Discontinued Pax Vaporizer by Ploom

So daily Pax users I vape pretty much vape every day with the Solo and I've noticed a weird feeling in my chest lately.. So I've decided to take a break at least until July 4th..

My question is, have you guys had any similar feelings in your chest with the Pax? Or more broadly health wise, how has vaping everyday with the Pax affected you?

I'll more than likely get the Pax soon. Just curious if it is a good purchase when it comes to health because that's pretty much why I vape instead of smoke.

Thanks guys.

Well in my case I smoke a pack of newports a day so I can't tell much of a difference but I defiantly don't have chest pains. It's a great product I'd totally recommend that u purchase a pax u won't regret it. I've never used a solo just because it's too large for my liking I'm sure it works great but the pax is so stealth and easy to use u can't go wrong. I've heard ppl compare the quality of vapor to a volcano. I've only used one a couple times so I can't say but that's my two cents for u good luck in ur decision

Helath wise i don t know... there is alot of plastic in the pax also in the solo... so it questionable... ok i know now i will get bashed now... and maybe you can compare pax and volcano in the cloud department... but tastewise the pax or better my pax is miles away... also the volcano is alot more efficient tjen the pax... i am using my pax only if i am on the go and not at home... but the pax is fucking easy to use no learning curve and produces bi
G clouds... if you looking for a real secure vaporizer healthwise i would recommend you the cera... the drawback from the cera is the learning curve ... in my opinion a good vaporizer have to use no plastic... but ok ploom designed the pax but it is made in china... ploom is making marketing.... don t know how good there quality control is....

The Solo has been and still is considered one of the best tasting portable vapes. Using the stock stem, you have a glass pathway. You are correct, the pax uses stainless steel and plastic mouthpiece so taste is not the best feature about the pax.

The solo has a restricted draw that might account for the weird feeling in the chest. honestly, the pax is similar in that regard, so I would expect the draw to be similar and possibly create the same sensation.

I am a runner and literally use the pax right before running... 6 miles. I did not combust immediately before a run so that should tell you something in terms of health.

Quality wise, pax is solid. Despite Chinese manufacturing, quality control seems good at this point.

In terms of Iso taste after cleaning...never had this problem when I wait an hour or so to use after cleaning. use 91% for faster evaporation and don't use more than needed. wait an hour and should have NO problems.

As far as using ABV, you guys are lightweights, lol. At first I had success using the amounts you guys are talking...16 g. now, it takes about 4oz to make 12-18. I found these are great for experienced users. my friends love them.

yea...I'm more worried about if I inhaling the ISO...wondering if other people experience what i described above. I don't know why or what this semi sweet taste/smell is. Maybe its just a clean pax after being cleaned? As I describe above, I let it dry and heat up for a long time to remove any remaining ISO...I can't believe there is still ISO left but I can't rule it out...

You are being over-cautious in my opinion. ISO evaporates rapidly, even 70%. Anything left behind won't go away with time. One heat cycle is more than enough. More cycles won't make it any better.

Having said that, the taste you describe does sound like ISO. I just don't think all the extra time and heating is making any difference. I also don't believe there is any significant danger in the amount you taste in that first hit but if you are still worried, try blowing through the Pax a couple of times before inhaling through it. My reasoning is that any taste has to be from trapped evaporated ISO, and this method clears it out. That's what I do with everything I clean with ISO and it seems to work for me.

Way to spin my words wizsteve.
Now I'll sit back and wait for you to ramble off your résumé ,
all the girls you've had, and the model Porsche you drive

Oh wait, no I won't.
I just wanted to she'd light on the weak mouthpiece concept .
I bought from a head shop, it's a real one with a serial number.
Sure enough , I had problem with the mouthpiece.
Consumers should go to their heads shops, if close by, and check the pax out
For themselves. See how it works , then decide.
Haven't smoked brown weed since early 80's.

Done here.....

Damn, son; you mad. Anyways, the ONLY good point about this post has been highlighted and altered to be a suitable English language sentence. Handling 5+ different units in the store made me solidify my choice to get the Pax over other things.

In another thread someone said that turning the pax on to burn off any remaining ISO residue would compound the ISO...what does compound it mean? I think that means make it worst right?

Anyways, I'm cleaning pax now I went and got 99% instead of 70%...I am also going to just take a Q tip dipped in water and rub it everywhere where ISO touched just to make sure the ISO is gone.

Ultimately, I think I am tripping. Everyone else cleans less thoroughly than me, perhaps I'm cleaning to much. Maybe this taste is just the taste of the pax when clean...I wish I could explain it. It's sweet but not harsh like taking a whiff of ISO when I open the bottle...

Just wondering, is there any way to clean pax without ISO? Cleaning the pax 2-3 times a week means that I inhale ISO fumes from the bottle 2-3 times a week...that can't be good either.

There is no compounding. Alcohol evaporates rapidly and leaves nothing of itself behind. If you start a heating cycle, then there won't be any liquid ISO left after literally a few seconds. Anything that remains was added to the ISO. If you're using 99% then there's little that could be left, and it would be almost all water.

The taste is not a clean Pax. I have a Pax here that I have never used and the taste when I pull on it is perfectly neutral. Did you try blowing through it before inhaling?

