Favourite Strain Appreciation Thread

I'm a fan of the classic lethargic indica stone... You young whippersnappers and your zingy feeling lemon tasting OG's, Girl Scouts, Lemon Hazes etc. (I kid, I kid - I'm in my 20's and appreciate a sativa once in a while. Trainwreck or a legit OG fit the bill)

I puff at night for medical and recreational purposes :) Short, fat, dark, greasy goodness for me. If it tastes like kushy earth or spicy sandalwood - yes please.

My favorites:

Afghani
Afghani Kush
Black Domina
Master Kush
Grand Daddy Purple

To each their own though - we all have different body chemistries and one mans prized Afghani could be another man's Animals Cookies :2c:

One of my favorites has always been big bang. Long-known for its medicinal, almost narcotic-like properties, it is still a big seller in the Dutch pharmacies as prescription medicine.

tIl9z5l.jpg

yes there's a couple of cat hairs in it, such is life around here

An 80% indica 20% sativa hybrid, big bang is a cross of skunk and northern light strains. In terms of flavor, big bang has been described as sweet, apple-like, tasting of rose and violet candies, and multi-faceted. It was a finalist in the 2000 cannabis cup, where it set a record for indoor thc levels.

My favorite strain so far is Kandy Kush. OG Kush x Trainwreck, Sativa dominate hybrid. The high has this almost gear shifting effect, starting with a great creative, concentrated buzz from the Trainwreck, and after a bit of time passes the OG kicks in like a diesel truck pulling a pop-up trailer for a nice stoney lounge. This is the only hybrid I've found that actually feels like 2 strains to me.

Also a big fan of Green Dream. Kind of a Sativa guy. Fun to make music or watch comedy with them, though I find most people around me are more into indicas.

I like the haze family, I like Super Lemon Haze, Super Silver Haze, Black Haze. I also really like Gods Gift, Thunderfuck and Blue Dream. It's hard to choose a fav.
Blue dream helped a lot with pain. The others did too, but Blue Dream seemed to stand out.

I really like good flavor as well as a strain that medicates well.

My all time favorite strain that stands out after all these years is nebula. It was covered in powder like a fat man in a doughnut shop. And the smell was unreal almost like a mix of caramel and honey...

And the effects, I've never had something effect me like this...it like turned me into a zombie but with the clearest head high... It's been about 5 years since the one time I had it but nothing since has topped it

PPN

Volute of Vapor
My last 2 strains are a cheap auto skunk and a white widows auto, both look nice but there is a very big difference about vapour production, the WW taste really sweet (I don't cough at all with it) but don't produce lot of vapour then my skunk (half price than ww) kick hard...

It's not the first time I noticed better results with cheaper strains....maybe the more expensive strains are more difficult to grow....?

I'm loving the strain UK Cheese! I picked up an eighth yesterday....and wow is it fucking good. I haven't had that strain for a long time and forgot how good it was. I opened the container and very fragrant stinky cheese smell filed the room. If you're looking for a strong sativa dominant hybrid, this would be a fine choice. Very strong high both head and body. A true best of both worlds strain suitable for both day or night use. Very distinct taste.... kind of a cheesy with a hint of earthiness. UK Cheese would pair well with a bottle of good Napa Cabernet. Smooth yet very flavorful vapor. I love this shit!

Anymore Cheese Heads out there?

Yes cheese is imo one of the best all rounders. I like to have some in reserve.

I'm guessing the Cheese you get is a backcross with an afghani? It adds a more indica stone.

The original clone only is more heady and pretty hard to get in the UK now I've only had clone cheese once in the last year. Cheese is very common in some parts of the UK. And where I live 90% of what I smell in the street is cheese.

This thread needs reviving! Australia is absolutely useless for bud. I know the exact stuff you're talking about @herbivore21, it is the same everywhere. My first few years with weed was exclusively with that schwag, so I always thought it was ok stuff. Looking into it more intensively over the last 18 months or so, I've come to realise the situation here is very poor.

In the last few months, there's been quite a few imports; AK-47 has done the rounds (never tried), G13 is currently surfacing (probably my favourite strain, but seeing all these lovely strains here makes me realise it's not even near the top) and a few others that I'm not too sure about, but are definitely not the commonplace muck you find everywhere. But it seems no one is actually growing better strains, they just occasionally get imported.

@StrawbKerry

Where does the imported weed come from? I saw some weed documentaries on YouTube and parts of Africa grew massive fields of mainly non landrace strains and I did wonder where it went was it all for Africa or export.

I wish I could tell you @cityslang, but I don't know. I've only seriously gotten into cannabis in the last few months, so it's not my area of expertise. It isn't in large volumes really; it might just be individual buyers wanting to offer something new. If I ever find out I'll let you know.

Found this article 40% thc!

40% THC? Australians Are Growing The World’s Strongest Pot
australia-strongest-pot-07-31.jpg

The first study to investigate the strength of Australian marijuana has found some of the highest THC levels in the world.

TruthOnPot.com – You might think of places like Amsterdam or California as leaders in high potency marijuana, but new research shows it’s actually Australia that grows the world’s strongest pot. In a study published last week, samples taken from the street market measured 15 percent THC on average, with the most potent strains measuring as high as 40 percent.

While recreational users might see this as good news, high levels of THC could be a drawback for Australians who use marijuana for medical purposes. That’s because CBD levels tend to decrease when THC goes up, which was another finding of the study.

Dr. Wendy Swift, lead author of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) investigation, told ABC News that other cannabinoids were present at “very low levels,” especially CBD.

The results, published in the international science journal PLOS ONE, showed over 90 percent of samples contained less than 0.1 percent CBD. Dr. Swift highlighted the problems associated with low CBD levels in a press release last week.

“While we have suspected for some time that cannabis in Australia contains high levels of THC, this is the first Australian analysis to demonstrate that on average, cannabis smoked by Australians is of similar high potency to that found in studies overseas and that levels of CBD, which may ameliorate some of the harmful effects of THC, are extremely low.”

australia-strongest-pot-2-07-31.jpg
The study was not only the first Australian analysis of CBD, but of cannabis potency in general.

However, the high THC content was less of a surprise, considering cannabis around the world has tested stronger for this compound for as long as anyone has studied it.

Still, the growing population of medical marijuana users seem to prefer CBD in most cases. The chemical has many of the same therapeutic effects as THC, but comes without the high. In fact, in countries like Israel – where medical marijuana is legal – companies have developed strains with as much as 15 percent CBD and less than 1 percent THC in order to meet this need.

Which just goes to show, the rising strength of marijuana may actually be a good argument for – rather than against – legalizing the cannabis plant.

Unfortunately, most policymakers continue to argue the opposite.

I was reading that article only a few weeks ago! It's certainly curious that it soars so high, especially since Australia is the most arid continent besides Antarctica and you'd think our soil wouldn't be too fertile. Despite the high content, I still think it's of a particularly low quality.

Now I know approximately zero about growing, so this is all conjecture, but I'll throw a few suggestions out there. Please forgive what is probably an alarming lack of knowledge.
- soil quality (outdoor grows at least)
- uv exposure (outdoor again, b/c hole in ozone layer)
- water quality (Melbourne or Adelaide, either extreme )
- growing techniques

Then again it could just be a lucky sample, although it appears they studied at least 70 odd strains.

The one good thing is (for recreational users at least) once we actually get good buds they will be off the charts in THC content!
