Listen to @poonman he knows!

I'm learning everyday however there's a few things that work in my case.
This may not work for you?
Check with someone who knows?

I use 1/2" screens from ebay.
Glass screens I have locked in a few GonG.
(that's a different subject and not my invention at all but I love it!)

I clean my glass were it sparkles like crystle.
There is not right or wrong way to clean.
Whatever you have to clean and some patience.

BASIC
PBW -(ebay 1 pound will get you started and supplied for a very long time.)
98f water I just use tap on this set.

2 teaspoon (round) PBW I sprinkle into the glass piecing I'm cleaning at the time.
This for 3 or 4 water rigs, adapters, stems, GonG'S, whatever.
I use a 5 gallon paint pail from HOME DEPOT and with the glass pieces in place fill with warm water (98f) + or - 3 degrees

Sprinkle 2 more round tea spoon's into the water or the covered glass with PBW.

Let it soak for an hour or whatever is your schedule (over night if you like)
I do it this way because people say they get streaks on their glass with their method?
So I just follow my program and it's worked well so far.

Rinse

I can use warm water 98F

I Break glass like nobodies business so I take one piece at a time to deal with.
Rinse with warm water first
2nd Rinse with reverse osmosis or distilled. Clean drinking water works.

OPTIONAL
Before I begin I "pre-clean" with a simple cheap method.

Baking Soda 1/2 cup
White Vinegar 4 cups or more
COSTCO BULK is CHEAP
The same 5 gallon pail

The BS (no joke) I sprinkle in the glass and fittings. (1/4 cup)
Fill with 1 cup into cavity of glass pieces the BS.
Spread the remainder of the BS over your pieces.
Pour the remainder of the Vinegar over the BS.
Soak for at least 1 hour or longer if you want.

Rinse and proceed to the Basic PWB step.

Closing step 100% Optional
You don't need this step either (over kill)
After the Basic STEP
I put everything clean back in the 5 gallon bucket
Take 2 or more citrus fruits (LIMES, GRAPEFRUIT, ORANGE, LEMON)
I have a few.
I cut the fruit in half and squeeze on to my glass pieces
Fill with clean pure water not tap! (cover your pieces with water)
15min soak is enough
Rinse
Towel dry or just let them air dry on a soft cloth.

This optional step is only if you are sensitive?
Otherwise skip it!

I forgot One more thing:

CANNABIS is the HOLY GRAIL!

Awesome Ataxian! I am copying and pasting to a separate document to print. Vinegar and the acidic fruits should be great as cleansers.
And yes....Cannabis IS the Holy Grail!! (amen)

I am so glad I bought my Solo from Randy at Puff It Up! After 6 months of daily use(never abused), hell it never left my house, anyway, it started acting up with constant idle light , premature shut off, weird temp readings etc. PUI had a new unit to me, halfway across the country in less than a week. I used some other vapes to get me through, but I really missed my Solo! It is still my go to flower vape.

Yesterday I had a few stems on level 2 and it was good!

Today I was on 4 all day and it was good.

I vaporized a lot today and it was good.

Both my strains I love and they are good.

My SOLO medicates and this is good.

Cannabis is good!

@Quetzalcoatl sometimes I don't even turn the SOLO on and just breath the flavor!

It's that good!

I get it All is good.
Such positivity should be spread around more often, shame so many people will be denied this because of stupid laws.

I have never thought to use PWB for my glass cleaning.

I just use salt, iso, warm water and dish soap and my glass always comes out looking great - not perfect, but pretty nice!

@jpdnkstr I agree, PIU's service is incredible and exceptional. I think Randy also knows at this point that anytime I send anything back I bug him to see if it made it safely so he just tells me my stuff made it in right as it does now ;) sorry Randy!

And let us never forget that cannabis is the holy grail!!!!

Cannabis was the HOLY GRAIL yet the inquisition is to blame once again!
Thousands of years ago if you wanted a little weed for yourself you had to smoke it but now we can just use our SOLOs!

You should. And you should try it. Really.

Cheaper, not as nasty, more effective, and overall much easier to deal with.

Oh, yeah, long term it works on the mineral deposits from the past........

"Try it, you'll like it".

I'm not trying to be a smartass, i'm genuinely curious. What's it not as nasty as?

I totally believe that it's awesome for glass cleaning, but I can't find out what it's made of and it's patented which makes it seems very mysterious.

Does it foam up? I checked MSDS and found this....

Personally i would be very concerned about using this in my glass unless I washed it a million times after cleaning!!!
@ataxian @OF and any others using PWB in your glass please be very very careful.

ISO. It doesn't have flammable fumes, strong smells, concerns with skin contact and is not near as toxic as ISO as I see it.

