Swizzy.......if you're looking for stealth hit the box without the stem, it is not needed. As magic Flight calls it hitting the box "native". Thats how I always hit mine.....I only use the stem for friends when sharing. And like Lo mentioned I cut my stem down to about an inch & a half.....I used a sharp chefs knife.

If you flip your top two pieces of the grinder upside Down and put the herb in that way, you can get a much finer grind. The finer the better for this thing as recen experience and research has shown me.

Launch Box owner since Nov 2009 - An Update on the experience

Overall:
This is such a great unit. With it's small size and being battery powered it is portable, windproof and silent. I love it! To sit out on the deck and watch nature while holding the LB in cupped hands pressing the battery in for contact by the palm of one hand takes on a wonderfully satisfying contemplative experience, one that is exceptionally discreet. I like it's extremely effective design, in today's world of injection molded plastics and electronic circuits the LB is refreshingly simple and reassuring like something made many years ago.

Herb
I have used a few different types, some more compact, some drier, some stickier, some grinds finer and others grind more springy. Out of respect to the screen I definitely wouldn't use any kief/honey/residue as altho it will have lovely potential potency it seems better not to take the risk with gumming up the screen. Grinding the herb fine is best, and as others have found if it is 'springy' herb then after taking several hits it can be useful to tip it out onto some paper and grind it to a powder between one's fingers and tip it back into the trench.

Batteries
The ones that come with the launch work fine, altho I later purchased 4 of the Maha powerex 2700 and the Maha charger. These batteries hold a little bit more charge and therefore last a little longer. But one important point that I have found is that sometimes upon recharging the batteries the capacity has dropped a lot, the Maha charger shows after charging what the charged capacity is and sometimes I have seen it as low 550! The point here is that without a charger that shows what the holding charge is after charging one may think something is wrong with the LB when the problem could actually be the battery level is too low for decent vaping. I regularly put the batteries thru a refresh cycle to bring the charge high again (charge/discharge/charge with lots of breaks) this takes something like 30 odd hours for the charger to complete after which my batteries are all sitting high around 2500+ again. The Maha charger instructions suggest the refresh cycle be done every 10 or so charges, but I am finding that after 4 or 5 charges that some of the batteries have decreased so much in their holding charge that I have to run the refresh cycle more frequently. At first I thought perhaps 2 of my 4 Maha batteries were not up to scratch (as their levels had dropped so low) but then after following their capacity thru charges and a couple or refresh cycles I found it wasn't any particular battery that was failing to recharge high again it but in fact it the failure to recharge high was happening to all batteries some of the time, so my feeling now is that when I use a battery in the LB to the point that it gets 'fairly' hot (not too hot to touch but hot to the touch) then I have found that battery will not charge to peak on the next charge cycle and the following charge cycle it will charge even less until after 4 or 5 times it charges to below 1000 mha. So my learning from this is that it is probably better to not over use one battery, perhaps better to share 2 batteries for a trench or at least refrain from letting them heat up too much (with a full trench I will usually take 12 - 15 hits). I think I read of one poster who uses 4 batteries for a trench to ensure they are not over used. Anyway I mention this for those people whose charger is the one with the kit or one that doesnt show the capacity after charging as for them they could fail to realise that if the LB is not producing enough heat it could very likely be from batteries that altho they are freshly charged are simply not holding a high enuf charge.

technique
I didnt appreciate this when I got my LB, but over time one develops a technique for fully vaped hits. Slow taking the hit is best, long and slow, over time from experience you will naturally realise just the right inhalation technique for success! The first couple of times I used the LB I got a little combustion, the ABV had green and black in it, but like so many other posters have mentioned after than it hasnt happened again, and further more the ABV is uniformly vaped, no green and black.

Customer Service
I have found Blissville to offer excellent customer service. I would very happily order from them again and recomend them to others (I know I will be ordering from them again!)

the screen
I feel best not to use kief/hash/honey etc, better to use only ground herb. I also feel trying to scrape residue out from under the screen as some posters have mentioned is risking trouble with what is probably quite a delicate part of the LB and presumably not recommended by Magic Flight.

trouble shooting

ground herb is best, if 'lumpy/springy' then powdering it with fingers after a few hits helps

if vaping is difficult my first guess at the problem would be the battery capacity is low however if it has just been charged then it may well need to go thru a refresh cycle to bring it's level up to the makers maximum again. If the battery is OK then I would suggest depressing the battery for a few seconds before inhaling very slow fine and deep. Otherwise email Magic Flight, I am very very impressed with their help and expertise and customer service.

One other thing, I have read how many go 'native' or use the short tube, but I have used and like the long tube that came with the kit since I got it. It's personal preference of course but I mention it as a while back there was talk of discontinuing it from the kit as the impression was people were not using it, but hey I am!

Happy vaping all

Longburn, thanks for the great review. You really covered all the aspects very well.

I agree with the comments on the short tube. I really like seeing the vapor coming down the long tube. It helps me "know" the box is working properly and the hits are cooler.

For those who are interested in cooling down their hits, BlissSville carries a small whip for the LB. It has a short stem (or plug in) at each end; one to "plug" into the box and one for a mouthpiece. It runs $5.00. You sacrifice taste for the cooling, but it's a neat little accessory (for those of you as obsessed as I am with accessorizing my vaping experience!) and fits into the tin with the rest of the "goodies" that come with the LB.

No offense meant here, but you are mis interpreting the readings. Unless you do a refresh-analyze cycle you are only seeing the charge that was put into the battery to top it up. In other words your batteries hold 2500 mAh but you are already charging them when they have only dropped to about 1900 mAh showing you that only 550 mAh got put into the battery not that 550 mAh is the batteries capacity.

