Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Hey. The same thing happened to my Ascent that I sent back to DaVinci. You must have my Ascent that they "repaired" sent back out to you. LOL
Go ahead and get the return process going. It would not hurt to request a new replacement unit considering the lackluster history of your Warrenty service.
Good luck, I hope you have a backup vaporizer

When I emailed Cristine my information I did request a new unit for peace of mind. However, I received a voicemail today from Aaron today, stating that this isn't how the warranty works. He stated that they would be replacing parts in my unit when they verified it wasn't working, and that I would be issued a new serial number.

However, I'm a little weirded out by this. Number 1, my original unit was a 1AA, and the replacement I was sent was a 2AA, both written on the box and stamped on the unit itself.

I'm not sure where to go from here. If they actually are able to repair the problem I'll be quite happy. However, should my unit go south on me again this really has the potential to sour me against the company.

Again, I really enjoy my ascent. When it is working, I consider it to be the best vape of my lot. But so far the warranty work is not impressing me.

Should I be more vocal with my concerns to DaVinci or should I keep my fingers crossed?

I'm glad that working for you. You might also try going to the Cheap Glass Bubbler sub tread. Go to General Discussions, find glass. Very reasonably priced glass water tools.

Question - do you even read what you write? Or do you just spit out words on a paper and hope they make sense? Glad you like the Ascent, but hot damn my head hurts reading your posts

People never said the PNWT will not work with the Ascent, we simply said it doesn't work WELL - sure you can use a bubbler with the Ascent, but it produces so little vapor it's almost not worth using.

When I want water filtration, I use my other vapes. When I want portability and stealth, I use my Ascent without any attachments.

@CheriePie : welcome on board!

From memory the improved bowl seal was implemented already in the first production batch (and if not, shortly after) I think the skulls skin came later anyways so you should be good for that one leak. It's easy to check, just look for a thin lip extending up on the silicone around the bowl.

For the buddy rim leak refer to either post #5733 or use the GonG adapter or Ed's wood stems.

For the wires breaking, it's a matter of luck... we have users with old devices working flawlessly but we also got 2Axx failure reports... and as @OF said serial numbers are possibly only of limited value here.

I know you @Norcalsun think that if it has been designed to be opened all the way it should work as expected, but there's obviously a difference between what they expected and what we really got in the end. It wasn't designed to leak either, yet...

...or put differently, bad "design decisions" (underlooking strain relief and thinking the buddy rim silicone would sit perfectly in place) led to the current situation...

I've posted some pics of my device on photobucket. Maybe some of you can tell by looking at them if it's got the more recent fixes. (Someone, I forget who, also mentioned a difference in the indentations surrounding the straw on the buddy ring from the old to the new.)

@KeroZen the thin silicone lip you are referring to is present on the top half (near the glass straw). On the bottom part next to the bowl however, it's more of an indentation where the upper raised lip would fit into.

Notice on the last couple pics that there's a slight gap where the 2 parts meet, only visible from the front. (The back of the unit does not have any such gap.) Not sure if that's causing any kind of air leak though. Doesn't really feel like it but I don't have another Ascent to compare it against.

So far it seems to be working well enough, though I do have to pack down the puck a couple times during the session. Flowers should be here tomorrow though. I also notice that a half filled bowl is gone through quicker than I'd expect. Would that be related to air leaks? (I haven't yet done the fix @KeroZen recommended with the straw and silicone top cap.)

I really like using a gong or a Wong with the Ascent rather than the stock stem. IMO it seems to work better. I could just be my personal preference too.

Me too - I always use the GonG when at home. I think this is caused by the length of the GonG or WonG stems - Because they aren't retractable, you can push them down firm against the bottom of the opening - this creates a relatively air-tight vapor path which ensures better performance.

Want to do a test? Try a session with your GonG stem pressed firmly against the bottom of that vapor path. Notice the draw restriction and performance. Now pull the GonG stem up 10 or 20 mm from the bottom and you'll notice the performance mimic's the standard stems (less draw restriction, cooler vapor thanks to the air leak, smaller clouds).

When I'm traveling and take my Ascent with the standard retractable glass stem mouthpiece, I prefer to pull out mouthpiece only 10 to 15mm rather than pulling the stem entirely out. Performance seems better (bigger clouds).

@CheriePie : you got the last version indeed... and yes the small "lip" tends to destruct itself with time (and my bad it's on the upper part not the lower as I said)

The puck shouldn't unpack unless A) you didn't pack it enough in the first place B) you drew too hard C) you shook the device... or D) your material was of fluffy consistence and became looser as it dried.

To make your bowl last longer start at low temps and increase the temperature once each level is depleted. Also try to find a flash light or use your phone and hold it near your mouth when you exhale, it helps to visualize how much more vapor there is in reality. Do that a couple times to train your brain to associate the taste and feelings in your lungs to "good hit", then you will be able to stop making a fixation on visible vapor exhale.

My code is 2A15061951

All I can make out

Is that the latest revision?

We have been told, by the maker, that the number is not a reliable key to the age/model/version of the unit. Not only aren't the numbers sequential (?) but he has told us they reused numbers with upgraded units.

If you got it new from an authorized dealer it's most likely the freshest version possible.

And yes, we've discussed at length how unfair this is........... It is legal, rational in some cases IMO, and 'not uncommon'. There is no legal requirement for numbers (or markings of any kind). Consider other vapes, I bet most don't have serial numbers at all?

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the forum, this is my first post. I discovered this site from doing a bunch of google searches on the Ascent. After reading various posts on the Ascent, I decided to make an account and share my experiences with this new vaporizer.

