Fair point on the disassembly. I'll give that a cheeky miss.

As for the oil, I expected it to alter the smell a bit but didn't expect it to linger so long. I'm not over keen on the linseed smell and will consider doing a food grade mineral oil next time. For now the wax is doing the job fine, I mainly use it for the mouthpiece though as its a great barrier for where your lips go, stops it getting gacky.

More unedited and unordered thoughts from me....

The linseed oil I used to oil my VM as changed the smell of the VM quite considerably. I'm not going to use it again. I'm gonna look into some different oils but for now I'll just let it be, stuck a bit of purified beeswax on the outside and that may not be the right thing but it has given a very shiny finish.

The blocking of holes with toothpicks is not for me. I tried 1, 2 and three holes blocked, if anything I'd block only one although this seems to make it whistle. I'm happy using it as the manufacturer intended.

This unit is ideal for kif. Absolutely perfect match, had a pan (bowl?) last night and it was stunning.

It's very difficult to use in social situations, I find if I'm not concentrating on heating then I'm taking long draws. When with friends I have to sit out of the conversation for a min or two while i use the unit. Hopefully this will get better with time as I get used to altering the ritual slightly. Also when sharing with friends heating for them is annoying. Luckily most of my smoker friends mix with tobacco and don't really enjoy the high of pure weed (I can understand that, there really is something special about the combination of nicotine and thc, although I'm now a convert) so they generally aren't interested in my vapes beyond "ooo how does it work?".

It's a bit of an annoying shape. I need to find a little tin to store it in two pieces. I love the egg but there's no way your getting it in a jeans pocket.

I've been using a cheapo plastic jet lighter, branded 'dragon', and its been fine. It was £3 (i got two) and haven't had any troubles yet, touch wood.

Has anyone taken there's apart? how does the heating element and the three tubes come out? Was thinking of taking it apart to really get a good sand on the inside, not essential but I like to tinker and this vape feels as though its a good un for fiddling.

Peace!
I would you suggest you get Eds butter for your vapman. I use it on my log vapes and my vapman. He even has a honey scented butter. I highly recommend that butter.

Cheers mate I'm gonna look into that. Havent had a look around eds site yet, I may get myself a hammer stem while I'm at it. Honey flavour sounds amazing. I'm keen.

I've used @Ed's TnT butter recently too, as my Vapman was starting to look a little parched. It really does bring out the grain beautifully, and I totally agree - it has the most heavenly scent. I have a basic version - and I haven't waxed the area I heat up, just the rest - so that I don't get the flavour of the butter when vaping. :2c: :peace:

I looked on Ed's webpage. i did not see anything for the Vapman. does he make them specifically for the Vapman?
I am sure he can...I think he has made one for the vapman before. All he needs is the dimensions. He does not have the hammer stems on the site either.

I haven't taken mine apart - but a screwdriver has just been added to the Vapman store :)

https://shop.vapman.com/product_info.php?products_id=65

I strongly suspect it's for use on the screws that hold the SS plate (which they sell as a service part), not to secure the oven or mica shields (which they do not sell as service parts).

I still advise not messing with the 3 screws that hold the clamps. I see nothing to gain, and some considerable risk to the little guy. Even with the official screwdriver.

Then again, it's yours.....

Got my vapman in and I love it. for 30 bucks shipped I dont think it can be beat. First bowl in and it was vaped perfectly dark dark brown. Unfortunately my torch gave out half way through the second bowl so now Ive got to go out and find another torch lighter here in town!

EDIT: Is it normal for the vapor to just start coming out of the top pieces holes when its ready? I do vape directly under a super bright light so I can adjust my airflow accordingly but it seems even as Im heating it vapor starts coming out of the holes

I suspect you might be right @OF Still, a useful tool if you don't have one.

Now I'm usually someone who takes care of everything I own.... But for some reason the vapman brings out the devil in me . I'm not REALLY careless with it, however I feel I'm really pushing it to it's limits.

I've lost count of the combustions. This has tailed off a bit as I'm constantly refining my technique. I find if I concentrate I've got my technique almost perfect, it's when I'm talking with friends or trying to cook that I have to suddenly empty the pan.

I've flaked the gold. I was doing a dry burn off (bad idea) and a tiny bit of bud got stuck to the element (on the inside) and took a bit of the gold off.

