The Lotus Vaporizer

Mendocino had one over the 4th holiday but I don't know if they have one currently. EZVape.com still has the FC 16% discount with the code fc16.

I don't see how you can go wrong with the Lotus, unless it is not getting one. :)

I've tried more than a few bubblers with my lotus, from a small bong to a large one, an ashcatcher/j-hook combo, and my roor tech recycler among a few others.

Nothing comes close to my oldest ssv bubbler with the lotus (for me):

And the great thing is I really didn't have a use for this piece, after I got my ssv tripod bubbler.

My current preferred weapon of choice with the Lotus is the D020--2-w (blue trim version) from the SunshineStore.

This was an unexpected match, I bought the piece originally for use with my Nano. But I love how it pairs with the Lotus, Probably going to get a custom 18mm to 14mm female to female adapter from @VaPeD&CoNfUsEd in the near future to eliminate the need for a reducer.

With a female to female adapter (and a reducer) this setup has perfect line of site to the top of the hot plate and yet still far enough away from the heat to make it comfortable.

I was lucky and got a nearly perfect piece - not a bubble on any weld, seams smooth as butter, and both percs seem pretty level.

My only complaint is how chuggy it can be when you put it down and the water settles (the ABV blowback can be brutal) - I think my water level is too high, using less might fix my issue

On another note, check out my new J-hook pipe stand! Designed as a universal fit for various sizes of j-hooks, though it was designed with a focus on the Grav-Labs j-hook included with the Lotus kit.
PtluKBr.jpg

My latest version of the stand now includes a slight bump on the wide side. I found this helps stabilize light loads on top of the hook while in the stand (Such as a Lotus cap or a GonG stem for my Nano).

Currently available only in plastic through my etsy store - it will soon be available in other materials such as steel, gold, silver, and ceramic through my shapeways store.

My two favorite portables are the Solo and the Lotus, and I don't consider either one of them discreet. If I want discretion I usually feel like I am settling.
Discretion is cool, but I'm more concerned with portability. If I could do it all over I'd buy the nano again, but festival season made me realize how nice having a vape I could use virtually anywhere would be. Went through a quarter ounce smoked when I was in a no electricity environment with some friends, and it felt like I was wasting my delicious Alaskan Ice. Gonna pick one of these up and see for myself if I want a pen as well; vaping is gonna really hurt my hoarder impulses.

Looks really good!

Side note: Those dimples on the new plate look sexy as fuck.

Don't know if anyone has tried that leather pouch MT now sells to carry the cap while hot - any owners want to comment?

I have the leather pouch and their carry bag. The leather pouch is great, one for being able to put a hot cap away without issues. Two it protects the delicate hot plate.

I've usually got 2 torches, a small vial of herb, the long AL stem, the heat cap, and a small dab tool to scrape out the ABV in my carry bag. And I used to worry about something poking the hot plate, the leather pouch resolved that concern for me. It also works 2 ways, one as a simple cover over the hot plate while it's still on the stem (this setup with my long stem barely fits in the carry bag, short stem version would fit easily) second as just a case for the hot plate. When the stem and plate are separated. This way fits much easier into the bag.

I find the torch to be the sketchiest part of using the Lotus in public, it attracts attention.

Then again, sometimes a decent Merlot goes nicely in a boda bag on a hiking tail... ;)

Nice Jag Hood Ornament. Did you have the Jag too? Miss seeing the older ones around...

Added: Is that @Ratchett's J-Hook stand?

I combusted in my Lotus last night for the first time after a month+ of almost-daily use :/ It was kind of shocking to me, but I put it out immediately and I don't think there was any real damage (odor, or otherwise). I am inclined to blame my friend who was using it with me for the first time -- it was me who combusted but I was using it right after her and maybe the plate was too hot from her first-time use/technique. Or perhaps she was actually combusting rather than vaping with it and neither of us realized? I don't think so, but she is a smoker after all, and a vapor newb. It was strange to me how unpleasant I found barely inhaling smoke to be after all the years I enjoyed smoking just fine.

I try to get as much out of my herb as I can, so I occasionally combust a little. Although I immediately change the water and CE and empty and scrape out the bowl, I don't find any lasting effects. As I am only 4 months or so from smoking every day, and I still occasionally hit a one hitter (combust) for one or two hits when I am around smokers, I may not be as sensitive as some others here to combustion remains. But an occasional ignition here and there really shouldn't hurt the Lotus.

Good to hear (about not hurting the Lotus). I get my abv VERY dark with it, so I think I've been pretty good at maximum extraction without combusting. I started exclusively vaping in April as soon as I made my first vape purchase. I smoked with a friend once a few weeks later and found it was perfectly serviceable/not objectionable to me, and then a second time earlier this month (intentionally), and was surprised at how unpleasant it suddenly was, and then again when I accidentally combusted. Pretty weird...

How do you guys wash out the lotus pipe (the pipe part itself) and is the screen easily swappable?
Mine still has an odor of last time i combusted in it accidentally!

Still getting the hang of my lotus but i love it a lot! It is definitely in my top 3 now which i definitely did not expect.

Here's my method. I have the pipe at a very slight angle and pour a cap-full of iso into the bowl. The ISO will settle to fill most of the bowl and a good part of the stem
I usually do it in the sink using a spoon - the pic is for illustration purposes only ;) aim to get it as flat as possible without the ISO pouring out the mouthpiece

Leave for 15 mins+ then pour away the ISO and rinse thoroughly with hot water...

I use a lot of bubble and imported hash in mine so pretty much have to clean it daily or more often. this way is quick and only uses a capfull of ISO. I leave the screen in and usually it comes ouy l;ike new. You can swap them out easilly though. The one that I got with the Lotus itself was way too open for me so I swapped it out for a finer one. I think if you're in the US that MT will send you some for $1 and a SAE iirc...

I have never used the pipe it comes with because I use a glass jhook instead.
I have a life time supply of 1/2" ss SOLO screens that are swappable.
When I feel like a joint or sparking up a large water pipe I use the LOTUS.

I have to be careful the LOTUS is very powerful!

Before I got the Lotus cleaning glass, I used to put the stem into a tupperware container with ISO (not a lot), close it and shake it up.

Then used the used ISO for my waterpipe.

I put my thumb as a stopper on the bowl, then pour a dash of salt and ISO down the mouthpiece, stop the mouthpiece with my thumb, shake, rinse with warm water.

The screens I either ISO, but more often now I simply torch them.
I was hesitant of torching leaving a taste, but it has not been an issue.

I like it simple as well. My Y pipe has developed a small crack so had to come up with an alternative.

BTW, anyone with glass experience know if this can be heated up to repair it before the crack spreads? TIA