No, it's not made for glass specifically. For metal surfaces, actually, but does a great job. There's a tread on it somewhere around here.

Not, it doesn't foam up (that hinders detergents, agents are used to control it), but it does use 'Oxyclean' technology to attack deposits so tiny bubbles evolve over many minutes, mostly at contamination sites.

It's a detergent, the very sort of stuff you wash your dishes in. Only developed/optimized for the brewing industry. You can buy it in home brewing stores. Of course you rinse after washing, don't you with ISO? Only this stuff is specifically destined to 'rinse free'. Even more so that dishwasher detergent. And it's specifically designed to attack (using Oxygen) the very sort of hydrocarbon based junk we have, it's designed to wash clean brew kettles in breweries without scrubbing, a resin contaminated bong is a walk in the park for it.

And of course I don't drink the water. After my usual suspicious approach I see no undue cause for concern. Less risks by far than ISO, IMO. And cheaper, too.

Thanks for the caution.

It's your call, but my advice is to check it out. BTW, you do know "PBW" is Powdered Brewery Wash, right?

Ya know who else uses it? Brewers. People that need to clean carboys and stuff 100% before sterilizing. I have no qualms with using PBW with the glass I use to vape. It turns the water kinda slippery and is easy to know when it fully washes out. Safer than ISO unless your glass gets slippery, simple set-and-forget for a bit. The "inhalation" bit is scary until you realize they mean something like sticking your nose into the tub and snorting real hard... at least that's what I take it to be.

Ah, i had no prior knowledge of it at all, nor any idea there was already discussion of it here. A quick look at the MSDS made it look unnecessarily corrosive for glass use. I pretty much just went straight there looking for ingredients used and thought you guys were using some kind of crazy metal eating detergent in your glass.

Anyway, the Solo is a cool vaporizer. I'm actually finding I don't like or use my PVHES almost at all anymore? I still use my PVHE gong but I just get way better results with my stock stems.

I still need to clean my stems badly!

I'm using my busted stock stem-turned-GonG a lot more than my PVHES as well. It's a little more restricted on the draw but I get a little thicker vapor with stock stems. Keeping my PVHES around in case this one breaks.

I do a citrus wash and rinse after a clean cycle. My glass sparkles and taste amazing with a SOLO GonG of TOP SHELF LAB TESTED CANNABIS FLOWERS. Hopefully your flowers are lab tested?

With PBW rising a bunch with hot water seems to do the trick for me.

In a misspend youth I had a summer job (that carried over to after school) washing glassware in a serious Zoology Lab. And I made tea (well special tea.....). I washed a LOT of 2 liter Erlenmeyer flasks (the cone shaped ones). Ten washes in "Labtone" (seriously strong TSP detergent). 10 washes. Followed by 10 rinses of hot water (same as the wash water). Followed by 10 rinses in 'house' distilled water (still on the roof) and finally 10 rinses in the special double distilled water you had to hump down from the storeroom 5 gallons at a time.

You'd then boil up 2.5 liters of the double distilled water with some stuff called 'Scotch Grass', literally a moss from the UK, making a tea of sorts to formula. This would feed the bacteria we'd grow to feed the little critters being studied. Then filtered under vacuum, capped and autoclaved, live steam time, nothing survives. Very rich stuff, if anything, even a single critter, survives it's game on. 3 days in the incubator and a check for clouding was followed by a single drop of the right bacteria and back to the incubator. In 48 hours, if all went well, the solution would still be clear but was ready for use.

Even the most careful (like my boss) would fail one in ten or more.

I was taught a lot about washing and especially rinsing. That's all by way of explaining my suggestion, do lots of small quick rinses. Each rinse really only dilutes what's left. After that all you're doing is re coating the walls with cleaner wet. If you assume you put 100 times that in (a conservative number) the next rinse leaves only 1% of what was there, no matter how much extra shaking you do. Dump that and put another shot glass or two of fresh water in and shake again and you're down to .01% and so on. Fill it up and shake and shake and shake and you're still behind.

I just did my little bubbler, 5 or 6 quick rinses is what I did, shaking as much as possible out between. Then fill it up to the magic line and vape on. Filling the WT a small amount and shaking is actually more effective in the end that less fuller rinses. Much more so when it really matters.

Now you know how to rinse glassware with the best of 'em.

I'm using my busted stock stem-turned-GonG a lot more than my PVHES as well. It's a little more restricted on the draw but I get a little thicker vapor with stock stems.

