So my new solo is arriving today. This is my first solo and I'm excited. However all this talk about the bottom cracking and so on has got me worried. Can someone post pictures of of what is going on? Will arzier replace or fix the unit if this happens? Someone assure my this thing isn't going to be a bad purchase.

The cracking generally only occurs when one either adds a o ring and then over tightens or when installing a new battery, and not fitting the screw's back exactly right, Just take care with any mods you employ and you'll be just fine.

You made an excellent choice I love my solo first and only vape I own... Though that enano is looking awfully sexay

Can you explain why a O ring add on is needed?

I really wouldn't be concerned about the reports about the bottom plate cracking. I was probably a little too overzealous with my unit and wasn't careful enough with it. Even if for some reason yours does crack it is just a small cosmetic issue that doesn't affect the performance of the unit in anyway. Pipes is already working with me to get it fixed! Congrats on your new purchase!

I think part of the problem might be the manufacturing process at the factory. I personally think that in some cases the assembler is over-tightening the screws when putting these things together. It's either that, or the plastic composition used in the molds of the base plates is more brittle than previously-used plastics, making the newer Solos more susceptible to cracking.

Although my Solo devices have never been dropped or abused in any way, nor have I ever tried to squeeze in O-rings below the cap, I too found the baseplates on both of my Solos having cracks around the four screws. I can assure you that I am extremely gentle with my devices.

Here are a couple of pics taken through my 10x jeweler's loupe of my newest Solo (only a few months old), showing cracks around the screws:

So I went to my local Ace Hardware store and bought the following:
- Panhead Machine Screw, 2mm x 8mm, p/n 4306, 25 cents each.
- Flat Washer, 2mm, p/n 4298, 17 cents each.

The new screws and washers help alleviate some of the stress that was induced by the original screws. The new screws went in nice and snug with little effort.

CloudsOverCanada, If you order one at Puffitup and if there is a problem. No worries. I haven't seen as many folks saying they needed to send theirs back. FC is just a fraction of the Solo buyers. IMO I say throw caution to the wind and just do it.:lmao:

Some people (myself included) felt that after the seal breaks in, the grip is a little loose, causing the tube to spin about.
Which is only a problem if you like the bent tube
I beg to differ!
I use the straight stem a lot because they fit perfectly in my travel tubes.
I use the 113 seal because I was breaking 1 - 2 stems a week when I was first using them. Since I added the 113 seal I haven't broke a stem.
The new units I believe you have to modify the seal to fit properly.
@OF or @Pipes know what to do!

I enjoy my SOLO with a CALIFORNIA RED these guy's know how to make it work so I can just use it!

Spyguy we don't utter the word smoking around here. We only vape. A hard habit to break, I know. When the Solo first is heating up with fresh herb is when you will smell that smell we have learned to love. Any vaporizer will smell to a certain degree. Some will smell more than others. My Solo smells the least of my four different portables.

If you vaped already prevaped bud, something that still has life left. It would smell less.

My Pinnacle Pro and my Ascent have a stronger oder when heating up. The order doesn't linger. Its nothing compared to smoking.

I second hd_rider hypothesis in the assembler doing the original crack. I remember having 1 out of the 4 screws kinda tough to align when reassembling.

My bottom plates of my 3 solos are ok. The 1st few times I put my oring and screw the cap back, I really put too much pressure. A few drops on concrete floors. A few dents to prove it. But still no crack on the bottom plate on my may2013 solos. My 2014 endured no openings or any kind of hardship, so I cant tell about its solidity.

I use the oring too with the str8 stem. I vape hamster style to keep reclaim inside the stem, and the oring keeps the stem inside the solo

Question if you please.:) when I turn on my unit. I dial it all the way down but my number one light stays light. So it's sitting there with the blue idle light and one yellow light. What's with that? It's like it's stuck on heat one.

On the other hand the vapors I'm getting from my Afgani are out of this world.

You can't turn it off by dialing it down. You need to hold both buttons and it will shut down from whatever temp setting you're at.

Oh so it doesn't have a true idle mode? Setting one is as low as it goes?
You bring up a good point. There actually is a true idle mode that you can revert to. The problem is that since the unit measures a temp (as it's cooling) in the bowl of over 50C (iirc), it will show that you're up to temperature 1, so that light stays on.

I didn't know that until just now when I tested it. Thanks for teaching me something today!

Hey guys, whats the purpose of the o-ring on the pvhes stem? Finally got the chance use mine! :D
The o-ring is placed on the Solo to grip the stem. Screw the top off and place the o-ring over the heater port. Screw the top back on, keeping the o-ring centered. I hope that helps. The instructions are included when Planetvape sends a PVHES mouthpiece. They usually include an o-ring free of charge.

Brother Stu is once again spot on. It's not linear. While the other steps are 'about ten degrees' apart, Step I is only 112F. There's a much bigger than normal step from there to Step 2 (365F).. Once it gets hotter it can take 'forever' to cool off enough to get back under 112F what with all the insulation and all.

Perfectly normal, vape on and enjoy your new best friend.

After 12 months of regular use (almost every day), mostly with the stock PA, my Solo battery is beginning to crap out. I had started to notice that it wasn't holding a charge very well over the last few weeks. I fully charged it (to 80%) 3 days ago and haven't used it since then. When I turned it on tonight, it had dropped to 2 lights. Thankfully, I have my PA to tide me over until I get a replacement.

I was hoping for a better battery life to be honest, especially since I've mostly been using the PA. I've tried to keep it charged between 20-80% most of the time, though it has been fully charged and fully depleted plenty of times over the past 12 months (camping, trips, concerts etc.). No deep discharges though.

However, I love my Solo so much, I can forgive her this little indiscretion.
