The Lotus Vaporizer

Haha, you made a wise choice. Once you try it, you'll thank us. I was instantly in love after the first hit.

The Lotus does have a slight learning curve, but that's part of the fun of using this vape
So sad!
GSC two sessions left then I'm out!
Ok I have some black water and valentine do back up!
Two lotus loads with a j hook.

Dry!
Over medicated so bust out the water path!

so my wonderful wife just gave me a brand new Lotus. she is aware of my 2014 New Year's resolution to not buy any new vaporizers for an entire year. I guess in light of the fact that I gave away a few vapes (SSV went to her mother, EQ went to a friend in need) maybe she thought I deserved it? Probably has more to do with the fact that I just sold a car that I loved and put a LOT of work into... anyway

the Lotus is awesome. I am still getting acclimated to it and developing a technique, but the process is so much fun. this thing really can crank out the vapor, and delivers some very pure flavor and strong effects. I haven't combusted yet but I have blown some pretty nice clouds. love this thing dry and through water using the Hydrafoot 2.0.

one early observation (sorry if this has already been covered), when I first unpacked and cleaned the WPA and Al stem, I installed some fine stainless steel domed screens (like I use on pretty much all my vapes that require screens). I pretty quickly noticed that using domed screens resulted in a ring of less-vaped material sticking to the sides of the bowl. I flipped the dome so that it's now a "bowl" with the lowest point right in the middle. seems to work much better? should I just stick with the flat screens that came with the damn thing?

As you're quickly learning, the Lotus is very much a vaporizer that benefits from experimentation. Play with different screens and techniques and have fun with it.

Plus the no one mentioned that the vapor genie you are sucking in all those butane fumes the whole time.

has anyone actually proved that inhaling the amount of butane you are exposed to in a VG is harmful in any way?

I'll say yes there is - excessive consumption of butane can result in headaches that last for 30+ minutes. I never suffer from headaches normally, but encountered them with the Lotus (didn't make the correlation for a month). Of course when I learned to respect butane and avoid unnecessary inhalation, my headaches stopped.

Ultimately my problem was using the Lotus for a VERY long (2 hour) session non stop on weekends in a non ventilated room. My headaches were gone simply by knowing how they happened and by avoiding the inhalation of butane when I start my hit (I suspect when you first ignite the torch there is a bit of butane that escapes). I still use my Lotus indoors, but I try to avoid a super long session with the lotus unless I'm outside.

I can only imagine how bad of a headache the VG would cause after that long of a session!

Found a perfect fit for transporting your Lotus around.

That dang protruding stir pin, which is so useful in practice, makes it harder to stick in a pouch or pocket.
Here is a fair solution which offers protection and can be put away while still hot even.

Guys, who said you have to use Tane with a VG? I love the Lotus but the VG fans could use them with hemp wick and/or a candle. I don't see this as a clear cut advantage for either vaporizer. For me, what made the Lotus a better choice was mainly ergonomic factors form, fit, then function (Lotus won all 3)...

Good morning everyone, since I owned a couple of versions of the vapor genie, I'll weigh in. I had both glass editions...the bat, and sherlock. I LOVED these vapes, and were my go-to for many months. As I understand it, their basic wood model is the most popular, which is a shame, because I've heard enough to know the glass works way better.

I tried to use a regular candle flame, butane-refillable lighter, and had a lot of trouble at first. I was inhaling a lot of butane, and it tasted gross. I also had a tough time producing vapor. I then bought their VG lighter, which has the flame coming out of the side, rather than top. I could barely taste butane, sometimes never at all, and the vapor clouds were huge and thick...and delicious. Plus, a full chamber lasted a few pulls longer than the Lotus.

I sold both pieces, because I used them enough to the point where they'd get too hot to use. I regret it, because I'd probably still use them once in a while. The Sherlock was my favorite, but I loved the portability of the bat. The glass gets really hot! I sold them when I bought the lotus, because I compared side-by-side, and loved that I was inhaling no butane, and somehow you could get amazing clouds with very little herb. Plus, when I started using with glass, it was clear that I would never burn my fingers again.

Hope that helps you guys! Never did try using with hemp wick, it looked like a pain.

@Ratchett Is that headache from butane, propane, or from mercaptan?
I'm thinking butane since I usually sit on the floor when vaping (beanbag chair), I suspect the butane was settling. I really don't think it was the mercaptan since it was a delayed response - 30+ minutes

@cybrguy had a similar reaction to inhaling butane by accident and came to the same conclusion.

Propane might also be the culprit, but reading up on the MSDS sheets for butane, my symptoms matched up perfectly.

Either way, the headaches have ceased. I don't believe it was caused necessarily by the Lotus design, but more so simple carelessness around the butane. It seemed to be a cumulative affect since the headaches only came after many sessions back to back.

Great reminders of caution @Ratchett I agree! I go outside when I fill now. The butane like many other solvents will settle most likely down low in a corner from what I have gathered. I'm quite certain my water heater has kicked on with a bit extra boost from time to time bc of these tiny but numerous fills and washes, etc....

When will the V4 caps be out, approximately? I know that it's been said that they're waiting on another manufacturer, but is there an ETA? I have a nano now and love it. I've been using blunts/joints at outdoor events, but the vape has really made me realize how bad smoke tastes. I want to pick up a lotus as my next acquisition, but I'm wondering if I should wait on the new version?

