Is there any legitimate reason to make the glass that thick? I guess it would be helpful as an insulator for the people who like to vape through warm water?

It does seem to me like the water stays warmer longer. But mainly just like the weight & I always knock mine over quite a bit. Broke my 5mm roor two weeks ago and only have heard great things about US tubes.

Also I wanted something I wouldn't be as worried about at friends houses...

If you're not too clumsy I think anything over 5mm is overkill. I'm just a very clumsy person & it feels nice in my lap :)

I might turn the question around. If it's available and affordable, why not have glass as thick as possible? Is there any disadvantage?

Just a thought but the added weight might make it more likely to slip out of your hand.

Also if you think about the science/maths you're increasing the weight by a cubed factor compared to the thickness of the glass. Assuming that the force it will take to break the glass is directly(linearly) proportional to the thickness of the glass then the piece would be more likely to break when dropped or tipped. Of course that's a big assumption and I've go no idea of the actual science behind it.

My own personal experience of breaking glass lies more in the area of dropping Underdog stems and not actual water pipes...yet.

Good points, in that they sound good and I have no knowledge to refute them. :nod::tup:

My experience breaking glass seems to involve collaboration from a stainless steel sink and tile flooring. I'm embarrassed to say but the one time I dropped a piece and it should have broke but didn't, was this thick ugly Weedstar piece. Probably my least favorite, lol.

@rgrig its a real rad and beautiful rig. Not your run of the mill glass either, seen nothing like than. Can't wait to see a vid of it in action!

Well done and this doesn't happen much to me any more so I love to see it.
