Since switching to the Iolite screen, my Firefly is hotter.

Another "Firefly conundrum"...

I find the 7 hole Iolite screen makes my Firefly run cooler. I use it in my Silver FF (which runs hotter than my Grey) to prevent combustion.

I've had uncontrollable combustion in the Silver, but none since I started using the 7 hole Iolite screen (knocking on wood).

Last questions, can you buy a new cover and change it without sending it to the company? And should I leave it charging for hours for the initial charge? How long approximately?
Fucking VAS man, I'm going to pick it up in a couple of hours.

Yes. Cover snaps on and off via strong magnets. You will be taking it off a lot. You can swap covers yourself, easily.

The battery charges fast, less than an hour. A depleted battery will charge in around 45 minutes, usually. Your new FF will likely have a minimal charge when you receive it, so it'll fully charge in a half-hour or so. No need to keep charging once the blue light turns solid...you are ready to go.

Well I talked with the fine folks at firefly and the glass porthole does indeed come out when you remove those torx screws, so I'll probably be picking up a spare lid and a lotus WPA and doing some dremeling.

Be careful. There's a very thin gasket in the port assembly that can be a bitch to re-seat.

I believe that the kits contain ten screens. They aren't the kits included with the FF...the kit you buy separately has more screens in it. I would contact FF and ask them though, because I'm relying on my dim memory of what some other user mentioned here several months ago.
Turns out it's five screens, five picks, and 20 wipes. I trimmed a bit off the DBV screen for now. I still like the convenience of the Iolite.

I suffer from VAS, too, which I didn't know existed until I came here, and I'm learning about things I never knew about. Everyone seems to rave about the Lotus, MFLB looks like fun, already have the FF and a Pax, plus the DBV desktop I've had for years. Have fun with your new acquisition!

Yeah, so I've heard. Just wish there were some pics of the disassembled lid somewhere

Only teardown pics I've seen here didn't include the port assembly. I do have this pic of the gasket popping out, between the glass and the metal ring on the exterior of the lid, on my original silver FF.

Yeah I guess I'll just see how it goes, I'm sure there's some way to put the two together. Should probably find a waterpipe to stick it onto as well.

Yeah they are very good looking. I know its flashy, but I think I have to pick up a red one. It just looks so good, similar feel to classic cars. I look at it and see a red '57 thunderbird. Lol
I have the red one, it reminds me of 1950's style kitchen appliances. LOL

I got the red light, what does that mean? I was using it, plugged it in the charger. After a minute a realised that the light was red so I quickly unplugged it. Unit was very hot. Left it aside for a bit to cool down. Came back tested it to see if it was still working and it did. Plugged it in the charger, light is flashing blue.

Red means dead battery. You shouldn't see a red light when it's plugged into the charger...you should see flashing blue while charging, and solid blue when the charge is complete. If the unit overheats you will get a yellow light, but almost no one appears to have ever seen one.

Not sure why you saw a red light while the unit was plugged in. Perhaps the charger cord wasn't fully inserted and the toggle switch on the FF was on and you were just seeing the dead battery light? Sounds like you are ok now...let us know how you get on....

Am I correct in assuming that the Firefly can be cleaned with an ordinary alcohol pad (70% isopropyl, the same kind used to swab your arm before a shot or IV)? At various "senior health fair" events, those things are given for free in complimentary first aid packets, so I've got a bunch of them and could start collecting more. Of course, Firefly wants you to use their official Cleaning Wipes, but there's nothing special about them, is there?

in my old ff unit it would show red sometimes if i plugged it in right after a long session and the device being hot. just let it cool down for a few minutes before you charge it and it wont happen. ways to let the device cool down faster would be to let it rest face down with the lid off preferably on a marble like table, or in front of a fan or ac unit with the lid on so dust wont get in.

I really like it. Obviously needs a better battery, expensive, but overall I'm very happy. Its exactly what I needed. It took my like 4 bowls to get it perfect. That's with experimenting.
For people saying that there's a new firefly coming out, I'm not saying you're wrong, but consider this:
a. It was released in Canada a few months ago.
b. It has a 5 year warranty

Four bowls is fast! Eight months and four FFs in, and I'm still getting better at it.

I agree that the FF 2.0 is not imminent. I'm just hoping for a metallic gold FF!

Yeah I shouldn't say I perfected it, but I've had practice with the mflb and other vapes. I wish they would make a cover with more glass especially on the vapor path for more visual feedback because its really smooth vapor. But I haven't combusted yet and I'm getting great Vapor production, though I haven't pushed any load to the limit.

I agree the FF vapor is delicious, but I still enjoy collecting huge amounts in a bubbler. Any comments comparing the FF flavor to a Lotus with a WPA? Thanks!

I can't imagine combusting in my FF. I'd need to wear gloves. :)

An all, or mostly, glass cover would be pretty awesome. I think because of the nature of the removable cover we may one day see some pretty awesome accessories like a cover that connects to water pipes and things like that.

So, I just got mine yesterday. Had a great evening with it and now all day today, I'm combusting the weed on almost every bowl. I've tried different packing styles and with and without a tip screen. I've also tried shortening my draws. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong or is my unit overheating my flower?

How long are you holding the button before you take the hit, how long of a hit do you take, and how soon do you release the button before your hit is done? Are you using ground or unground herb? How often do you stir? How many seconds until the bowl gets 'red hot'?

We'll have to isolate down a bit before we can be sure if your unit is faulty or if its just the learning curve. I know I'm still figuring out my T1 and I've had it for almost a year now lol.

You shouldn't be. Don't use a top screen. Try a loose-ish pack with a medium grind and shorter draws. If you still combust under those conditions I would guess the heating coil is not aligned properly.

Are you sure the lid is securely on? There were a few times I thought the lid was on tight, but it wasn't; when that happens, instead of drawing air through the bowl you draw air from under the lid, and the bowl gets too hot without air going through. You can tell when this happens because it's too easy to draw air; your intake should be more difficult than drawing through a straw.