I bought my unit from a little kiosk in a mall back in march of this year. I had never seen it before but was getting tired of my MFLB and really wanted something new. I was hesitant and very unsure about how this device would perform but I figured based off the price, and the reviews I read off my phone prior to purchasing, that it would be better than the MFLB(doesn't take much). When I got home and finally got to try it I was blown away lol. I was so happy to find something that worked so well. It's so sleak and efficient. I felt whole again.

I'd been enjoying it for some time, still thinking it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, when one day it began shutting off on me while heating up. I figured it was just a fluke, waited a bit, let it sit on the charger, turned it on, and it began working as normal. Unfortunately it wasn't just a fluke, more like a sign of things to come. Bout a week later or so I go to charge it and it doesn't charge. Unit still had some juice left but wouldn't charge. My world comes crashing down, wahh wahh :'( ''''' {~}

I called customer service and inquired about the warranty, got an RMA #, and sent it out. Other than the device not charging there was another issue with it as well. My unit had a blemish/smudge/imperfection on the LED screen, and it appeared to be on the inside. This bothered me quite a bit at first when I purchased it but I decided to let it go and just enjoy the damn thing.

Now I'm playing the waiting game with customer service. I really hope they give me a new unit instead of trying to repair it. In the end I guess I'd just be happy with something that will work but I'd prefer a new unit. One reason being, I had to clean it vigorously in order to safely ship it; this caused some of the exterior plastic/finish to fall off. The reason I had to clean it so vigorously is because of the damn indentation in the bowl that collects resin along with whatever else, and it's nearly impossible to clean those corners. It nearly drove me insane. lol anyway other than that the stupid thing is great when it works. As long as DaVinci customer service delivers I'll be a happy camper.

On a side note, I've been hearing about these "glass flowers". Where do I purchase these? I've google'd and came up with nothing. These aren't the little containers that come with the Ascent, are they? Anywho hope my story helps someone in someway. If you have any feedback, wanna shoot the shit, or know about those glass flowers, post that shizz. Later

First off, howdy, welcome to the forum and all the fun!

Sorry to hear your vape is in the shop. You're not alone there (although it seems most have little/no problems), but problems seem to be eventually made right. Good show you have a backup, a very important lesson to have one.......lest you be tempted to backslide to blazing in the eventual bad times. In the end, it's only a tool not some work of art. It's value is in it's utility which can fail (like most tools you can think of). Best wishes for a speedy recovery?

I guess I'm to blame for the glass flowers mess. These, IIRC, are the ones I used in Nigel's spare Ascent when he was so kind as to loan it to me to test.

They make a big difference. As does fine grind, medium pack and giving it plenty of time to recover between hits. The major insight is, I think, that the maximum temperature is just before you start to hit. It does nothing but cool off (unlike the MFLB) once the draw starts. Serious drops, I was able to get over 100 degrees F (yes, from 400F to 300F) by honking on it. Clearly not conducive to making vapor?

Regards, hug your LB.......it can get you through if you keep the load dry, grind fine, battery charged and shake, shake, shake.......

I agree about the LB, I've been using it and today although it seems to take more from the user than the Ascent, it still works fairly well. There's just a technique to it and the Ascent is convenient, again, when it works... Thanks for the hearty welcome

Its good to have yall back @Davinci_vaporizer ! Ive been following this thread for a while now but Im still sticking with my old davinci because of the problems, but it seems like its getting better and less and less people are having to send their units back so it may be time to try this baby out!
We are constantly making improvements to our vaporizers. I would definitely say its time to try one out; if you have been using a DaVinci, the Ascent will blow your mind. ;)

I'm sure DV will take care of you ... likely you will get a new unit based on experience, but I would guess it would depend on the work involved in the repair.

Quick ? Not to interrupt. Is this vape conduction or convection?

Mostly conduction. (there is "some" convection ... maybe ... but conduction is the primary way of heating)

I'd say conduction then a lot of radiant heat once it's going... If it was conduction only, the bowl would be green on the top and black near the walls, whereas in practice ABV is uber uniform.

@Davinci_vaporizer : glad someone from you company is back, now could you please give us an update concerning the air leak / revised buddy rim silicone? We're also waiting for your official spacer, everyone is using glass flowers this is ridiculous! Btw the Indica comes with a spacer and everyone is happy.

I'm sorry, I don't agree with the "lot of radiant heat" part. Heat transfer by radiation is generally very poor at the temperatures we're dealing with and it only happens in significant amounts (like we need to make vapor) when the temperature differences between source and load are big. The bigger the difference the better. The bathroom heater works because the element is glowing red and the room is not. Remember, in that case the room is also trying to heat the heater with IR, it's just a very very modest effort relative to the one coming the other way.

The tests I ran seem to say it's a conduction vape. With excellent temperature control (quite accurate). That by conduction brings the load up to uniform temperature over time (probes in different locations confirmed this). Much like say Iolite? This happens over time (which is why giving plenty of time between hits for recovery is so important). Once the hit starts that temperature drops (and quite a lot sometimes) since convection is drawing the heat off faster than conduction can replace it.

The ABV is uniform because of this (the equalizing time between hits) I think.

"All conduction vapes are not created equal" is, I believe, a safe thing to say. In practice this guy is way different than say Vapman? Asking 'conduction, convection or radiation' doesn't answer the whole question IMO, a somewhat more complex understanding than 'paper or plastic' is needed? Thermodynamics is just not that simple......which is no doubt why they prattle on so about it in school?

No matter the technical aspects of the Ascent, I think there's little doubt it can give excellent performance under the right conditions?
