The Lotus Vaporizer

PALE BLUE DOT
Okay you guys have convinced me to upgrade my torch. The standard honest is okay, the flame is a bit inconsistent and stutters/goes out no matter how much I "bleed" it. I ordered a couple of the real cheapies from china that @OF recommends a month or two ago, who knows if they'll ever show up.

So I've had these in my fleebay cart for a while:

"Joban welding torch"
and

"Zico regal t-38"

They're both the same price, and I'm pretty sure this zico has been highly-recommended here as well.
It does seem like it would be more ergonomic, so I'm leaning toward it. Besides tank size, what other differences might there be between these models? Now I want them both dammit.
I have 2 of the T - 38's.
They have to be refilled a lot.
The cheap $10 including shipping works better. The Top one you posted would be a better choice! IMO

Small tip for users just starting out with the Lotus: I have found, unlike many other vaporizers, the stickier the bud = the better the vapor is. It's probably because I use a pretty high setting on my torch, and I'm getting way thicker, tastier clouds with sticky top shelf bud versus dried-out bud.

So I travelled with my lotus for the first time last weekend, and it got it's first few (really really tiny, minor) chips in the paint, despite my having wrapped the cap for transport -- I guess it was not going to stay perfect forever no matter what. I know people recommended the natural for this reason, but I could not resist the turquoise. I'm wondering @Max Jitter if you guys have ever considered selling small paint samples for people to touch up their caps.

So, friend of mine has been making me want a lotus as well as baby's first piece of glass. However, I'd also like to get one more expensive lighter rather than repeatedly getting cheaper lighters. Anyone here have any experience with the Zippo BLU2?

Welcome! The Lotus is a great choice! I think it should belong in every Vaporist's arsenal.

The Zippo Blu2 is a straight torch, most of us prefer to use a 45 degree or 90 degree angled torch with the Lotus (though a few users on here prefer straight torches). I think you'd have problems with that Zippo and the Lotus because of the open cover is longer than the torch itself (can't get the torch close enough to the hotplate)

There's a whole thread dedicated to Torches somewhere on this site. My personal favorite is a Zicco T-38 - sexy looking, while still holding a reasonable amount of butane and works perfectly 100% of the time. My only complaint is the lack of a thumb wheel to change the flame length (you need a flathead screwdriver to adjust)

There's also a cheap glass bubblers thread in the glass section of the site which I suggest you check out. We're buying pieces for under $50 from reputable chinese vendors, and my LHS is charging $150+ for the same pieces!

I've been more interested in straight torches, figure I can hold them kinda like a pencil, and they just blend in better. I noticed colibri also had a bunch of straight jet lighters, those look pretty nice. I'm currently looking at Lotus Glass, they have some nice looking designs and I don't mind the higher price

Those are very pretty, no doubt. They appear, however, to be meant for combusting. Their site has lots of vaping glass tho, so you can get either from them. Look for items that have a ground glass joint.

If you don't mind the prices, check out aqualabtechnologies.com or highpriorityglass.com

Goddamn, it's like being a kid in a candy store.

Guess I didn't notice that at first. They're made to order, so maybe it's possible I can get one that'll fit the Lotus, I'll have to ask

I don't know however can you even handle a LOTUS?
z9anSc2.jpg

I barely can!
@Pipes
I wanted to show you the angle of the lighter that works for me.
That was actually the other lighter I was looking for after reading through this thread.
The reasons I decided on the Joban was the single flame had a pointier flame in the pictures. The picture of the double flame did not look as fine pointed and turning off the second flame showed it still had some leakage. So I figured switching between 1 and 2 flame would also call for addition adjustments and just complicates things. Not to mention pinching off one of the gas flows adds to possible failures. :2c:
I like things simple and if the option to over do it is there...well that would end up being the case with me...over cooked plate?
But I'm new to this unit so it's trial and error for me but with help from our FC members, it sure lessens to bad purchases. And saving $$$ for sure.
BTW, did I mention I received my Lotus today? Holly fuck, love it. Have not gotten the glass stuff yet but making do....
I had been happily using my Genie Classic lately and find that this puppy blows it away. Easier to control, tastes great, HUGE hits, AVB comes out very even colour and no scorching. At least I haven't yet.
The lighter that came with it works fine too.

My wife told me the Lotus is her favourite vape now! but she don't vape!

My nickel plate is a bit discolored..., how to know it's time to change?

Do you think high t° (for concentrate vaping) are compatible with the Lotus? (I'm afraid to overheat my plate and kill it)

My only issue is stirring, every time half of the bowl if falling down!

I had exactly the same problem with stirring until I discovered a little trick I'll share with you ;)

Stick your thumb over the bowl after sticking the stir stick in and stir it at an angle while your thumbs still covering the bowl.

Works a treat

Don't change your nickle plate until you crack it - don't worry about the color - it will get discolored with use. Try to keep fingerprints off the nickle and it'll look nice for longer.

Concentrate vaping is possible, but given my experience, I'd be careful to not take LONG huge rips at high temps. Personally, I have an alternative desktop vape for concentrates which I'd much rather use for those lung-buster rips I like to show my combusting friends what a vaporizer is capable of

I had the same problem as you with losing some ABV while stirring. Here's the trick - USE LESS HERB! You'll find with less herb, you can usually kill the whole load in two draws, with only a gentle stir between.

I wonder what is the current state of the High Heat Lotus version that was in the works? @Max Jitter ? Any news? Will there be a kit to retrofit an existing Lotus?

Edit: I am still enjoying my Lotus so much... Firefly is nice when I need to be silent or just hug my girl and vape at the same time but Lotus gives so much nicer and controlled hits in such an elegant way that is still my No1 vape all around... For herbs and oils! ;)

I'm guessing it's still undergoing testing, and given that I was told the next version may be assembled using traditional wordworking tools, I'm inclined to think there will not be a retrofit kit for existing caps. You'll probably need to buy a new cap

(Maybe this means we can get custom Nano caps with exotic wood like Afzelia burl.... :mmmm: )

I agree that is a combustion bowl, however I believe you may be thinking too close minded. That's the great thing about the Lotus, slap on an inch of silicone tubing over the wpa and it has the ability to turn awesome Sherlocks into amazing bowls/stems for your Lotus.

You've mentioned this several times, mind showing a picture of your silicon adapters? How do you attach the silicon tubing onto the Sherlock bowl? Over and around the whole bowl, or inside and down the downstem?

I was wondering when they changed the design of the heating plate?
I noticed mine has no indented lines leading to the center.

Here a shot of the virgin from fresh out of the box.

That happened a month or so ago - there was a big issue where a few of us discovered cracks in our plates. MT worked their asses off and redesigned the plate, put it through it's paces to ensure it survived, and then shipped replacement plates.

I give @Max Jitter a lot of credit for their prompt response to a mini crisis! Unlike some other manufacturers on this site who are slow to respond, I've found MT's customer service exceptional.

Team NO SLEEP!
It really was unbelievable. He responded to me and everyone else with replacement plates immediately after the reports came in, then redesigned the plate and the newest version is now shipping:)

Pretty damn fine customer support if you ask me!

Sorry because I'm catching up on this thread and might answer my own question soon, but I see a lot of talk about lighters/torches and I'm worried getting stuck with a bic and this might not be the best solution. like i'm not sure this would be the non-electronic vape for me if i couldn't get away using a plain' ol lighter.
