Having something strange happening with my replacement Pax. I got this back from Ploom about a month ago, it's brand new. The first time I cleaned it, I did it like my old one, I take the mouthpiece off and start cleaning. Well this new Pax continues to heat even when the mouthpiece is removed. I never had to before, but now I have to take the mouthpiece off, let it heat up and sit for 5 minutes with the mouthpiece off. It should not continue to heat with the mouthpiece removed. Another thing that is happening and not really an issue, but is strange, the temp adjuster button flashes sometimes while it's heating. I have never seen this. I actually took video of the button flashing with the mouthpiece removed, once I get it uploaded to my computer I will post it.

I love this device but after a year and a half with it, I think I am finally done. I can not in good conscious recommend this device to anyone- it is just too problematic. Please Ploom, if you are reading this, make your device the absolute best portable vape on the market and GIVE IT A POWER SWITCH!!! For the love of all that is sacred, ditch the stupid, fancy mouthpiece power switch system. Ploom is great company, that is for sure. They serviced me very well and I am sure if I called them about this issue I would get a brand new one sent out. But it is a shame that the downfall of this device is this "power switch" mouthpiece. I may actually screw the warranty- because what good is it really if it's always in the mail- and try to install an on/off switch on my own. It really is the only downfall of the Pax, but it is a fatal flaw. Sad day here...

the sensor is dirty clean around the inside spring to fix ,

and i agree ploom needs to update this device the button placement being so close to the vapor pathway is a big issue (those using the lube i use wont have that issue however)

personally i like to see them make bigger model one that would hold a 5000 battery have a bigger oven
a metal divide in the middle of the oven with control to heat left or right side or both sides of the oven
and a fourth heat setting around 435-440 f . not going to happen but would love to see it done.

if you do end up taking it apart there is another battery that can fit 3100 battery and you might as well try my mods i came up with early on .

razor foil screen instead of there screen adds air flow small o ring to fit on inner stem (find these in auto parts used for carbs) with this vapor would not escape spring could never get dirty nor sensor
use electrical silicon on the chip (you be making it water proof ) than wrap and sew a piece of Kevlar with thin mica on sides of oven .than wrap another sheet of Kevlar around chip and battery(use hole punch to line up led light on chip this also provides some airflow to chip.)Kevlar acts as a heat shield .the mica plus kevlar around the oven keeps the heat on the oven so no heat loss less battery use

anyways go for it

Guys Im not sure why I never shared this and I dont own a pax anymore but Ill let you in on a secret of mine for the best results I ever got with my pax.

Buy a volcano concentrate pad, almost looks like a disc of steel wool. Cut it down to size so that its literally a couple hairs to big too fit the oven. With this method you can pack ANY amount of herb you want and get FULL extraction out of the load. I believe that having the concentrate pad on top of the packed herb cooks it much more efficiently and gave me bigger clouds in the end.

Not sure if any of you already do this but it works 50x times better than the screen folding trick.

So u leave the original pax screen in, pack the oven, and the cut concentrate pad on the bud?

yea screw the screen folding method, that never really worked at all for me. The pad works great and I hope someone else tries it to confirm.

Well IMO the screen did work better than with nothing but if this is better than that hell I'm all for it

...I will be obtaining at least one volcano pad tomorrow at the brick and mortar store near me...if you don't have me on ignore yet I will try to report on how it works with concentrates in Pax...

...one thing the "clone" guy liked aboot his device was that it has a power button of some sort...

...so I guess it is not really a clone...but it has a feature some guys seem to want...???...

And for those of you who like real good extraction, I stoped using a screen in my pax ages ago,
it seems like it extract even better with no screen, maybe it's just in my mind but still....

not at all, I use a small mesh screen, roll it up and stick it in the vapor path in the oven, about half way I fold it so it stays at it's place, nothing gets trough this way, I can even get great clouds and extraction with small loads and shaking the pax every now and then. No more having that dick screen trying to jump up in your eye while you're trying to make it stay in it's place ;)

yep used the pad before but would remove the pax screen and would place the herb on top on the pad
takes a little longer to heat up unless you have oil on the pad works really well.

@DogBoy what makes you think kevlar is toxic when used this way ? do you have any proof? only thing i found on wika was this:
Health
During the 1990s, an in vitro test of aramid fibers showed they exhibited "many of the same effects on epithelial cells as did asbestos, including increased radiolabeled nucleotide incorporation into DNA and induction of ODC (ornithine decarboxylase) enzyme activity", raising the possibility of carcinogenic implications.[3] However, in 2009, it was shown that inhaled aramid fibrils are shortened and quickly cleared from the body and pose little risk.[4]

however even so it's not in the vapor path the mica would prevent from even heating up and would need to reach 932 f before it could start to degrade and its uses :
Major industrial uses
so please do your research first before you say something is toxic lol.

...I have a Kevlar vest but I am not wraping my Pax oven in it...

...still, the hot air filter application is surprising...although that is surely some industrial situation and not something we breath through...

...well, the store didn't sell vocano concentrate pads as a separate item...

....maybe I will compress some ss steel wool and make a pellet that fits the Pax oven........if you don't think I might get too much microsopic stainless steel particles in the airway....

...I have heard the Pax described as a workhorse and a power house in various places aboot the site...these are attributes I have already come to appreciate...

....after a simple cleaning my Pax no longer heats with mouth piece removed...you do need to watch out for mouth piece shooting off into space...that could fuk up yer shit...

That happened to me last week. I wasn't careful and clicked the mouthpiece to turn it on and it shot right off a 3rd story balcony right onto concrete and it didn't leave a mark on it. This thing is well built. It's been dropped numerous times and it's been submerged twice, once in a jacuzzi for about 5 minutes till I realized it and it still works just like new.

Apologies for my laziness, for I'm sure it is posted in one of these pages. What is a alternate way of cleaning the vapor path. Or where, other than ploom, can I get something like they offer?

Henry81,
I am heading to lollapalooza this weekend, a 3 day concert music fest. Decided on bringing my pax because I had not brought it to my last music fest and really regretted that decision. I was completely confident in simply putting it in my bra for the entrance bag search, but my friend just warned me if I wanted to take the risk. Any input/ suggestions/ warnings?

Do they scan you with a wand? If so they'll know you've got something in there and it will probably squeal too loud for you to claim piercings. I'd remove the mouthpiece and stick the jack of a pair of earbuds in the draw tube (fits nicely), put the earbuds in, and hold it in my hand. Good luck.

...it is not likely to get past a metal detector...
There are no metal detectors just a slight pat down and a bag check

They don't scan with a wand, I was thinking about doing that. They simply just pat down and check a bag quickly. I just don't know if it's worth the risk