Although the Lotus is a very good vaporizer, I consider it less than ideal as a portable. I can't imagine how using a torch lighter to heat the long stem Lotus at a concert would be anything approaching discreet.

Most concerts I go to are VERY okay with public smoking; they're a lot more strict about open container here. At Pride a few weeks ago a cop actually took a hit from my hand pipe before going off to do cop things.

Moreso than concerts I'm thinking of things like the all day festivals, in my car, and misc. outdoors things. For example, I'll be bringing a bowl to the local Indy course for race weekend.

EDIT If I didn't do the lotus I'd get a pen like the Dube, but (from what I can tell) I like the lotus a lot more. I'm pretty lazy about making concentrates, so something like the Lotus that works well with bud is +++.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying it can't work, just that it would be a major hassle for me anyway, with a torch flame hard to see and direct in the daylight. The Lotus likes you hitting that sweet spot just right and for the right amount of time. I prefer other options for those scenarios, such as the Solo in a reusable starbucks cup, an mflb or a vapor genie. But thats just my experience.

I get what you're saying, and I appreciate the input. Sorry if my reply came off as combative. I almost got a solo the first time around, but with how much I love the nano, I feel like anything else I get will JUST be in those very mobile situations; when the new heat forgiving caps come out will probably play a big role in what I decide to get.

(Also I'm a glass nerd, and I love my nano with the adapter, but some of those lotus milking videos could be porn for me :luv:.)

I don't think you should wait for the new version, the current one works so well that I rarely use anything else . My collection includes the Solo, Pax, Da Vinci, Indica and Firefly. The Pax and Indica see use when I'm out and about but other than that the Firefly is the only other vape I use anymore. The Lotus with the glass J hook in my opinion is the easiest and most economical way to vape for me. The Firefly is the only other that comes close to the taste and coolness of the vapor itself. I've also found that after trying about a dozen different jet flames the Honest that comes with the Lotus works the best for me. Easy to adjust and use, and cheap as well.

The Lotus and the Nano are a great pair - I love them both- if finances aren't a concern, I'd buy the Lotus v3 cap now. Sure the V4 cap sounds good - but nobody has used it yet on this thread to report back. Who knows if there will be design flaws with the first batch of new v4 caps.

Would you want to wait an unknown period of time, only to be disappointed with a defective or delayed cap?

The V2/V3 cap has been tried and tested for a long time, it has a great record of performance. The *only* problem is the chance you can kill it with excessive heat. As long as you're careful with the heat - this vape is awesome!

But as others pointed out - it can be a bit of a PITA for portability - especially since the cap remains hot for a few minutes after use (Don't know if anyone has tried that leather pouch MT now sells to carry the cap while hot - any owners want to comment?). Yes the Lotus works everywhere, but it isn't the most discrete vape on the market..... (though it sounds like you don't need discretion, you lucky ass)

Either way good choice, and my vote is to buy one now!

I have a StoK mini 6" now that I use for nails, but I imagine it'd be too hot for a Lotus. My dexterity isn't great before I vape my medication, so I was kinda feeling the more heat forgiving top, haha.

That's actually a great point that I hadn't considered. My brain kinda went "new=better!" without investigating any further.

I saw a video online of someone who used a durable case meant for eyeglasses. The guy vaped with the lotus,, took it apart, and threw it in there immediately. It had a stir stick attached, so that'd make it the V3 I think?

I need to remain a little bit discrete; Ohio is really great about pot, but it IS still illegal. I've only been stopped because of the pot once, and after explaining to the cop that I had a vascular disease that acts a lot like MS, he let me go without even a ticket. Other friends have gotten charges like "public nuisance" for having something on them, but the only person I know nearby who's been arrested was being a dumbass and had way more than anyone (even willie nelson) could justify as personal use on their person (just shy of a pound in his trunk.) He was in jail like 2 weeks.

EDIT Sorry for two posts in a row; the one I'm referring to with this post went up after I'd started replying, and I don't know how to delete this and merge it into the first.

you won't be disappointed, the Lotus is a lot of fun. You have to put in some time learning to use it, but the results are well worth the effort.

@Submisfit ~ I had been following your posts today, but did not have access to a keyboard...

I think I was in the same position as you. I needed an off the grid portable that did not rely on battery power. I am not much concerned with discretion, and have taken the lotus to nearly 10 outdoor festivals (some music like TomorrowLand, but primarily aircraft and flying festivals) where I was camping for 3-7 days at a time, often with no electricity.

The Lotus well exceeded all expectations in EVERY category. I did not buy it for efficiency, but in this category I was so fucking amazed that I can't find words to express my full satisfaction. I was coming from using only the Plenty and Volcano for my entire vaping career and little did I know about efficiency.

I love the ability to recharge/refill my lighter in 5 seconds- that was a big plus for being off the grid.

Regarding daylight, I would also recommend you get your technique indoors, but I have no issues in the daylight. The key for me is using the dry al stem, I feel the temp on my tongue and kinda know where the sweetspot is. Using this at air shows, most are older folks and think it is some fancy tobacco pipe- thanks to its familiar look and I think the aesthetics of not seeing any green buds make it slightly less conspicuous.... but that torch does still raise a few brows.

Being able to drop the Lotus+WPA on my existing bubs and water pieces was icing on the cake.
