Arizer Solo

Hey FCers... I have been a long time fan of this site, but as a member am brand spankin new! I am not, however, new to vaporizers. I've had my Solo for almost a year and LOOOOOOOOVE it, my only complaint really is that the draw is so resistant. I heard that there was a change made to the stems to where the airflow is better now and you don't have to draw so hard. Does anyone know if this is true? I would appreciate any insight, thanks...

Eds mouthpieces have no steel taste. In the beginning they have that earthy wood taste mingled in with the taste of the cannabis. They have wonderful flavor and doesn't take away from the Solo at all. You have made your unit more versatile and glass breakage free. Only you can decide what works best for you. When at home inside I use glass.

I have four different Eds mouthpieces. Two for the Solo and two for my Ascent. I would highly recommend them.

vapalicious, welcome to FC. Glad to hear you are a fan too. You can buy the PVHES glass mouthpieces from Planetvape, a vendor on FC. These mouthpieces make the draw less restricted. They have been sold out quite a bit lately. You need to keep checking throughout the day, everyday.

You could buy a newer model Solo. They have improved on the draw restriction. You also can charge and use at the same time with the newer models. Every vaporist needs at least 2 Solos.

No, they made the air holes bigger on the steel oven. They did not make the holes in the stems bigger, the bottleneck is not in the stems so much as it is in the ovens. You'd need to replace it with a new Solo since you can't swap ovens out. Planet Vape sells stems (PVHES) with notches cut on the rim of the business end to allow more air through. I noted that the hits through a PVHES are not quite as thick as with a stock stem, but only realized after a fair bit of testing. I use my broken straight stem (flame-polished) with some silicone in a 14mm adapter as my GonG instead of my PVHES 18mm gong because the PVHES are sold out more often than regular stems. Also I always need a backup stem.

Thanks for the welcome, CarolKing! Yes I have been seriously considering getting the newer model for those exact reasons... well, for the being able to use while charging anyway. I did not realize that the newer stems have been improved too. I suppose I could just buy a few stems from Arizer... I don't know. The newer model is very tempting- and I really like the silver (I have black now). I've tried other portables but my heart still belongs to the Solo! Decisions, decisions...

Arizer hasn't changed the instructions with the newer model Solos. You should be able to use and charge at the same time. Just do a full charge. FCer OF suggests charging 4 hours past the solid green initially.
oh crap hahaha.....too late.

edit: okay i really don't want to sound picky but.....Am i the only one who notices flaws in new products? I unscrewed the top lid and noticed that one of the two tabs that snap the oven in place is not even snapped, the oven is not seated properly so the finger does not reach where it is supposed to click in place. i notice details that nobody else would... its a curse.

The newer stems aren't from Arizer. Planeyvape has them specially made for the Solo. Recently they have been out quite a bit of the time because they are such a popular item.

Carol:

The wood stems you seem to advocate?
Pretty well made and durable however I use glass the most.
What I'm I missing?

We all have different likes and dislikes I guess.

I need to work with it some more I guess?

My CHILLUM tip PHVES are what I use the most.

I did soak my wood stem in THC oil so I will revisit and see if this improves the performance?

It could just be my ataxia playing tricks with my pallet?

A lot of people like the wood stems.

I need to learn!

Not much gets past you.....

Aside from the unbreakable aspect (which is why I suggested it to the fellow with 15 notches in his Solo.....) they can add to your pride of ownership.

Mine is 5400 year old 'bog oak'. Half way to stone, black with open grain. Not all that pretty, really, but it trips me out to think that sucker grew and fell before the Pyramids........ It was over two thousand years old before the first mud brick was laid in the Great Wall.

Here in America things over a few hundred years old are rare indeed. I think it's cool I can own a piece of something like that. More so as a 'work of art' at a reasonable cost. Very nice for reflecting on during a thoughtful, leisurely session in the garden.

Agreed! The Bog Oak stem for my Solo is my FAVORITE for just those reasons, not forgetting to mention that the Bog Oak has a beautiful black grain, and the wood itself is very light yet very tough! I love it!!! I've got a 2nd one being made as we speak, for my Nano & Underdog!!!

I made some surfboards in 2,000 year old redwood that went to a museum.
I love wood and the history behind some of the finds. I have a blank of 2,700 wood that I will make a surfboard out of one day.

I bought my wood stem when I kept breaking glass stems in my back yard.
Then I added the 113 seal and stopped breaking glass!
I put the wood stem away and used it 2 times in 2 years.

I will pull it out tonight and try it again. However since I added the 113 seal to my SOLO it works better.

You suggested the seal!
Remember?

What size o-ring do I need for my solo stems to be tight on the solo?

113 in high temperature Silicone rubber. But the goal is not to keep them from falling out or to make them a handle (guys brag about lifting their Solo with the stem......), the idea is to simply stop the bent one from rotating.

It's not as simple as 'put a XXX in to make it tight'. You can only make it so tight and you can damage your Solo by not understanding that. It was easier before the newer thicker caps started showing up. Don't plan on clamping down with the cap to adjust the grip, that's not what it's for. Not a good place to be 'ham fisted' about if you care about your Solo......and if you don't I suggest you're in the wrong thread?

Regards.

So the O-ring that came with my pvhes works? I only want to keep my stems from rattling really

Yes, I believe so. Try the fit on the stem alone. You want it to be snug on the wide part on it's own (without the clamping action possible in the Solo). Then put the stem in the Solo, push the ring down solid on the oven top and gently screw the cover on. Test it as you slowly screw the cover on, you need to detect when the ring is just barely held by the cap and stop right there. You have lots of power with the screw threads, like a vice, you can literally push the chassis out of the tube if the fit is bad enough......kind of tough on the tabs.

The idea is the ring grips the tube without assistance further assistance. Then the cap and oven grip the ring just tight enough to hold it, not distort it any.

If you have a newer Solo, most likely the cap is too thick making the gap above the oven too short. You can sand the ring down to fit (as I've done a couple of times, not much fun....) or do as another Member suggested simply put a piece of tape on the cap to keep it from turning further. My beater Solo (a $65 used one from PIU has an inch long piece of tape doing just this duty.....it's battery might have been trash, the bottom plate cracked in several places, the oven seal wallowed out worse than any of my other units but it's soul was strong. A new battery to fix the power part (it still ran on PA of course), the ring and tape to fix the wobble, some epoxy work on the broken base and some repair washers put it back in the game. A bit of stick on felt on the bottom and touch up on the dings and scratches and it's standing tall, ready for duty.

First impressions... Wow. :o A little goes a long way in the SOLO. The flavor is amazing. Simple to use. This is mainly for my parents who are 70+ Yrs old. I taught my mom ( and myself) how to use it in <5 minutes. Dad will try tomorrow. I'm trying to pry his trusty glass pipe (and the combustion that goes with it) out of his hands.
Edit: The stem dropped down to the proper level after it got hot. I guess I didn't push it in hard enough. The bent stem spins like a top.

Couldn't you make a metal bracket to put behind the plastic bottom to prevent cracking? do you void warranty by replacing batteries?

edit: ^^ agreed very happy with my purchase

Solod out.
I miss this thread. I sold my solo so I haven't been here in a while. I wish I could say I'm missing it because I've replaced it with something that suits me better, but she was a great vaporizer. It lasted six months of abuse before I had to use the warranty. Great customer service too. I'm hoping they release a new version soon. Not too many changes needed. Just a bit more pocket friendly.
