Herb Grinders

Those cheap electric coffee/spice grinders will certainly do the trick,
but care must be taken to avoid powder.
If you want to check out keif boxes go to ebay and search for "pollen box" ;)

As mentioned, the pollen box was my other solution, but I know very little about them, which also would lead to wanting more of a knoweldgeable reccomendation on where to go in that regard, if I do go that route (I could see myself doing it though, grinding up a bulk at a time and then dumping into the pollen box for sifting/storage).

@spincut, I believe @Vitolo, praises his Krups coffee grinder for fineness, maybe he'll chime in when he gets the time.

I use a 4 piece SCS as my main driver. I spear my bud to the lid, and press the 3piece portion to it sideways, spin back and forth, then free spin both ways until I feel no resistance. Only then do I turn it upright to let it fall through the holes spinning and tapping the sides. I end up with a fine grind that so far has worked great with my Plenty, Solo and Silver Surfer, but not quite fine enough for MFLB.

I do the same sideways thing with my space case, and it does work "ok", but yeah, not ideal, plus I do sometimes worry about kief being dumped back into the main chamber (less of a problem now that it's gotten some use though).

And yeah, the "powder" problem is what makes me wary of anything coffee grinder-esque. I don't imagine the SCS works any different or better than my space case model (in fact from what I can see they seem of very similar designs, except perhaps the coating and titanium option I got?).

I do praise the Krupps, but it can surely take the meds TOO FAR into the powder zone if "engaged" for too long. Just a touch... or you are pulverizing.
MFLB users like it...
I use it for making ABV into almost a flour fine powder to cook with.
For average every day vaping, I admit the krupps is overkill.

Every time I see the name of this thread, I think that it would be cool if somebody with the last name of Grinders had a kid and named him Herb.

Well, you do have a point..... then again, I had a nice and VERY long session before work this morning.

I recommend a 2 piece grinder, it's cheaper and easier to get the fine grind you're looking for. Unless I'm making a large amount of kief, I prefer not to waste my time with separating pollen and just put it all in my vape. If you just want to give sifting a try, there's some inexpensive options at PuffItUp.

They do work different... the SC grinds your herb together in between the diamond teeth, the SCS uses sharp teeth to cut your material into shreds. Shredding vs grinding.

Here's a gif provided by @Magman116 back on page 155 that shows how the SCS cuts.

Awesome! I never saw that gif before!! Thanks @Vitolo you've confirmed my belief that the SCS was the right purchase for me I'm loving the consistent grind.

And to be honest, I purchased mine from Amazon prime through a vendor which was most likely not authorized. But my grinder looks and feels real (certainly doesn't appear to be a knockoff!), and there are no nicks, scratches, or imperfections of any kind. I am 100% pleased with this grinder.

Figured I throw in my latest exp with a Mendo Mulcher. I liked it.

It belongs to a friend. I had some material that my grinder didn't do so well with. The Mendo Mulcher pulverized it like it was nothing. Don't know if I'd get that particular brand, but I see the benefit of a good grinder versus my el cheapo.

Very interested in that sharp shredda grinder. Who has it and likes it
Hello there @berman1125: First post here on FC but I have been lurking and creeping for some time. Never thought my first post would be about a grinder but I feel compelled to get back to you on your Sharp Shredda question. There's just something about this little grinder! I usually try to buy American and have another more expensive grinder but I read some interesting reviews many pages back and the price was right so I picked one up. It operates extremely smoothly and I am completely smitten with the lift out storage chamber/kief seperater. Everything is machined quite well and slides in an out very smoothly. Put a coin in the herb chamber and this grinder turns into a veritable kief factory! Really like that aspect cuz sometimes I like to turbocharge a bowl. The grind seems just fine to me (though I have never used the hallowed SCS) and works equally well in my Davinci Ascent, Extreme Q, and Vaporblunt 2.0. It was only 25 bucks delivered with AmazonPrime delivery and I got it literally the next day. I bet you'll like it. G Hog

I asked about a month or two ago, but I'm actually nearing the date where I will finally be be buying a grinder designed to last me a lifetime and be my favorite companion. Is the Santa Cruz Shredder (most likely a 4 piece I will get) still the best & most recommended grinder to get or have there been developments in the grinder world since I last asked?

It's still the top one by consensus, there are a few other quality brands but nothing shreds like an scs.
Good to know.

It's about double the cost of a Large to get a Jumbo. Is that price increase justifiable to you guys & girls? I don't mind paying for something premium, but there is also a bit of support behind getting the 3 piece as opposed to the 4 on the last few pages. Not sure where my heart lies

Dude, I got the "Small" (which is bigger than the Mini). And the small is freaking massive for me - I almost wish I had gotten the mini!

The only new development has been the release of a 3piece version of the SCS which eliminates the kief collect and adds a rounded bottom to the catch compartment so nothing is stuck in the corners. I'm a little annoyed as I almost wish I had bought that 3 piece over the 4 piece (but it wasn't released until a month after my purchase) - The kief collection is nice, but the screen is so dang tight on the SCS that you'll hardly catch any kief compared to lower quality grinders!. Oh well, I'm happy with my 4 piece, and can't imagine needing another grinder anytime soon!

Hi, new here to FC but I just ordered my new SC from massdrop, I had a Santa Cruz Shredder a while back but it was a small 2 piece. After a while it got stuck and I was unable to grind anymore which led to an hour of trying to pry it open to get my bud out. After getting it open I just tossed the grinder, it was very difficult to deal with so I went for the Space Case this time. I hope I wont be disappointed, but I have heard amazing feedback with the Space Case Grinders.

Why didn't you try to clean the Santa Cruz Shredder that you had instead of throwing it out?

If you don't clean the Space Case grinder that you just ordered, it will eventually do the same thing.

I did clean it, I cleaned it until it was spotless but yet the build quality was totally off. I never dropped it or anything either I guess I just had bad luck with it.

Build quality was off? How so?
Whenever I tried to grind anything it would get extremely difficult to turn the grinder, it kept getting more and more difficult even with frequent cleaning. I honestly don't know what the problem was, my only guess is that it was fit too tightly, putting the top and bottom together was always a struggle and I would have to wiggle it in for it to actually close.

You did not focus your cleaning attempts on the right spot.
The difficulty was likely on the outer surface of the inner lip... the part that the top slides against.
Good luck with your Space Case.
It is second easiest to clean and keep clean in my view.... second only to the SCS.
