Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Keep your temp low. You want your ABV a light brown with still an oily feel. Temp 350 degrees maybe? If you are using the glass pipe screen flowers, make sure there aren't any shards of glass in the ABV.

I use ABV from my Solo for edibles, but I go higher than 350 degrees and there is still life left.

Not sure if I have a problem with mine gassing

It gives a plasticky taste if I go in the higher temps.

I tested this on full blast and had some blue vapor coming off. It did not have any contents but maybe it was oil left over from the herbs.

I have cleaned it with 99.9% alcohol and I have it on charge. I am going to test again and see

If I have been inhaling crap I won't be happy. I never really get a fantastic taste everyone talks about.

I can only compare to the da buddha I have and flavour and hit on the da buddha pisses all over this

Funny, I always read that vapor is bluish.. dunno about that taste though- hopefully you won't have to take your solo out of rotation

Funny, I always read that vapor is bluish..

I'm color blind, so have to go with what I'm told about colors. However, my understanding is our favorite vapor can be either blue or gray (?) in shade, sometimes subject to the light. The key is, I'm told, the particle size.

First off, it's not really vapor. It's an aerosol, a suspension of tiny solid (or liquid) bits in the air. It's not a gas, which is what vapor is. Vapor is how it got there, but as the random gas phase TCH molecules (spread through the air) cooled below 390 or so the gas condenses back to a liquid much like water vapor condenses out to make fog (another aerosol). Fog is (liquid) water drops, not water vapor.

So the particle size is controlled by lots of factors working together. Some effected by vape design and use, some not.

The key for us is not all particle sizes are the same utility when it comes time to being actually absorbed. Too large and they deposit high up where they are absorbed slowly if at all. Too fine and they tend to be exhaled out without adhering anywhere. Between is the 'magic size', something in the few microns (thousandths of a mm) I believe?

Such sizes bring the particles deep into the lungs where things are cleaner and the wall to get in easier to breech.

Noah (at Thermovape) went into it one day, I wish I'd paid more attention but since it wasn't something I could use....... "Blue Vapor" was a good thing, IIRC. The ideal size particles can be many times more effective at being absorbed, meaning you can get the same effect from a smaller load. Or so the theory is.

Somebody should be working on this I think?

Finally I figured out how to get this thing to work with decent clouds n get job done at same time when it wasn't doing either hardly !! almost as good as my desktop Herbalizer 729.99$ number one rated overall. I use my electric tobacco grinder till it was like sand and that works perfect I use bout .5 only gave me about five minute session but I was hitting it constantly and got the job done gagging my brains out as if I was smoking a blunt at 390° F so you have to shred to Sand to get the best results. I've tried everything I gave up at one point. The electric tobacco grinder are hard to find in stores you have to go online there like $20-$40. You have to buy the one I have the $20 ones that are handheld are cheap. It's called the tobacco leaf grinder something like that if you really cared message me. All the pollen Keif is caught off the littlest bud. You just hold it upside down because it's so small and it's all easy to collect. It says tobacco schreder on it and it's about a half a foot tall very small you press the button for a half a second and it will chop n ounce in half second

Well...my replacement Ascent is giving me problems now as well.

I believe they sent me a refurbished unit. It operated well until last night, when I noticed that it was not charging, although it had been plugged in awhile earlier. I moved it to every plug in the house with no change. Every once in awhile it will give me the charging signal, but if I return five minutes later the screen is back off. Since last night its only managed to charge halfway.

My ascent acts exactly like this and has for a few months now. If I position the charger just right it will charge. It's an annoyance but Hasent bothered me enough to attempt to get it exchanged or anything.

Sounds like the same set of wires which come loose and disable the oven heater is causing the problem here. I bet the more you fidget with it to get it to charge, the less often it will happen. It may work for a bit longer, but eventually those wires will break, or worse, short out and cause a fire hazard!

I personally would initiate a return process immediately if it were my device. Especially when it comes to a short in the charging circuit, noooo thanks - too much of a risk for a fire hazard (but I prefer to play it safe)

Hey. The same thing happened to my Ascent that I sent back to DaVinci. You must have my Ascent that they "repaired" sent back out to you. LOL
Go ahead and get the return process going. It would not hurt to request a new replacement unit considering the lackluster history of your Warrenty service.
Good luck, I hope you have a backup vaporizer

Went to the coast for a couple days brought the Ascent and the Solo.

I used both vaporizers and people didn't even notice. They were busy doing their own thing.

