Hi Iwien, how are you getting on with you new PD ? iv just got into log vapes because because i want my weed to start going further. Do you notice a slight increase in high using logs ? I do for some reason. I remember reading about the PD a while back and watching Tom make them on youtube and how cool they were. But i also remember thinking that i didn't
need one because i had the best vape in the world the volcano lol.....How wrong I was  lol

So I finally found my PD: I knew it was around here, I just couldn't remember where it was. I'm kind of an Oscar-Madison-type: but if I scrabble around long enough, everything crosses my path at least once. Of course, it may take a few months.....

So before December, I never knew of the benefits of water/glass/vapor path. I never used the PD with a percolator. I found that a PD stem fits well into a 14 mm female joint and mated it with one of the fabulous water tools I won in PhotoRider's Dec auction: man, I could go back to just the PD. Water-conditioned vapor hits are where it's at!!! If I may use a phrase from my youth: "It's bitchin', man".

I think I was reluctant to try glass because I equated them with bongs, and I never liked bongs. Now I mostly vape, cooled of course, by clear glass and fresh, wholesome water. It's the American Way.

@macbill - Glad you found the joys of water and glass. For some, it really does change the level of enjoyment when it comes to vaping. Also, just hit my PD today for the first time in a while. I'm pretty sure it is on its last leg. :(

slowandsteady,
I need to replace the Car Adapter cord....it cracked on me this winter in the -40 temperature one morning and it has finally stopped working. I feel terrible for not taking better care of it.

I have bought a soldering kit to fix this cord, but I would also like to purchase a back-up cord.

Does anyone know a place where these can be purchased? Cheers

So is the PD still the standard for which all other log vaporizers are compared?

It is possible to upgrade a PD to the latest technology. I recently installed a Heat Island heater cover into a PD. It now performs just like a HI and the wood barely gets warm to the touch.

The hole is already the right depth and diameter. I just needed to drill a bigger hole through the center for the heating element and screw holes for the heater cover.

Here is how the bottom looked before I closed it up. The new heating element is just soldered directly to the power socket wires.

This PD was not charred out inside too badly which made the mod fairly easy. If the charring is really bad, I would have to install a new wooden disk inside so the heater cover could be screwed into good wood. I should be able to modify any PD regardless of the condition.

I've loved my PD ever since I got it shortly before they shut down. I haven't had any problems until recently when the core began to rattle. I would usually hit it once with the little wood thing to reset it and it was good. But now it's just constantly rattling. How would I go about fixing this? Just add another one of those "horseshoe" shaped clips(and where would I get one)? Or a more complicated fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to get another clip from a hardware store.

Thanks Alan. I'll pass this on to my son but his heat exchanger almost fell all the way through so there must be quite of of charring going on.

I have a brand new PD that's never been used though so I'm thinking about it as well.

Will mull it over and get back to ya.

Thanks for the quick response.

I must say, I like the idea of something with so much history as a PD being updated to a more modern design. Something sorta "Frankenstein's Monster" to the idea, but... maybe the best of both worlds?

Connecting the past with the present. I'm feelin' it. I hope you go for it, @lwien. You'd certainly have one of the rarest vaporizers out there.

Sort of like getting a hover conversion in Back to the Future.

Been vaping the PD @ 14.9 volts through CentiZen's power supply. Lear Mini beaker paired with these two is just a joy. Holy fuck! Super duper micro loads with a tiny chunk of bubble on top is mind-bending.

Glad you're having fun, I really like the PD. But I'd be careful here, you're running it at 50% (actually 54%) more power than it was designed for, it's running hotter than intended.

PDs are known to eventually 'wear out' as the wood dry and degrades slowly from the normal heat, taking many months of continuous heating to have any problems, but plenty of broken PDs from this are discussed in this thread. And you're running significant hotter. It's reasonable, I think, to expect yours to fail all the sooner because of that.

I'd suggest you limit the hours you put on it in this way. Otherwise it's yours to enjoy.

I understand and had shared your concerns for quite some time, but finally I'd mustered the courage to go past 12... waaay past twelve!:rockon:I just kept slowly turning up the dial until vapor finally appeared.

From my findings both the PD and CRZ run way high like this. All of my other vapes are in the range of 10-12 volts. Took just two hits of bubble on top of barely any weed this morning at 14.7v and was so fuckin' fried at my workplace!! It was nearly unmanageable. I cannot recall being this high since back in high school.:ko:

So that's my new favorite vaping setup of late:

- wall wart from a Toasty Top
- feeding into CentiZen's variable power supply.
- Purple-Days vaporizer
- stock PD nylon glass adapter
- Lear FTC mini beaker

oh yeah almost forgot...
- Bodhi Pine Queen with said bubble hash on top:leaf:

And below is an old video of the same setup somewhere in the 14 volt range IIRC:

It's a shame these aren't made anymore, a few years back I was pretty hyped to get one down the line, not that I think I'll be disappointed with my Underdog, but always sucks to see a company go under.
