Washington Residents Smoke Way More Weed Than Officials Thought

I'm hearing that around Sept is when the supply will get much better. Prices will come down to something more reasonably priced. Most folks are continuing to buy on the black market, unless they're a mmj patient.

EDIT:
I noticed that too, only 10% THC. What's up with that.

Gee, only 10% THC on that Grape Ape! I grew some Vortex a while back and had it tested at Harborside: 16.9%THC. Also when you buy from dispensaries in CA they are very into "bag appeal". One gram would be one dense, solid chunk. Overpriced to boot.

Kind of like how not-so-good pizza is better than no pizza at all, right? :-)

Living in the PNW and having access to so much top-shelf herb has made me a real "pot snob" and since I don't use it a lot, I would rather pass than vape/smoke low-grade bud.

Some upset over pot smokers on Vanc. patio
1406602887-still.jpg

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A local restaurant and shop is pushing the legal envelope, by allowing customers to smoke pot in a designated spot on its patio.

The management at Mint Tea said they’ve had a cannabis-friendly tent set up for a while, and it’s become more popular now that legal retail marijuana is being sold just a few blocks away on Main Street.

“We’re just offering a safe place for people to come and chill out, take their time to relax and have some good food," said Mint Tea Chef Josh Simpson.

Monday during lunchtime, several people smoked pot on the patio, right off the sidewalk in front of the Mint Tea. Two men on a business trip from Texas said Washington is on the cutting edge of progress for marijuana, and this was part of it.

“Now it’s out in the open, it’s available. And then to be able to walk down the street and be able to enjoy the company of a friend, a nice meal and a good smoke, I think that it’s great,” said the young man who didn’t want to be named.

Not everyone seemed to appreciate the open air marijuana smoking at Mint Tea. And that may include the Washington State Liquor Control Board regulators. They told KGW on Monday that businesses which have liquor licenses cannot by law allow marijuana on their premises. Mint Tea sells beer and wine and has a liquor license.

Also, although the tent obscures the view, the state could argue the pot smoking is happening in the public view, which is illegal.

“We’re still in some gray areas with it all and we’re still kind of waiting to see where it goes. Until then we’re just going about it the way we feel is the right way to go about it," said Simpson.

This was Hempseed Fest 2014 @ Sonshine Organics.
Went to my first Farmers Market today and picked 4 different strains total an oz and it was only $120. I got some GDP,Blue Cheese, Jilly Bean and Maui Wowi. I had been looking for Jilly Bean and GDP for a while. Also bought some Blackberry Hash. I'm pretty set for quite a while because I had just gone shopping yesterday. I felt like a kid in a candy store with all these choices. I just bought the MagicalButter Maker too!

Quite a cross section of society. It's not for hippies anymore. But I did see a lot of old hippies, like in their 70s. I bought from some old hippie vendors. So much product. I didn't take any pictures myself. This I found online, it was off of Facebook. To think the rec pot stores in WA are low on cannabis.

Sonshine Organics had on their Facebook page. A waterpipe maybe?

Seattle Hempfest 2014
The legal-weed revolution, televised and otherwise, has a long way to go before Seattle’s mega-marijuana-reform party known as Hempfest is obsolete, says longtime organizer Vivian McPeak.

But that doesn’t mean it can’t evolve.

“What’s really the newest thing is that we’re going to have two fenced-off, out-of-public-view, 21-and-over adult lounges to both introduce the concept of being I-502 compliant and more importantly give adults a place where they can imbibe out of the view of children and young teenagers,” McPeak said.

And, the ‘pot garden’ is in a city park …

“This will be, as far as I know,” McPeak said, “the only opportunity to legally smoke marijuana in a city park, free from the threat of city citation anywhere in America, maybe the world and that’s why it seems historic to us.”
The World’s Largest Annual Cannabis Law Reform Event;

Seattle Hempfest Returns!!!

I have noticed at most dispensaries here in CA I have been too try to push the commercial warehouse & outdoor stuff first, as "top shelf", especially if you are a "new patient", that and really short season indicas. I always play dumb at new dispensaries. I let my rec run out, not sure if I will get another one.

I don't like how the dispensaries don't pay jack squat for good indoor either. That discourages people from selling them the highest quality pot, which is what medical users should get. If there is no financial incentive for growers to have the best dope, they will stop producing it and adapt to the changing marketplace, and keep the boutique stuff for headies.

So much would be better if it was simply not scheduled any longer and leave the market unregulated.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but somehow pretty decent indoor stuff is dirt cheap in CA. There was a point where I thought of taking it up as a cottage industry and (legally) supplying dispensaries like Harborside. As they mentioned about a year back at Harborside in their vendor orientation, the price used to be 4K/lb, now more like 2-3 thousand/lb. With that price structure (may have gone up a bit now because of the drought) and the current cost of electricity and supplies I discovered the profit margin would be tiny and with the volume I could produce growing at home I would not make any money. It's great for supplying my own needs though and I always have excellent, pure stuff and home made bubble hash.

At what point is it possible to make a living? Because even if you have the space to grow in volume, and push the quick harvests at the expense of topshelf quality, and buy supplies in volume to lower your costs per lb., at that point there would be the need for additional employees and security apparatus and probably more factors that I'm not even considering like insurance and inventory controls and who knows what else!

At $4000/lb I'm pretty sure I could have covered most of my living expenses with a small veg tent and a 5'x5' flower tent. At $2000/lb it makes good sense to grow for a few months every now and then (especially in the winter when it's easy to keep humidity down and no need to run a dehumidifier) to supply your own needs. If I knew a lot of people with cards possibly I could make it by starting my own tiny collective. The conclusion seems inescapable that big players growing in volume are pricing all the little guys out of the market.

Perhaps the market will become more delineated in the future, with boutiques selling obviously superior topshelf medicine and larger collectives pushing the quickly-harvested second grade stuff.

Yes, I think the market will diversify and once the federal listing comes off we will see some real creative work on boutique strains and hand-cultured goodness.

Wow.. I can't believe the lack of supply in Washington State right now. An 1/8 of bud is retailing for $112.00 !! Grams are priced at $38 dollars each (WTF!!! A gram of gold right now is about $42 dollars!!). This was today's price in Vancouver WA.

Retailers are constantly closed due to lack of supply. Even at these outrageous prices, people are lining up to purchase it at this price!!

I made one purchase back at the end of July for a couple grams at $20 a gram, 2 gram minimum. I did it for the novelty of purchasing legal weed. I wont be buying legal again until the price is around $10 to $15 a gram, which is about double what I can get it on the "black market" for. I would like to support legal weed but not at these prices!! Growers are gouging the hell out of the retailers and consumers..
