Is heat soaking it worth it? I've heard other members do it but I always thought it seemed unnecessary
For me it depends on the herb e.g., heat soaking the heavier trichomed bud like kandy kush yields a denser vapor than the lesser endowed bud, and also the drier the herb the less value in heat soaking.

excuse my ignorance but what is heat soaking? :hmm:
Load your dry stem with herb, mount your stem on the fired-up Nano, let it sit for a few minutes so the herb can soak up the heat, then draw in that thick herb vapor.

Conduction plays a greater role when heat soaking (the glass bowl heats up hotter and longer, and cooks the herb that's closest to the inner bowl edge). Then when you inhale, convection takes over - then hold on to your hat!

I wasn't getting instant Vapor until @flotntoke told me to heat soak it :). I don't heat soak long maybe 30 seconds, but it works.

A little update after playing around: earlier wen combusted the screen got ruined and I couldn't clean the black off, so I popped in a new one into the 14mm adjust-a-gong but this time moved the load a little further from the heater, turned down the nano to 7.25(instead of 7.5) and what do you know, a perfect match. 6 good d020-w white walling hits of not just tasty but potent vapor. The load was dark brown but not black like some loads I had earlier, reminds of the solo avb or abv. I'm really glad I got it down for now (thanks for the help).

Arghh wtf.. after I wrote this reply I tried to take the gong of my nano and it cracked.. No comment at the moment.. What a buzz kill..

Ah man that blows........talk about opposing emotions in quick succession..........count to 10........... Have you got stems for dry use? I always use it dry and find that 6 is a nice spot if you have yr screen about 2cm from the metal/ceramic spikey type heater! (my technical terminology is amazing i know!!!!) I find it a pleasure to use dry but thats just herb and occasionally pollen,we dont get shatter and wax and all that good stuff round my way. Unless i make it myself and i'm a lazy git!

Slowly but surely getting the hang of this. Still occassionally get frustrated because either the load won't brown enough, or it'll blacken. I've realized that putting a cloth at the end while doing dry hits (as I was, to catch the great deal of dust that comes through), I don't get enough control of the pull. Problem is I'm used to a sipper like the MFLB at hand, and the E-nano is a big hitter, so I find myself using up to 8 or 10 grams a day because I keep taking huge hits every twenty minutes, heh. Found that my sweet spot temp-wise is variable based on kind of bud, but tends to hover around 7. I accidentally threw some oregano into the mix today (dropped a little of the load into plate while eating pizza, it got mixed with some oregano but I threw it in anyway - hey, I'm running low, don't judge) and it tasted so good! Anyone else tried this?

How much do you load in the stem and how much draws did you take from that..i experimented with 0.05 to 0.01... i have to say the first draw always tastes the best.. but after that i think most of the essential oils of the herb are gone.... and i will get 3 to 6 draws which the flavor isn t as good as the first draw but vapor... so i started to experiment with smaller loads 0.01 because i can t spend to much herb but wanted the incredible first draw taste... ok so but now i get less vapor.. i am in to vaping for 2 or 3 months now.... so to say there is a tradeoff between taste, vapor and efficency in vaping... it would be paradise if every draw tastes like the first draw of the stem and i wouldn t have to use to much herb and yes of course visible vapor is also important... thats no complain ... i am happy with my nano.. but i am always taste wise after the first draw ...its flavor heaven... i would wish to have enough herb to just take this flavorful first hit and damp the rest.. but i can t...

Whats your routine using the nano... temp... load size... screen of the adjust a bowl placment... drawing fast or slow...

Mine is temp most of the time 6.5 ... load size 0.02 to 0.05g ...screen 1.5 to 2 cm away from the side of the stem where i load.. drawing slow and more sipping the constantly drawing... i use the the table lamp watching the vapor building up in the stem then sipping then stop wait for building vapor in stem sip and repeat... hope that makes sense...
And as i said i like the nano its the vaping process not the nano that after the first hit the flavor is gone... same with volcano (after first bag)... same with cera (after first draw...) ...

I think you're doing everything correctly, but if it's more fresh taste you're after following the first hit, all you have to do is stir your load to expose fresh herb to new heat. Let us know if this helps you.

Also I've found (as other people have stated) I get more flavor, but less dense vapor when I use the whole nugget unground. Takes a bit more work to stir it up between hits, but there's so much more flavor

Have you tried using organic cotton in the dry stem as others in this thread have?

And are you smoking good bud? Have you considered concentrates? I'd call myself a moderate user (vaper? I can't use smoker now, and user sounds too addict-y) and I use less than your daily total in a typical week; even when I'm consuming a heavy amount for me, 2g/day feels like a lot.

EDIT @Ratchett response: How do you grind it up? I tried doing this, but maybe mine is too dense; all I feel like I did was manage to turn the tiny bud into a lot of crumbs that were subsequently pushed through the glass screen.

