Hi,this is my first post, but I'm a long time lurker. I've had the Firewood 2.1 going on 2 weeks now, and I love it. The learning curve wasn't difficult to navigate at all,and a full charge last me all day. Plus Marc is a great guy with great customer service. As far as loading a capsule goes I've tried various levels of coarseness, but what has worked best for me is just leaving the buds whole only cutting them to size to fit in the capsule.

Looks nice. Would buy immediately if battery was replaceable.... Rechargeable batteries typically die out after a year or two of frequent use and disposable gadgets are not for me.

I recently got a Firewood 2.1, and it's a great little vape! Sadly, the adapter crapped out in the first week. But, like people here have said, Marc provides great customer service and a new adapter is in the mail. In the short time I've been able to use it, I found loading the capsules a little awkward. Another FC member suggested a UD stem, which does work. Here's what I did: I placed a small slice of hitemp silicone tubing around the glass capsule and worked them into the glass well in the FW; this required a bit of shaving to thin the tubing walls. The capsule/tubing now sit very securely in the FW, with no danger they will fall out. I removed the o-ring that was on the glass straw and fit it around the metal part of the UD stem. To use, I simply load the UD stem and fit into the FW well and use just like a log vape. I know it'll work without the capsule in there, but a screen in the capsule prevents any loose bits falling onto the heating element. I found using UD stems to be an easier method on the go, albeit somewhat less stealthy.

I've currently had this vape for a few weeks and I love it! Has anyone hooked it up to a water piece? Thinking of getting some sort of piece to do this, but wanting to know whether it would be worth it/how it is done(as far as heat times) with this vape. I'm a newb to vaping and any insight helps!

Wow thanks so much for that video! I'm even more impressed by what this little vape can do now than I was before, can't wait to try it for myself

Hey everyone!

I've really been pushing this vape on the GC crowd. So far its getting a great response, and we've got a Firewood Appreciation Club thread going. I've had this little vape about 2 months now and I absolutely love it. I switch between it and my MFLB; sure is great to have some stylish looking wooden body vapes, and they're both made in the USA!!

Recently I've figured out how to get thicker clouds out of it. The load cooks a little darker than I'd prefer but its all good.... Great results. Thanks Marc for the Firewood Vape! So glad you created it!

The more I use mine, the more I like it!

It's really perfect to pull one or two fat rips in less than two minutes, then put it back in your pocket. As there is so little conduction going on, the load doesn't cook and the taste stays great on the next uses.

It's less a session vape than my Ascent, which I nearly always use for long 10-20min stretches, and I was a bit sceptic about the NiMh battery type used in the Firewood at first. But in fact it's not a bad decision because it's really hassle-free compared to lithium batteries: no 80% discharge rule, no problem letting them charged etc

I still wouldn't recommend it for a total vaporizer noob, but for anyone seasoned enough definitely, it's a great little device.

Scrimshaw, I am strongly considering getting a walnut firewood for exactly what you identify...I do not miss smoking, but I do miss my dugout. I'm thinking this vape may be perfect paired with a mini personal filter for a concert setup.

Great pics, but can you elaborate on how you modded the fw exactly to fit a UD or CRZ stem (I think that's a CRZ glass stem?) Although I sold all my CRZ stems with my CRZ and I don't have any UD stems, you now have me considering how to pair a fw with one of Ed's stems.

@TheDudeNextDoor, see my previous post #979 where I describe the mod—definitely perfect for shows! In my 1st pic you can see the tubing sandwiched between the glass capsule and the glass well in the FW. Since this is how I use the FW exclusively, you can see I also covered the hole in the lid where the straw used to go. That glass stem was for my PD, but can't remember where, sorry. I don't have one, but Ed's stems look great and would look *real* classy with your new walnut FW!

@Haze Mister, I know what you're saying with disposable devices. but looking at Marc's track record for upgrades, I'm sure he will offer an inexpensive solution for replacing the battery. I'm okay with sending it back in two years to get a new battery. He's mentioned that batteries are fairly easily changed but would rather do it himself because it would be too easy (for us) to damage the unit. I don't think Marc or anyone who's bought one considers the FW disposable!

Earlier in this thread Marc says he'll replace the batteries for a nominal fee. Just have to let him know. And no, I do not consider the Firewood a disposable vape; not by a long shot. The Firewood to me is yet another example that a portable doesn't have to cost over 200$ to be a great vape, or covered in molded plastic, or looking like something I bought from the Apple store.

Its simple, effective, and straight to the point with this one. I'm going to stick with the Firewood for a very long time for my portable needs.

Does anyone else have a big problem combusting herbs in the firewood? No matter what I have tried, pushing the screen up a little, trying for smaller hits, and I even took notes on the firewood 2.1 demo video and tried to copy that technique exactly to no avail. I love the form factor and look of the firewood, but I personally have switched to another vape because even after 10+ loads in it, there still manages to be combustion in it every time :(

How fast do you inhale? Try less heating. Also don't hold the button while inhaling if it's already up to temp.

I haven't visited this thread in a while. My FW 2 has been working okay. I was going to send it back because sometimes the heater won't come one, and no red light when I depress. Marc was going to help me but I decided it was a minor inconvenience for me, but perhaps before the year is up.
Plus now my DB whip broke, so I'm more relying on the FW and it's great for the economy. Really nice and holding up really well under frequent usage.

Scrimshaw, wanted to was going to ask is which stem is that form UD? The nylon, the silicone, does it matter? I don't own a UD but would get a stem. Your setup looks great.
Here's the UD page http://underdogvapes.com/vape-stems. It looks like you are using the nylon.

Thanks

@stuartambient, yup, that's the nylon UD stem. My old nylon PD stems work too, but they're slightly looser in the FW.

@TheDudeNextDoor, I have you to thank (blame?) for reminding me about Ed's stems! I ordered a beautiful blackwood stem for my nano, which also fits the FW (using a little hi-temp silicon tubing to seal). With the wider diameter SS bowl though, its contents can fall out if not careful...so my preferred method is still the nylon UD stem. I know he's made wood UD stems but aren't in stock, so maybe I'll see if he can make me one. The cocobolo pieces are stunning! Finally cured my VAS and GAS, now I have WAS!!!

So does the nylon UD stem with its metal fitting affect the flavor in a metallic way or anything? About to pull the trigger on this, especially because it makes it dugout-esque, but just have to ask that first. Thanks!
Or are there any other types of stems that look kinda nice and fit well?

Many very tasty vapes have SS bowls/screens, as do the nylon UD stem and Ed's stems. I've never noticed steel or nylon affecting taste, but there's probably a thread for super-tasters somewhere in the evolving vapor bible we call FC. Wooden stems affect flavor, but I think that's kind of the point. And you always have the FW glass straw option for comparison. I prefer the nylon UD stem purely for its loading/unloading convenience.

Update: I removed the glass capsule/silicon tubing sandwich I had in the FW. Instead I pushed a domed screen down into the FW well above the heating element. This way, I can use the nylon UD or Ed's nano stem (which was too wide otherwise). The capsule sammich setup was nice because it stopped me from inserting the stem in too far, so I may go back to that.