Don't mention u bought from either one just see if the fix it. I've heard of ppl doing that and getting their pax replaced

I use an organic cleaner and it works great it's called Nu Vape u should give it a try if u don't want to use ISO anymore @Jman5280

Hmmmmm well that's good to know. I certainly heat up, several times, blow out, heat up, blow out, rinse mouthpiece and screen with water, let dry, heat up, blow out, wait a few hours....I do WAY more than what I think even needs to be done.

I just hit my pax after drying for a few hours...before I load it, and I just inhale nothing without PAX on or loaded, it is perfectly neutral, no taste. But once I turn on and load up, the first 2-4 hits have a sweetness to them that only happens on the first few hits....is this the buds and fresh pax?

I am clueless, I am doing everything...

Wait a minute, that sounds more like the flavour from the buds. Every load should have a nice fresh flavour for the first 3-4 hits. It might be described as sweet, depending on the strain. Is this what we're talking about?

You should try another strain, or if you can't, try this. Stop right after that sweet taste disappears. Dump that load, put it aside, and then load it back up right after the next cleaning. Do the first couple of hits have the sweet taste or not?

Well it might be, all my buds are fantastic lol...but my issue is that I only get the sweet taste on the first few hits right after the cleaning...it's not like I get the taste with every new pack.

I have came to the conclusion it's either left over ISO or the buds...but why would it only be on the first few hits after it's cleaned?

Are you using lube after cleaning? the lube may be the cause

I am using lube after cleaning. I have the Pax lube from Ploom...

okies thats where the sweetness is coming from you might be getting some in the stem .

there lube is pg used in e cig juice and would taste sweet if vaped

i avoid that stuff since it drys up and turns sticky (i use food grade lube for coffee makers work so much better)

sorry the pax produces big clouds but the taste is really bad... in my opinion ... also normally if i hold the vapor in my loungs from my volcano for a longer time there is no visible vapor but thats not happening with the pax there is vapor... also i am becoming head ache (last second times) ... i am also a bit curiouse couse on the ploom page they state they tested the vapor and know of what it is composed but don t want to make it public... it is to much plastic in this device look at the fu.... oven door it made out of plastic and it is getting really hot sometimes and yeah thats your airpath, hmmm tasty.... and yes it a special plastic maybe which is made for high temperatures but not for vaping maybe for the car industrie... and it s possible in my opinion that there are toxics which aren t studied now releasing.... yeah i know you paid a fucking big sum of money and maybe thats why you are defending it and there is no real perfect portable vape.... thats my opinion maybe my pax is defect i can t tell you and yours is good... but tastewise the pax (mine) is one of the worst vaporizers i know... you can t even say which herb you loaded in it always tastes the same...

Last night I used my Pax for the first time in a while. It was a nice experience but I was shocked to find that the mouthpiece got gunked up after just one session. That normally doesn't happen when I use it so I guess my bud must have been extra sticky.

This morning I gave it a 3 min cleaning and it is back to normal. After using my nano and solo almost exclusively for the past couple months it was a nice change for the night and I think I'll keep using it while I'm on vacation. I once put my Pax on the classifieds thinking I was dome with it but after a few more enjoyable sessions I am convinced this thing has a place in my collection for a while.

Well I'm confused because I thought the ploom lube is food grade? I guess this could be the sweetness and explains why it disappears after the first few hits after cleaning only.

After I clean it next I will wait to out lube in before I take the first hits...

But isn't the pax lube food grade?

What does that mean? Are you using moist or improperly cured herb? The pax requires fully dried, finely ground herb to function properly.
I could be wrong, but I think sticky icky May have meant he was putting earl or some form of BHO in there. Just a guess ...

@Wizsteve Let me get this straight...

The pax lube is water soluble and why is it giving me the sweet taste? Are you saying because some of it gets heated up once pax is cleaned? Is this bad to inhale?

You use non water soluble? Why? What's the benefit? Wouldn't it still heat up?

I am eager to clean pax when I get home and hit it without lube, hopefully I won't get the taste and I can rule out ISO. I will say this makes sense because I only get the sweet taste after I clean pax on the first few hits. I don't get it at the start of every pack, so I can rule out bud. Based on everyone's responses to me, I am sure it is not ISO. I over clean the hell out of pax, heat it up numerous times, wipe down with water, heat up again, and let sit for hours...it can't be possible that the taste is ISO or other users would know.

Another question, does pax really need lube? I used to go weeks without cleaning mine and I'm guessing it has been dry before. After I clean pax, before I apply lube, I run it hot a few times to burn off ISO. When I do this, I put the mouthpiece back in without lube. I can't tell the difference between lube and no line, so why use it?

From my experience thus far...if I don't put a little lube, I get the issue where, when I move the PAX while its active, the mouthpiece disengages and the temp light comes on. A little tap to the mouthpiece reengages and the green light comes back on.

Seems like the lube helps keep the mouthpiece from sticking as well.

I don't notice any difference between not having the lube and having it...taste wise.

The only factor for taste, for me, is the strain of my meds...

Yea I understand.

I think your missing what part of the taste we are talking about.

After I clean I thought I was getting a slight ISO taste...BUT there is no way after hearing from people, I am surely over-cleaning and being over-cautious.

The taste we are talking about is right after I clean pax, the first 2-5 hits have a sweet taste. What @Wizsteve was saying is perhaps it is the lube getting hot which would explain why I only get the taste on the first few hits, but ONLY on the first pack after cleaning....I don't get the taste with every pack, I know what buds taste like.