Also the dry burn off set fire to the oil above the screen (A LOT of smoke). However, This really hasn't effected the taste in a negative way, actually the smoke smelt amazing.

Oh, and a little burn spot where it shouldn't.

This vape feels very different to almost any vape I've used. I love it. If I'm still in love with it when my birthday rolls around in a couple of months I might treat myself to the Classic.

Enjoy it, I know I am. wake and vape on an easy saturday morning. :peace:

Not sure how to insert a quote in my old post (sorry mods for b2b) but the wood stems on the VM site are very reasonably priced.

It seems there are some very exciting developments in the Vapman camp! I just clocked this on the Vapman FB page:

COMING VERY SOON: Special screens made of stainless steel for the use of oils, wax, resins and liquids with Vapman. This will make Vapman the most versatile of the portable vaporizers.

One thing for sure...if he is coming out with it, you know he has put some serious thought and design into it...I cannot wait.

If they work well with normal hash I will cry tears of joy. I literally though about this this morning. I'm very excited.

I think we can put our confidence in the engineering skills of this company. Fingers bloody crossed.

Me too!! I've tried hash in mine a few times already. I used some Nepalese black to test it out initially and that worked out really well - the hash just seemed to dry out and become more crumbly. I also used it successfully with a few different non-descript pollens. But with Kashmiri black it was a completely different story! The hash went really gooey and made a terrible mess of the pan - it took a lot of time and effort cleaning it up after that - I've only used herbs and kief since! I really can't wait to see what these new screens can do! MUCHO EXCITED!!

Greetings to all my Vapman-loving friends! I wish you're all doing great.

Here's some info in case someone wants to tinker (like Dave Smith was commenting).

I took my two Vapman apart, sanded them and oiled them with Extra Virgin Olive Oil with no problems. But I take apart iPhones every now and then, so I'm used to Working with tiny screws and parts.

Here are some tips for the brave:

• Use the correct sized screw driver (not too big, not too small) - if you you don't want to mess up these tiny screws.

• Put the screws in the bottom part of your egg case while you work for safe keeping.

• you can easily remove all the hardware from the stem – even the two locking metal rods. Be careful not to scratch them. Use a rag on your pliers or better yet a jewel maker's teflon/plastic covered flat needle nose pliers. (You may never need to remove these though.

• You won't be able to separate the golden bowl from the air pipes attached to it because they're flanged in by pressure – so don't try it! (watch the Vapman making video).

• What I did to have access to sand the inside of the wooden bowl was I removed the three screws from the air pipes and left the bowl hanging loosely while I sanded the whole wooden body inside and out. (I removed the hardware from the top of the wooden base as well – but that's easy).

• The three pipes have a smaller diameter at the tips that fits perfectly into the aluminum blocks that hold it at the base. This makes it fit perfectly and automatically sets it to the correct position (especially the correct hight so the mouth piece fits and locks correctly against the bowl).

• DO NOT over-tighten any screws when you reassemble. This is a precision-made machine!

If you're a tinkerer like me, you can do this easily, but I do not recommend it to someone who's not handy or has never worked with tiny screws.

I didn't want to use linseed oil on mine because I charred it and oiled all the wood so I didn't want to vape any of that oil. Olive oil is edible so it should not be too bad for you if vaped.

It did smoke a bit the first 2 or 3 times after the oiling, but now I just oil it around the outside of the base and mouthpiece every month or so and my two Vapman still look like new.

My charred and oiled Valman both look so good that I'venever had a need for a desire to get a Mica.

...

BTW, I unplugged all three holes and decided it works fine this way. I could tell the condition of the herb in the bowl much better from the taste at the tip of my tongue with holes plugged, but it runs much cooler now.

I have another plugged mouth piece so I should test with it to compare again... But like I've said before, I know the inventor of the Vapman is much smarter than me, so there's no need to mess with these holes. Just trust the inventor and the design.

Hope this helps and of course, do this at your own risk.

I just received my MICA version off ebay. It was already used but Im curious about something. The gold plating is fully intact but it is kind of bubbled off whatever metal it was fused to. Kind of like a bad paint job if that makes any sense. Is this normal to happen? Should I not use it?

Seren

Away with the fairies
I have the basic/pure model and haven't personally had that problem. However, if the pan is severely overheated the gold plating can flake off - it sound like yours is in the process of this happening. The Vapman site states if this happens the unit will remain functional:
