How do I measure my bong correctly for Vaporizer adaptor

I'm trying to figure what size adapter I need. I've measured the downstem straight across and got 14mm. I've also measured the hole in my bong where you insert the downstem, and got 20mm from measuring it across. Which measurement do I use? 14mm and 18mm are the options available for the adapter.

Welcome!

Not quite sure where you are measuring on the downstem - it's a tapered plug and you don't clarify where you measure 14mm.

Take your measurement at the widest part of the ground glass joint - that is the measurement (roughly) of your opening. 18, 18.8, and 19 all mean the same thing.

If the widest part of the tapered male end is around 14mm, there you go.

All measurements are based on the widest part of the male joint. The female end needs to be a smidge bigger obviously, and it depends on where you measure, and the type of female connection - some have a recessed opening, if that's the case, you might measure up to 21 or 22mm

It's tough to tell what kind of setup you have - is it a standard straight tube with a downstem which has a female joint on it? Maybe you have an 18mm downstem and the female end of the downstem is a 14mm?

Thanks for the reply! I have a standard straight tube bong. I'm not really sure what female/male joints are but I found a picture on google to illustrate where I made the measurements.
I basically measured straight across from the beginning of the opening to the end and not the frosted circular part of the downstem. 14mm was the measurement. Is this the correct way to measure?

Yes, that is a 14mm opening if that's what you measured at the opening. It's actually probably slightly over 14mm

Male and female connections are just like they sound in animals - don't make me go into the birds and the bees over here!

The "opening" you're measuring is a female connection.

The one on the bottom looks to be a 18mm male downstem with a 18mm female connection, the upper one would be 14mm male DS W14mm female connection