My grinder is all but redundant these days.....only used for solo sessions(that is with my solo, not by myself) Get a gram make 15 tiny wee nugs with it and that to me is a really good day i'd say my nugs vary in size from say .02 to point one. I use either a bamboo skewer to stilr or my missuss' cuticle tool(wooden) much to her disdain!!!

I don't use the all glass stem, so I can't use force to crush my herb. Instead I take 1 or 2 nice long draws to partially dry it out and then use a toothpick to squish the herb against the side walls of the stem. Usuaully after the 4th or 5th draw it grinds up really well with minimal effort and I get one really NICE vaporcloud in the middle of my session when the herb is ground to the right consistency.

I don't use whole nuggets often because I'm usually a cloud-chaser and like to milk my glass pieces, so I use my SCS grinder to get an even grind.

Okay, gotcha. I was trying it, but it got my reclaim cotton about 10x dirtier with small particulate matter. Felt like I had to be doing something wrong. The best clouds I'm getting are using about 6mm in height in the 14mm gong packed tight and heatsoaked, then stirred right before smoking. With that tiny bit I can 1 hit milk a bong. Grinded upside down with a space case. I tried a friend's mflb finishing grinder for that and combusted enough to cherry it : \.

The 19mm adjustable GonG is thicker than the 14mm. But I've had issues with mine - The 19mm has formed a horizontal crack and might break at anytime - so I keep that as a backup only (haven't used it in weeks since I got my nano)

These days, I only use the 14mm and 19mm GonGs made by Joda Glassworks (@VaPeD&CoNfUsEd ) - They seem to be made of better quality glass, both have held up quite well to my abuse (even clinking them against other glass while hot! )

6mm away from the heat port? Omf, I usually keep my herb about 2mm away from the heat port! I like it nice and toasty - Toss on the nano, let it pre-heat for 15 seconds, and start drawing very slow. Of course I'm also running mine around 7.0 most of the time (I turn it down to 6.5 for pre-work sessions, but otherwise, 7 is my favorite).

if i am using the adjust a bowl stem i first load a nug and after the first draw i crush it with the epik in the stem and so on... with the all glass you can t do that because the holes are to big and there will float particels... but if you want you can first use the all glass and then the adjust ....

It turns out I'm really bad at estimating small distances. This is about my ideal setup. Hard pack, heat soak, stir and 1 hit it (probably 2 in a stem; 1 if i use the 14mm GonG)

I love this thread..........don't comment much cause i'm still learning new things everyday with this wonderful little lump of Maple. You guys.....who commented on my first thread 'Last chance Saloon' (and i hope you know who you are!!!) and steered me toward this product are legendary. Thank you again @ACE OF VAPE for the product and @Ratchett and @Caligula and @Enchantre for replying to my call and started this whole love affair. I have so many wants now but the wife(to be) still ain't on board haha and i let her control the purse strings cause i would just go mad. So so many things i want for my Nano but in time i will build up an arsenal of weapons........haha that's my monday wake and vape fully underway and thats probably why i've written a feckin dissertation instead of the wee comment i intended!!!!! No glass so got both vapes on the go packing one stem while balancing the nano on my knee while i suck and pack the Solo stem at the same time! Who says men cannae multitask?

Haha, I'm loving my E-Nano - some unexpected car troubles last week has affected my medicinal budget for the month and right now I'm down to my last few buds. Instead of running my stash dry I've switched to vaping my low-temp ABV and using my stash of reclaim soaked cotton.

Taste isn't the best, but I run them through my large diffusion rig (12-tree perc ash catcher) and they seem medicate quite well (and it's saving me money!)

@fregglepops Glad you like your lil Nano!

Team NO SLEEP!
I sent an email to nadia a few days ago, regarding the orientation of my block of wood. I hope she got it, I did not receive any response. Hopefully they put the eyelets at the top:)

What has been the typical recent wait time, from order to delivery?
I am in no dire rush but just sooo excited!

I am hopeful it will be under two weeks... the anticipation is tremendous!!!

What is everyone's favorite way to use their Nano? Dry or wet?

@FlyingLow Honestly I can't decide which I like better! Both are truly mind blowing.. Dry is easy but I can't seem to do a "2 hit extraction" with just the stem, Too much thick thick vapor!
I use dry when I want to relax and have a nice sesh (~ 10 min), water when I want the straight-to-da-dome hits the nano is famous for (2 hit extraction:D).

I think that my GonG has seen more use though because I love to see my d020 milk up :luv:

@FlyingLow - USPS Priority tracking indicates that your exotic wood has reached Andy. May I suggest that you PM Andy in addition to your email to Nadia, and include in your PM a copy/paste of the picture with a description of your design/orientation desires. Andy will respond I'm sure, and I'm doubly sure he's going to create a masterpiece for you that you have not yet imagined! Two weeks is typically the turn-out time from Andy's receipt to shipment to you, give or take a few days! Please be sure to share some nice sharp bright picks for our FC friends! I can't wait to see your newborn Nano!!!
