Discontinued The Sublimator

Curious if anyone has yet, and if it was worth the purchase ?

I'm back after having the sublimator for about 2 weeks. I really do think it is worth it: IF you are an everyday smoker. Personally I couldn't justify buying an expensive smoking device if I was a weekend smoker. Unless you make enough money of course, but for most of us, $700 for a smoking tool is totally over the top.

As far as the high goes, personally I don't notice it getting me any higher than a bong hit, but it gets me just about as high as a bong does, which is saying a lot compared to other vaporizers I've owned or tried. Like I said in my initial review though, it could have a lot to do with my tolerance being sky high. I've had a few of my friends try the thing and they were saying they haven't been that high in a long time (after a few hits)

With the Sub I can rip bong at the same speed or even faster than I can with a bong. Unlike a bong, with the Sub I can have a 3 hour long session without coughing up a lung. I have smoke the sub both with water and without, and I prefer with. I find it tastes better without water , but I prefer with some water for those long sessions, even though I feel slightly higher dry. Could be a placebo effect though.

I don't really like how long it takes to heat up but that's part of the design and you can easily leave it on all day (which I do all the time). I have the xlr.2.0 dabmaster and it has a one hour auto shut off, which sounds like it could be annoying but its easily avoided. I just click the thing on and off every 20 mins or so and have never had it shut off on me.

As far as the "sublimate" and avb go. I was surprised how fast the avb gets brown and toasty, just one hit is all it takes. I've had a few dabs of the stuff that drips down, it is pretty potent but nothing special as far as taste and smell go. I already have lots and lots of avb.

To test the sublimator out I ground up a pile of weed and see how many hits in a row I could take, Hit , dump, hit dump, I got to about 15 hits in a row until I was coughing and even then, the cough wasn't anything compared to a bong cough. Out of all those hits I didn't get a half ass milk, all of them ripped hard. This thing can smoke with the best of them and then some. At first I thought the thing was too harsh but I was just loading too big of bowls. I learned how to load pathetically tiny bowls and it still seems to milk. Prob has something to do with lungs being filled with way too much vapour.

one complant I have though is my sublimator logo is already smudging off , after only having it one day. Kind of annoying considering how much it costs, but if it doesn't affect the function no big deal.

In short:

Worth it? Yes

Pros: Efficient, well built, healthy , can collect sublimate, can use indefinitely, versatile, comparable to combustion, canadian made ;) ha ha ...

Cons: Long heat up time, expensive, high energy , hot to touch, can't move it around

Sublimator is a great vape I would recommend it to anyone who wants a quality vaporizer. Its not for everyone, but those who it is for, love this thing (including me !)

If anyone has any extra unanswered questions let me know and I will try to reply and add them into this review.

Thanks for the response @neogitus lol, I already own a sub but my post got moved/merged without the title and I was referring to the Sublimator Extraction Tube :lmao:

Oh I agree @tepictoton I own lots of different tubes and the honeybee line for extractions :) was just curious of this ones user findings :D

I like the Sub due to flavor output and easy maintenance. Flavor depends on the herb quality as well. If you like to use high quality flowers like I do, you'll love this vape because it will conserve if you are that type to do so. It can flash-vape, or vaporize an entire bowl very well but due to lack of temperature readout (unlike the new Sub 2.0 which features led indicators) you eventually have to find your sweet spot on the dial of the timer box which also isn't hard to find if you purchase a watt reader (belkin is the one I use.) I always get flavor from each bowl but when my bong is foggy or resined up I like to clean it out with 91% ISO and hot water wash. Also I clean out the atomizer's downstem to make sure it doesn't get dirty (usually can get dirty if your screens are improperly placed and small ABV particles get through, though not as much if you use two screens for both ledges inside the atomizer bowl.)

Maybe the most prominent feature of the Sub is the ability to reclaim from your usage. After a while, you are able to see an amberish red color oil dripping from the downstem. I routinely scrap this and melt into a glass container for future uses and as emergency reclaim. I know it's funny but hey if you can save it then why not? If you use less material (oils/herb) you will not achieve much reclaim oil (differs with concentrates use) and vice-versa. I agree with Been Vapin, it can give optimal flavor output with very decent clouds (more so with dabbing) but definitely not the best vaporizer on the market. I like it though and used this vape since September of last year. Have seen myself using more herbs than I should though but one can cut down with this vape as well (which was why I switched from the Volcano to the Sub in the first place.)

The Sublimator def tastes way better than a Torch/to nail if your into dabbing. I personally use more material with the Sub cause it is so smooth, fast, and fun to rip. Ripping some dry sift at 34 watts right now.

Hah, and since I just got out of my shower and brushed mah teef, I'll try the dry sift I got too. The thing about the heat up time is if you've got 10-15 minutes to do other things beforehand, then do so and the Sub will reward you in the end with little time to waste. That's been my workaround ever since I got used to the heat up time.

Can someone with experience speak to the Sub's functionality using either the Dab-Master or E-Nail attachment? I no longer have access to buds, only to concentrates. Fortunately I learned about my bud situation before placing my order. Now I need to order one of the two concentrate attachments. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks

Been putting all components into everclear for about a month now after every nights use. Yesterday, I put what hadn't evaporated on a ceramic dish and turned it on the zero setting. There were a few particulates because a time or two, I forgot to put the damn wispr screen back in haha. But everything is looking brand new and after about 3 minutes, there was a pure gold left with some green partics that easily came out.

Not only did I get a good amount from what's in my catcher, but a few grams of gooey stuff that puts people to sleep in 10 minutes. This is the kind of conservation I was looking for. Every bit worth the money.

The apolo can do extracts as well, but definitely not as efficiently as the E-nail. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now, and it's a great upgrade. Can't speak for the dab-master but the e-nail is definitely better and more convenient for extracts.

The dabmaster can do both and is capable of handling oils very well. It is probably more convenient to purchase the DM if you're the type to love doing double deckers (flowers+oils) often. I never had one but hope that someone with one could chime in. I haven't seen much videos on the DM but I bet it is worth it for either flowers or full melt concentrates.

If you already have the Apollo, just put the oil straight into a pen with a short ceramic bowl. Works wonders to go to sleep. A 20 dollar mini cloud pen works perfectly. The only reason I have a pen is for this lol.

I have been eyeing the sub for a while but the kits seem pretty expensive for what they are.... Any reason not to just buy the heater and atomizer then wire up my own controller. Considering the sub controller is over $260 by itself that should save a good chunk of change...

Didn't know you could, but This is smart since about 3-4 of us had our controller boxxes stop working and had to rig up our own ,,, Buy a dimmer switch and a plug in watt meter and you'll make a way better controller box than either version 1 or 2 IMO....

Look back in this thread and you see pictures of mine - http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-sublimator.9708/page-216

A lot of people seem to like their Sub's nice and hot ... anyone else out there that runs them lower at 21-23W? I find the flavor and extraction is perfect for flowers at this temp ... (similar to an EVO at noon)

For me flowers 33 watts perfect golden brown fast extraction........ Concentrates 40 watts.........

I don't do double deckers anymore cause I don't think the wax vaporizes good enough at 33 wats and the weed can combust above that so it don't make sense to me....

I've learn a couple tricks for going from wax to weed or vice versa quickly with the Sub... You can heat up the base of the atomizer with a torch ( only at the bottom part for a few seconds ) to quickly heat up to bho heat level or just pull air though it with the top off to quickly lower the temp for flowers...

Still sooooo stoked I have one of these , sure the Dab master might get the hit in easier, but my OG Sub Apollo does a great job still...!

Sadly my timer box started to make a LOUD buzzing noise a few weeks ago and now the voltage does not always hold. It seems to come back once and a while to the max voltage (46W) but sometimes on the max setting it shows only 28W). This is very frustrating since I bought the limited edition kit about a year ago which was not cheap and now must pay more for it to work as expected. The noise is so loud and annoying I have wrapped the timer box in a towel otherwise I can not tolerate this loud buzzing noise. I bought my Sublimator kit via planetvape if anyone was wondering.

I typically use flowers from 29 to 34 and concentrates from 37-40.

I am thinking of fixing the unit myself as others have done, should I be scared to do this @Detonator? I have seen the posts in this thread so am very close to trying to do this permanent fix myself soonish... Even if my unit is still under warranty, why would I pay to replace it when the low quality dimmer switch is likely to experience the same issue again down the road? I also wanted to mention, I am not gonna pay for the upgrade since this unit was expensive enough already and the upgrade price is outrageous.

Just wanted to update everyone on my Sub's status. Since it had been dropping wattage I have noticed it wasn't effectively vaporizing my herbs and oils efficiently as it once was. From the beginning, I had 50 watts to 52 watts MAX. 48 would be the most current rate at the time. I have dropped dramatically in wattage as of 7/23 and recorded it at 33 watts being the lowest before letting @PlanetVape know and sure enough their response was clear.

I sent my Apollo in for repair & diagnostics to check for any problems/issues. They didn't explain why it had dropped so low but I could understand why due to well over half a year of usage. I have also dealt with the low buzzing noise from the timer which didn't appear to be so noisy to me as my surroundings are usually blocking out the sound. I had to pay to ship and for return shipping. It's reasonable for the amount I paid, my Sublimator will be arriving back home in early next week. I'm glad that PV had taken the time to test and as well as issue me a brand new Apollo (timer box edition). Now I play the waiting game. I just hope I won't have to turn it in again next year. I have one more year left on warranty. Kinda glad all the timer boxes have 2 year warranty as mine started to drop wattage a few months before my first year was up.

Anyone have any ideas for keeping the sub screen in place? I find it really annoying that after every hit, the screen falls out with the weed and I have to put it back in and align it every hit I take. I was using screens that didn't come with the sub, an they seemed to be sticking after awhile but no luck with the actual heavier sub screens. I think there should be a way to hold the screen in place, I don't see the point of it falling out every time, it makes the atomizer get dirty quicker because bits of weed are always falling down and my hands smell like avb. Thanks for any insight, I take 5-10 sub hits per session so you can see how frustrating aligning a screen every time would be.

@neogitus I am afraid the screens falling apart is part of the design.

I put 3 screens: one of U-fine PV stuck+ Reg Sub screen at the bottom moving freely+Iolite heavy mesh screen resting on the upper edge of the atomizer and closing the chamber.

When reg screen is stuck and blind It indicates the need of cleaning the whole atomizer and screens.

It seems that the stock ss grills weren't specced quite right size-wise, it would be great if they were just a bit bigger so they could be wedged in to the atomizer instead of just dropped in loosely. It's too bad because those ss screens (grilles) are awesome otherwise, and the rest of the machining is so high-quality.

It's almost like these screens were an afterthought, my solution is similar to @Vapodudule's above.

Anyone have the mercury kit?..

Yes sir, i began with it and still here in a box with the whole dabmaster xlr 2.0.
For the alu base, i overdrilled the whip attachement to put a larger diameter silicone tube (8mm hole), it expands the airflow.

There is quite a long time i did not torched an UFO though.

For a while there I thought I thought my campfire kit may be the only way I could use my sublimator.
But I was wrong, and I still haven't used it. It's my apocalypse vaporizer ;)
