Kleen extract

Perhaps adding a little ISO immediately upon opening KleenX would create this azeotropic property? If the theory indeed holds true.

Is there any well know additive that is safe that would achieve this?
As @farscaper has stated and on the datasheets, there is already a small amount of iso in the KleenX, which is why we are curious as to the effect of that small amount of iso...is it being an azeotrope to the ethanol? is it used to keep the ethanol from absorbing any atmospheric water? etc, etc...just why the small amount of iso...just curious. I'm hoping @KleenXtract will come in and enlighten us on this matter.

Oh and btw, I am in no way knocking the product either, just have some questions I want answered. And apologies to Kleen and anyone if my earlier posts about communication came across as me knocking Kleen; I was merely stating that good communication is good business (to summarize).

No, no, no. It has been cleared up that the MSDS with the ISO was not the product they are selling. The updated MSDS on their site reflects 100% ethanol.

ahhhh ok my bad then, thank you @DieHard for clearing that up....must have missed that (baked).
Ok so now I know it's pure ethanol. Now, does the theory hold water (pun intended) that maybe a little iso added would help prevent atmospheric water absorption?

I also asked earlier; if anyone can answer, what are the atmospheric water absorption rates of 91iso, 99iso, and the KleenXtract? If we knew this, then I think I speak for all of us, whichever one absorbs that outside water the slowest would be the winner....or adding something to the Kleen to help slow or prevent atmospheric water absorption.

I am pretty much baffled about that as well. I am in a high humidity area. Every time I evaporate ISO containing reclaim, there is the milky water stage at the end. With all this talk of ethanol absorbing atmospheric water, I wonder how it will be when doing a room-temperature evap. Will there be residual milky water there too?

I, too, am in a high humidity area...and I'm seeing what you are describing right now as I have a pyrex pie plate over some hot water on an induction cooktop, window open, fan blowing across it and out the window, and I am seeing that. (which is why I keep editing and adding, lol, multitasking...doing the above in one room, doing computer and water bonging LSV in the other :)

I actually did 2 winterizations in everclear... 1 with actual bho to winterize and one with reclaim and left overs from single runs that I let soak a few minutes and shake... needless to say a pretty dirty extract... let each soak until water was obviously all that was left in liquid (ie the oil was pooled in dots on top and on the parchment.

I poured the water off the dirty was and the water in the bho wash I left to evap...

the one I poured the water off was still smoother... the white water is likly the source of irritation when not poured off.

I should have clarified, in my above post, what I was evaporating was part of a third wash, so what I'm seeing is probably a bit more waxes, fats, and more of the water soluble stuff I would imagine...and probably more water too from the above and it's damn humid here tonight.

cool @wootze! Looking forward to see how your runs go.

I asked earlier in this thread if they will ship without signature (see my post for why I need that), but I haven't seen @KleenXtract in here since that post.

Oh, and that evap from last night that had the milky in it...as time went on, most of it went away (I keep on low heat until almost all liquid is gone...my indicator for pulling from heat is that I start seeing the temps climb when they were stable for many many minutes). This morning, I looked at the pie plate and all milky looking liquid is gone.

Great Scott!
Milky liquid IMO from past runs is excess moisture. Nothing to worry about either way.

but... and im just openly thinking out loud ... but in the case of everclear if you can manage to catch the point in which all oil has seporated and can pour off the water... would that not pour off the undesirable sugars in the everclear too? since they are very water soluble..

I just always notice a harshness to ec washes... and I fucking vac it too!

Are you refering to 151 as everclear? My understanding is there are no sugars left in 190 proof everclear. I've left it out to evap and it did so without leaving any residue at all.

im refering to 190 proof... but you may have illustrated the confusion. uppon further reading its little more that 190 flammable calories and nothing else.

... lol I just realized im still in the kleenx thread not qwet. perhaps ill move over there.

wonder when we will hear from @KleenXtract again?

yep no sugars after distillation. i have experienced the milky liquid when doing ISO runs, but cant say i have seen it in ethanol washes.

Hmmm...so two of you had to sign for it...not looking good for me...I will have to contact Kleen direct since we don't know if they'll be back here soon or not.

Got mine today too. It really would have been nice to receive SOME communication after the purchase was made. No confirmation e-mail. No order number. No thanks for your order. @KleenXtract

Ok now what do I do?
Put flowers in jar, add KX. How long should I soak? Should I shake? Then pour off and filter? Is this done cold? Will I need to squeeze it out of the flowers? Is the filtering timing as critical as QWISO ?

Edit: No signature required for my quart.

Aha! That's good news @DieHard. Ya, that lack of communication is not too good...did they give you a tracking number?

I don't know if you're joking about method, but you would just follow the QWET method...if you were joking, ignore my last sentence.

Never even got a tracking number. It just appeared today.
Hahaha I'm not joking... No clue what to do. Guess I've got some reading to do...

well... everyone touts is only ethanol... so ... do a qwet wash. it should only be slightly more agressive than everclear... but allegedly evaps cleaner...

im starting to lose sight of why I would go to the extra effort if buying this stuff if its just ethanol... frankly I was more excited with the old msds

Now that I know that KleenXtract is similar in cost to EverClear, I am apt to purchase some. Not only is it 200 proof (at least temporarily better than EC's 95%), but they will delivery straight to my front door.