I walked along the beach and was able to enjoy the Ascent. Before I left my hotel room, I put in some glass flowers (3) and filled the bowl with some nice Matanuska Tundra Thunderfuck herb. I walked down the beach on the wet sand and I used it off and on probably 30 min total. I have a lot of problems walking in the dry sand. Being able to medicate once my feet started to tighten up, helped my muscle to loosen up and I was able to walk with less pain.

The Ascent that I own is about 9 months old. I use it about 4 times a week and it still going strong. The battery lasts about 45 min. The battery on my Pinnacle Pros last around 20 min.

Often we're excited when getting a new portable vape. Think long term and how the unit will hold up over time. Especially if you are spending over $200.

I think that is what sorta miffs me. My first Ascent worked flawlessly from probably novemberish till June. I honestly have very little complaint with it. The replacement however, while it was very clean, did not take long at all to crater on me.

The customer service from Davinci regarding my first ascent was very well, I thought. We'll see how it goes with this second vape.

Luckily I do have several backups. I have a Haze vaporizer and a flowermax V. I'm still getting to know the Haze a little, but aside from a few hiccups have been pretty happy with it.

The Ascent has a special place with me, as it was my first introduction to the world of vaping. I'm just hoping I can get an adequate replacement.

Hi All!
First post here, long time lurker though.

I received my new Ascent the other day. Of course, before getting it, I spent a lot of time reading this forum, and this thread specifically. My first vaporizer (outside of ecig stuff) was the Solo, which is still running strong, though I was definitely on the hunt for a more portable solution, easier to take out of the house and such.

But I want to express my most sincere thanks to all the posters here in this thread who have taken the time to go over best use practices and such. @KeroZen your pseudo scientific experiments, with everything all in one place, were particularly helpful and appreciated.

Anyhoo, the Ascent I ordered (directly thru DaVinci) and received was the Silver Skulls one. I would guess this style's been on the shelf awhile as the serial number on the model I received begins with 1AA1. And from what I recall reading, that would be one of the first generation units.

I'm not sure if they would've pulled and reworked the older units to put in the fixes implemented in later models. What do you think? Having waited this long before buying, specifically because I was waiting for all the kinks to be worked out and couldn't afford to be an "early adopter", and then winding up with one of the first gen serial numbers anyway kind of threw me a little bit.

So what are some of the gotchas I have to be wary of, if indeed this wasn't reworked and is still a first generation product? I think I recall the wires in the hinge getting loose from opening and closing the bowl. Also the air pathways weren't as tight in this first model, or so most said. Any other gotchas I should watch for? Or should I ask DaVinci directly if this model has been reworked?

I would not make that assumption. In fact we've been told by the maker that he was reissuing the same serial numbers again and we should not try to make assumptions based on them. Specifically. It's in this thread a while back.

It is against the law to sell as new any product or component that has been sold before without identifying it as such. While some dealers and makers can be kind of shaky, I seriously doubt DaVinci would take such risks. I've been through this first hand, the company I worked for that the time got busted when a service PCB (complete with obvious repair) got shipped out in a new unit. Very costly mistake for us, we had to trade the entire unit out when the ship made port next (in China IIRC). I lucked out, got pulled off it for a hotter fire and the next guy on the list drew the duty. After that raiding of service kits by production came to an abrupt stop.

If you bought it straight from DV, I strongly suspect it's the vary latest production no matter what the number on the unit. I'd plan on enjoying it.

I purchased mine last Oct. and it's been functioning perfectly. I don't know if it's been up dated or not. Also, I open the hinged bowl all the way every time I load or unload it. It makes it much easier for me to load, if it wasn't supposed to open all the way it should have been designed with a stop. I'm always careful not to "over" open the bowl though.

@CheriePie : welcome on board!

From memory the improved bowl seal was implemented already in the first production batch (and if not, shortly after) I think the skulls skin came later anyways so you should be good for that one leak. It's easy to check, just look for a thin lip extending up on the silicone around the bowl.

For the buddy rim leak refer to either post #5733 or use the GonG adapter or Ed's wood stems.

For the wires breaking, it's a matter of luck... we have users with old devices working flawlessly but we also got 2Axx failure reports... and as @OF said serial numbers are possibly only of limited value here.

I know you @Norcalsun think that if it has been designed to be opened all the way it should work as expected, but there's obviously a difference between what they expected and what we really got in the end. It wasn't designed to leak either, yet...

...or put differently, bad "design decisions" (underlooking strain relief and thinking the buddy rim silicone would sit perfectly in place) led to the current situation...

@nigel: seriously still no news or update from them? What is this DV developers circle about in the end? Are you all under NDA discussing future products but nobody cares about the past ones?

I respectfully disagree ,
So how is a consumer able to tell if it's new or used , if they're reissuing the same serial #'s . I believe it's DV covering their butts on this one .
IF they are NEW units , they should have NEW batch #'s , plain
and simple . Maybe that's where the confusion is at . jmo

If there are laws protecting consumers from the above mentioned 'practice', would they not frown app-on the practice of re-issuing serial numbers? Not accusing anybody of anything here, just wondering if keeping serial numbers 'up to date' would not be considered common practice, and as stated, at least give consumers some way of knowing what exactly they are buying?

Disagree away. I'm quoting what the maker told us on this Forum (I believe). Argue with him?

While I get what you think (and of course you can think what you want) that's not what seems to be happening? I suggest the confusion is self inflicted.......

If there are laws protecting consumers from the above mentioned 'practice', would they not frown app-on the practice of re-issuing serial numbers?

Different cases. The law about selling new stuff has nothing to do with serial numbers, production dates and so on. It allows you, for instance, to strip units you've never sold for parts and sell the assembled product as new.....been there too.

We've been through this before, I think most folks don't stop to consider that there's no requirement for serial numbers on such products at all. 'Serial numbers or other identifying marks' are required on autos, firearms and some few similar products. Vapes need not have any at all, and in fact I'd say most vapes made do not? It's the maker's choice. He could use the same number on every copy (not advised when printing your own money......). He can also skip numbers, or (as we see) reuse them. This is not uncommon.

The same company I worked for that got busted was a very small player in a big bucks market. We, of course, serial numbered our gear for warranty control but to confuse the enemy (our competitors) we'd often skip blocks of numbers to make production look bigger to those trying to figure out our volume. On the large product this was an engraved plate riveted to the frame. The plates came engraved, of course, but were not sequential. Our logs and paperwork sorted it all out, of course, but they were confidential and without them basically impossible for others to use. Our own, private, production code secret.

If you put yourself in the maker's place you can probably see how 'I don't want that one, I read on the internet, it's defective' is not a discussion they want to be in. Date codes have the same issues, which is why they're in code I suspect?

Thanks for the great news OF! In my original post, when I was referring to "reworked", it was more like, if this was one of the older units still on the shelf, if DaVinci would've pulled it and made the same fixes they did to later models and then restocked it to sell as new, not necessarily that it had been used before.

Besides the 1AA1 serial number, the unit is marked 18 of 1000 (since this silver skulls style was only produced in a limited batch of 1000), so what I was wondering about is if they would've pulled the units on the shelves and implemented the fixes found in later units on those original units.

I too have been opening my bowl a full 180 degrees as well. There was nothing in the documentation saying how far to open it (or not) and the videos on DaVinci's site do show them opening the bowl 180 degrees so I will continue to use it that way since it's easier to hold and load.

If it later turns out that this was an older production model which exhibits the issue when opening fully, then I'll let them replace it for me then. I still have my Solo for backup.

Actually, this was one of the reasons I asked about rework on some of the older units possibly still on their shelves. I was trying to gauge if I might have issues to worry about with this one and the bowl opening fully was one of them.

Need to reply to a few things on KeroZen's post too. That'll come separately.

Well I seem to have this occurring.. I'm hoping it doesn't matter too much, what do you guys think? Should I get it replaced or is it inevitable anyway?

I'm curious to know what you clean your Ascent off with? ISO has been known to damage some plastics. If you use ISO to clean make sure you wipe it off with water after. I would do this to be on the safe side.

I've cleaned with iso twice and then wiped with a damp cloth, I wouldn't have thought it would derteriorate that quick. Can you reccomend anything more plastic friendly?

Has anyone else had the same problem? And I'm not sure they would even replace it if they can just say I caused it with iso.

I suppose its something I will have to live with, doesn't seem to have any negative effects.

FWIW, I've cleaned mine about once a week using ISO on Q-tips since getting it last March w/o rinsing after. In retrospect, rinsing is a good idea. No deterioration here yet. The User Manual suggests using water or ISO to clean some parts but doesn't mention the area in your photo. Am glad you're not experiencing any negative effects and wish you good luck. :)
