TV Shows - General Discussion

I forgot to mention that Dr. Who does trump ALL television, past, present, and future. He is a time lord after all . . . :)

Absolutely!!

David Tennant was my favorite Doctor, but I am going to give Capaldi a chance. At least he's not Matt Smith.

I haven't tried the bridge yet. Have you checked out the strain?
I have been keeping up with extant, I can see there's a lot of fantastic talent and big bucks involved but I haven't gotten very into it yet. Maybe it's the writing, it seems a bit heavy-handed (to me), or maybe it's the storyline; is it about a little android kid or an immaculate alien conception or the upcoming dynamic between the two or what. So far I don't find it any more compelling than shows that I can barely justify viewing, like under the dome or true blood but I'll keep after it. I do like halle berry's cell phone quite a bit.

Been DVR'ing The Strain. Haven't watched any of it yet.

I gave Under the Dome about three episodes than I had to quit.

The Bridge is excellent. VERY well done. Ya got to pick it up from Season 1 though. The only thing that is a bit of a challenge is that it has multiple story lines going on that is sometimes, for me, a bit hard to keep track of but nowhere near as bad as Game of Thrones. Great acting, writing, direction.........watch it. The lead character has undiagnosed Aspergers which is kinda unique in that it puts a bit of a different spin on things.

My face is melting...
East Bound and Down : I'm deep into season two on amazon prime which imo is better than S1

I'm not sure what it is about the show...Danny McBride has playing the part of asshole nailed and the character of Kenny Powers is an abhorrent prick who you just can't wait to see fail (and you know he will)

Maybe it's the talented cast and excellent acting...but it's most likely the "car wreck" effect which makes it difficult to divert your eyes.

Under The Dome was a really great book. I've been trying to watch the DVR episodes of Under The Dome on CBS. The movie or TV version is never as good as the book.

Kinda like the Bridges of Madison County. The movie isn't as good as the book.

I like Crossbones with John Malkovich. I've watched 4 of the 5 episodes so far. It's about Blackbeard, the setting is 1700s. The English army is after Blackbeard.

I didnt like the show :(
After the season 1 finale I just gave up. Too drawn out and tbh; for a show based on people's reactions to a crisis and character development, it didn't shine in those areas as much as it did in it's lesser focused drawing point: the action and adventure of it. That aspect felt a bit dull and underdeveloped to me :(

Anyone check out "The Lottery" yet? The pilot was kinda interesting.

"Set in a world destined for extinction as women have stopped having children. When remarkably 100 embryos are successfully fertilized, a national lottery is held to decide the surrogates."
"Genre : Post-Apocalyptic, Conspiracy Thriller"; right up my alley, I'll check it out thanks :brow:

I watched both episodes of the Lottery. I like it a lot. Not much on the TV during the summer. I haven't been watching very much.

I know it was time for the series Dexter to go. But I miss really good shows like that and the Sopranos. We know they won't reprise that series. RIP Tony Soprano, AKA James Gandolfini.

The Lottery sounds interesting! What network?

Some of my current favourite shows:

Ray Donovan
Nurse Jackie
Blacklist
The Following

I just started watching The Leftovers and I'm starting to really like it.

Any other recommendations considering the shows I currently watch?

Edit: shows I really miss:

Dexter
Entourage
Six feet Under

This will scare the guys away, The Lottery is on Lifetime. I like Nurse Jackie, The Blacklist and I have watched some of The Following.

I miss: Entourage, Six Feet Under too.

It's such a long time between seasons on some of these shows. Game Of Thrones won't be on until next spring. Same with Nurse Jackie, probably next spring before it will be on again.

I like some of the PBS series and I like Nova.

I know. The seasons are way too short for some of these shows. I think Nurse Jackie was only like eight episodes this season. That's not much viewing time considering each episode is only 25 minutes Hahaha....

I'll have to try an episode of The Lottery very soon!

I LOVE the script writing in The Bridge.

A banker was busted by the press for laundering money for the cartel and he leaves his office, goes for a casual stroll in front of his bank, pulls out a gun, puts in his mouth and pulls the trigger.

The guy who initially busted him says to his partner, "All I'm sayin' is blowing your brains out at work is a rookie move. Ya know, have the decency to kill yourself in your own bathtub. Grab a handful of pills, a fifth of Stoli, throw on a little Captain Beefheart and enjoy the ride".

I REALLY like this show. Kinda has a Breaking Bad kinda vibe to it.

You're drawing a long bow there my friend. I would imagine you not understanding a lot of Aussie cultural references woud draw you to your wrong conclusion;) Aussie one was the tits:tup:

My picks are nearly all American though.

Cop Dramas; The Shield, The Wire.

Adult Cartoon; Rick and Morty, Southpark.

Adult Comedy; It's always Sunny in Philadelphia, Community.

Kids Cartoon; Adventure Time, Rocko's Modern Life.

Scifi; Tenant and Eccleston Dr Who's(Matt Smith's storyline was crappy, excitedly hoping Capaldi delivers), Both Galacticas except for the last 10 minutes (WTF?)

My favourites though are the British sitcoms and series like The Mighty Boosh, Father Ted, Ideal, The Inbetweeners , The IT Crowd, The Young Ones and Black Books. Everything there is immensely re-watchable and brilliant.

Fresh meat is a quirky and funny darkish comedy from the UK. Love the Boosh and rocko.
