate controlled area.