Question regarding vaporizing hash in the LB:
I know that MF advises against it, but is the only danger having it melt on your screen? If the hash I use doesn't melt at all (even when heated with a flame for a good 10 seconds), is there a risk of using that in the LB?
Has anyone tried it?

Just got my LB yesterday and I am thoroughly enjoying the experience so far!

I'm still a little confused when the bowl is "cashed" though. Some have said when the herb is brown, some say golden brown, some say when you taste popcorn, so I don't know really.

It just seems like I'm getting too many hits from this thing. I know one guy in here said he gets about 4-5 hits from his. Well last night I was getting double that. I was getting anywhere from 8-10 hits from this thing. After the first five hits I could start to mildly taste that popcorn smell but, I could still pull FAT hits from it. The latter hits seemed to get me higher as well so I don't know.

Note: I checked the bowl and there were no black spots so I don't think I was combusting. I couldn't taste any smoke from what I could tell. The overall color of the bowl was a medium to dark brown.

Each hit I was taking in, I drew in for about 10-15 seconds (very slowly).

So I guess my question is, on average how many hits does it take for a bowl to be fully vaped? I'm really afraid of combustion but, I want to make sure I'm not tossing out half vaped herb.

Thanks!:D

I'm going to guess about 10 on average for me, and I only fill my trenches about 2/3s full. I think you're doing things right and other ppl just arent getting everything out that they can. As I've said before, even after i get my almost dozen LB hits, i can still re-vape the same stuff at a higher temp in my SSV and get a few more decent sized hits (decent sized for SSV hits, huge for LB) out of it. This really leads me to think that a lot of LB users arent getting all they can out of theres, especially if they're only taking half the number of hits as me and considering it ABV afterwards.

In the end though, as long as you get where you want to be w/o any combustion, it's mission accomplished :D

I wouldnt worry about combustion too much. In the past 2 months i havent really combusted. I saw a couple tiny pieces of black when i got my new unit and some bits stuck to the screen for the duration of a few hits, but that wasnt major and didnt give off any powerful taste or smell like combusting in other vapes can.

My experience with BlissSville and Vapeworld have both been great for the LB and accessories. I would think you could definitely expect to get it by Friday from either vendor. Enjoy! :)

So when we opened up my buddies MFB package there were two black plastic/rubber nipples/stoppers what are these used for because we haven't found anything they go to yet :uhoh:

Yeah i just received mine yesterday and was also wondering what they are for.

Also, a couple of noobie questions if anyone can answer it would be appreciated.

My batteries have been on charge for about 12 hours, and the lights have not gone out on the charger (GP Powerbank charger). Is this normal, should the lights go out, does first time charge take longer than the others??

On average, with a full trench, how many times can you vape?

On average, how many times can you vape before needing to replace and charge the battery?

I opened up my tin and had a look. Yup, 2 rubbery plastic caps. They fits just perfect on AA batteries. I'm assuming it's for when you're carrying the batteries around in a pocket so that they do not discharge. Never an issue for me since I carry a 4 pack of battreies in a holder with me.

I happen to have the user manual of the GP PowerBank S350 charger, it says: "The red LED indications will remain on during charging. Only when the charger is unplugged or the batteries are removed, te indicators will switch off."
I don't know if the first charge should be longer, wondering about that myself.

As for full trenches, I think you can get at least 10 good hits from a full trench, probably more. Every person has his own preference of when to consider the bowl cashed. I like to go as long as I feel I'm getting vapor and not just warm air, and I end up with a dark brown, sometimes 'army brown' with some dark green spots. I think I get around 10 hits from a half full trench of finely ground herb.
There's still some goodness left in the herb though, I smoke it in a bong afterwards and get a decent buzz from it. But you can also cook with it, as others here have done.

I don't know yet about the batteries life, my old ones lost capacity gradually so it got shorter and shorter, but I just bought 4 "GP 2700" batteries the other day, and I'm still getting good hits off of one battery after 15 hits, probably more.

So I figured I'll try the hash in the faulty unit that I initially got, so if something does happen, I'll still have my good unit. When I used weed on the faulty unit I got a weak high, but with the hash I was actually getting pretty high (as much as possible with that hash), and the taste was nice. After I saw it works and it's safe, put some hash in my good unit and I'm flying now :D

A little thing I noticed is that it is much easier to completely and evenly vape a bowl in my LB is to pack a little less then what I thought I needed. What I do is usually just put in half to 3/4s trench. I find I get better hits and the bowl is cooked way more evenly. The overall experience is better.

I love my unit so far. Its simply amazing. There will be a day when everyone has one of these.

The LB is my first vape. I've had it about a week. This is something of a review, although not as useful as comparisons from owners of multiple vapes.

I was immediately impressed with the efficiency and the small size. I followed the instructions closely and it worked pretty well for me the first time.

I have had some problems with either getting some black or leaving some green. The key for me has been a consistent grind (which is easiest if I go almost to a powder) and a vigorous shake between hits.

The instructions said you may need one battery per person per session. I have found that to be conservative by a factor of 3 at least.

And now some observations that I suspect apply to vaping in general: somewhat less urge to cough, less smell, and perhaps a more "up" high, though I'm not really sure. What I mean is that it seems like there is less of an effect that can positively be called relaxed/mellow, or negatively be called couch lock. What remains are effects like general happiness and what I might call light hallucinogenic effects, although I don't actually hallucinate -- hopefully that makes some sense. Given how powerful placebo effects are, it's really hard to say if there's any difference, actually.

I would recommend the LB to anyone looking for something portable, though you should really listen to people with comparable vapes. As a beginner, all I can say is that if you follow the directions, the learning curve is not steep.
