Ok, I got the double barrel recycler from Kathy. Shipped in a sturdy box, TONS of bubble wrap. Less than 6 days to get here, ordered Sunday night, the 6th. 8" tall, each side of the "hammerhead" perc has 9 slits. Perc is tacked to the glass below it.Comes with a large combustion bowl, smaller "one hit" bowl, surprisingly nice divited glass nail, and round dome.
Initial impression: smaller and heavier than expected. Don't know the glass thickness, but the barrels are THICK. Joints seem well made, will look more closely at them later. No leaks or anything like that. None of the proportions or angles are WAY out of whack, but they're not even either. Upper barrel is longer (wider from the front) than the bottom. Base is not centered, etc. Overall, about what I expected, not really noticeable unless you check, but definitely not perfect.
If the water is above the bottom of the upper barrel, I can get some water droplets hitting my lips. If the level is within the lower barrel - no problem. The mouthpiece looks big, but it's comfortable. Seems to hit smoothly, but honestly, I was expecting more from the reviews I've seen. I will test more later.
Note: my longest DI ("straw" type) nail hits the curved portion of the downstem under the joint, stopping it from seating fully. It will probably still work, just not the best seal. I have other nails though.