I'm with ya there too, Bro. I find the factory restrictions suit my style better. I'm a sipper and think I get better vapor (and battery life too....) that way. I understand it's not for everyone, but I think the best advice to new owners is to explore the stock stems first (after all Arizer no doubt tested other versions (like the PVHES) and decided the scheme they used suits the largest part of the customers). And, as we know, draw eases up some as the seal breaks in. Jumping on a PVHES because "I read it on the web" is not necessarily a good move IMO. It should be an informed decision?

I like my plain straight stock stem better than any of the other dry glass stems. I have a "newer" model Solo purchased in March.

One thing I noticed is I think the bowl size is larger now, I thought maybe mine was manufactured funny or something, but having more room in the stem isn't much to complain about, in fact I was glad...

But since then I have seen a few new photos taken of stock stems and they do seem to be bigger. For a while there I was scratching my head wondering why I could fit almost a full quarter gram of bone dry herb into a stem, and others are talking about .16-.18 grams. Then I got a PV and it was .18 grams, same length as the old stock stems.

My consumption is down to a gram a week. That's pretty good. That's 28% less than I used to combust (unless I am sick) which I have stuck to that amount for the past 20 years. I think I could reduce even lower than that. The lower my tolerance, the better.

I have been grinding more coarse, but I haven't noticed all that big a difference, but I have been puffing on all of my lowest quality material to get rid of it and free up some jars.

BOBCAT

Its Just Temporary
So with all the talk of chipped/broken bottoms on our Solos im looking into having them laser cut out of aluminum. That should take care of the problem.Just waiting to hear back on price. If you have interest in this please pm me and let me know.(if it all works out I will go through the proper channels and make them available)

Have you guys had any issues with the bud falling out of the stem? I believe minehas fallen out and then onto the metal heating part, which probably isnt good. This happens even when its packed in well, and/or grinded. It only happens after taking several hits, not when fresh.

Any tips?

Sorry to be so opinionated!
I use the PHVES the most.
Were all different and set up our medical devices to provide our needs.

I have some stock gear for when I get the new model.

So you like the old model with stock stems?

What's wrong with me?

Pack it and press down a bit so it stays under the rim around 1/8 inch. Take the first few hits upside down so the trichomes melt and glue everything together. The bits that end up touching the heat sink get vaped via conduction and they usually end up really overcooked, tasting gross. I put a screen on top of my flower after I pack my stems so that the flowers don't fall down. I made a "tophat" screen that looks like a flat dome screen, easy to take out once the stem cools down with a finger, or a poker/prodding stick can grab one of the sides of the "cup" (placed face down) and comes out.

What size screen do you use to make the "TOP HAT"?
Very good ideal!

I believe they were 1 inch screens? Make a dome screen, then carefully flatten the edges of it so that it conforms to the shape of the inside of the stem. Trim to clean excess or any frays! If you want to use micro loads grind your material very fine, and add a little into the basket. The top hat screen gets placed "basket-up, flat-face down" so that it presses evenly against the flowers inside the stem (also so they don't touch the heater!) This is how I enjoy on the go and make sure that I get no flower on my heat sink. Bonus points if you flip it over and push it down into the stem, you end up with a flat dome screen that reduces your stem size by around 50%.

Sounds like a very useful thing to me, not as simple as it first seems? How to deal with the screws (you really don't want the head proud and scratching the furniture.....) for instance. Great project, hope it works, keep us posted?

Why not go at them with a drill a little bigger than the center hole where the screws thread? It would provide some space for the screw heads to go down. If the base plate is thick enough the screws should sit flush or maybe even a little lower, assuming we're using the same flat screws and not different ones with the same thread but a round "head".

Yes. Counter bored holes (part way through, flat bottom) is one option, as is countersinking (tapered counterbores like the factory did). Both call for discrete machining steps which can add a lot to the cost.

Another option is to make two plates, a 'normal' one with holes for normal sheet metal screws (which would have the heads stick up) and a second plate, with clearance holes for the screw heads and as thick as they are proud (stick out) which can be glued over it. Before or after installing it. Two plates are probably cheaper than one with fancy holes. This also lets you make the lower plate from stainless or similar strong metal (so it can be thin) and the upper (cover) plate from some plastic, rubber or other material more appropriate to the job?

Fun idea.

So you like the old model with stock stems?

What's wrong with me?

Pretty sure nothing's wrong with you!
Except did you smoke enough cannabis today?

For a long time I actually couldn't get a good hit with the stock stems.
I needed to use the PVHES to get any hit at all!

When my throat is tired or sensitive or i am feeling sick my PVHES is my go to.
Any other time I want lung busting dense hits I go for the stock stem.

I like my old model and my old-er model!
When one of my current Solos dies I will buy one or maybe even two new model Solos.

Stay opinionated!!!
People without opinions are no fun!!!
